I know it's high, but you/yall dont think it will be worth it? Especially in the intimate HOB venue. I can't imagine general admission though..Im too old for that shit anymore.

This one is going to be historic imo though.

It might be worth it to some but seriously I think some won't waste their money not because of who it is but they need to save their money and considering dude's output they probably won't bother unless they're convinced word-of-mouth. lol

I know.. come on Kool i told you D is talented but he is not selling out shit with those prices lol

When i saw Prince play a 4 hour show for 25 bucks, saw Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp & Willie Nelson for $98 bucks. And $110 to see Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monae, Babyface, Eric Benet, Tommy Davidson & Greyson chance all in one night.

So that 120 or whatever for a talented guy.... but one who has not made an album in fucking 12 years lol

And the fact his tickets are higher than legends like Prince, Bob, Stevie, Babyface, Mellencamp & Willie Nelson.

PLEASE! GTFO D'Angelo and his promoters lol

anybody catch D on the BET Awards? He rocked. It was awesome hearing Sugah Daddy outsideof the crappy audience recordings + what Untitled sounds like with the Testimony, instead of just him doing it solo on electric piano. Hoping he plays Untitled with full band tonight. Also hoping he changes up the setlist a bit. How about playing I Found My Smile Again? She's Always In My Hair? Left and Right? Greatdayndamorning / Booty? Send It On? Black Hole Sun? More New Songs? Just thoughts.

$100?

No.

$50?

Yes.

D has to understand he has to re-earn his spot. It can happen. Up to him.
$100 ticket prices, bad start.

I'm sorry, but my entire knowledge of D'Angelo is that I think Prince said his name once in a song.

Never heard a thing he's ever done, and have no idea why there are D'Angelo threads two or three times a week. Never, ever heard him mentioned on the news, in the paper, or anywhere else except here.

What is his connection with Prince? Are they friends? Have they done something together that I missed?

They're not friends, but they've jammed on a couple of occasions. His music is largely influenced by Prince's. His guitar player is Jesse Johnson, who we all know has a Prince connection.

A couple of weeks ago, he did a Superjam at Bonnaroo that had Eric Leeds on Sax.

The reason why you most likey haven't heard anything about him is because he hasn't put out an album in 12 years.

So, anything he does after being away for so long is gonna be talked about.

Thanks! I just remember him being name-checked in "Get Yo Groove On" but even back then, I'd not heard of him.

This part of the music business fascinates me. An artist who, I guess at best, has limited national recognition doesn't put out an album for 12 years (and counting) and still makes a living! You hear so much about how record companies screw artists (and I'm sure they do), yet here's a guy who hasn't put anything out in over a decade, and apparently rarely performs publicly, and yet he seems to be doing OK.

I wonder where the money comes from?

The last time he put out a record, foks were selling 3 million records like it was nothing.

It doesn't surprise me that he was able to live off his earnings from albums that are over a decade old.

He wasn't just a U.S. thing, though. He headlined a couple of big shows overseas and his last tour was very successful. As far as R&B Tours are concerned.

He didn't have this big mansion in L.A. eating up all of his cash, he stayed in Virginia.

He also had a drug problem, so there's no telling how much money he smoked or went up his nose.

I've followed D since 95.

I'm just wondering how you've come with this notion that he has a bunch of money?

I see no evidence of that...

I'm sure he's getting annual royalty cheques from songwriting, but I don't think he's loaded by any stretch.

Any artist of his calibre and fame should be able to "get by", just by not being a greedy idiot lol

I didn't say he had a bunch of money. I just said he apparently has enough money to live without having to put out albums. So I was curious as to what his income sources were.

Not for any reason pertaining to him directly, I'm just curious as to how the music business works over the long haul.

Maybe hes had enough to live. Hes looked pretty down and out though in some random pics in the last few years, so I'd say thats def a maybe.

Although if you've written several hit songs you can at least expect SOME kind of passive income from them for a few years to come. How much thats amounted to for him specifically, only he wold know.

He played like 4 or 5 new songs during the European tour shows. He probably opted out if he didn't play as much new material, because America is....America. neutral They are like Prince fans, "Play How does it feel!" Play "Lady" The only difference is the songs they request are from a shorter catalog, lol

He's only got 2 albums out (in 17 fuckin' years). It doesn't matter which one you listen to first, to be honest.

See, this is what interests me so much. Not especially in D'Angelo but in the fact that an artist can only put out 2 albums in 17 years (and counting) and yet, while he might not be rich he is certainly surviving. And, apparently, he was able to feed an expensive drug habit for some period of time, to boot.

I'm just interested in the financial aspect of it. On the surface, it doesn't look like D'Angelo got as "screwed" by record companies as some might have us believe.

Without knowing all the particulars, stories like this give me greater confidence in one's ability to make a living in the music business. I'm sure it's not easy, but it looks like if you can have a little success, you can go a long time on it.

D'Angelo is my boy but its too soon to be doing shows @ $100 a pop...I'm in the Dirty-South and a little birdie told me ya'll dwelling in the City of Angels gots the Cash to pay for high priced traveling-off-broadway shows and Concerts...

So is $100 bones expensive or is that bubble-gum change?
