Adele "21" vs Amy Winehouse "Back To Black"

2 talented girls, 2 Englishwomen, 2 non-standard and original artists, 2 huge success with their second albums.

Recently, we have argued with my friend, what album is better? I much prefer the album of Amy, he - Adele`s.
What do you think? wink

Adele has a very good album with 21, but it's nowhere near the brilliance of Back to Black. Amy's work is far superior.

Amy was the Janis Joplin of the 21st Century. She will never be forgotten. Back to Black is the best album by a British female period.

Back To Black is one of my top 5 favorite albums; I've listened to 21 and I didn't like it at all... it's listenable, but .. bored

+1. Adele is elevator music. Amy was musically brilliant.

"Back To Black" for me. Although I feel Adele's heralded album deserved much of the praise it received this past year, Amy's BTB left an even greater impression on me afterwards.

This was an easy one for me. biggrin

Wow.

I listened to Amy for maybe a month (I D'L the album a week after she died, keep in mind) and haven't listened since. Well, occassionaly Tears Dry on There Own but that's it. I felt like I was listening to music from the 60s.

I bought '21' a year after its release because I played it out and thought she deserved my coins. Its not perfect but I love it. In fact, I'm listening to Set Fire to the Rain as I TYPE this. lol

Back To Black by far. There are just more memorable songs that IMO will stand the test of time.

I think that's the appeal of the album. The 1960s had a lot of great music.. it's better to sound like music from the 1960s than to sound like music from the 2000s/2010s (imo, and i. many people's o.)...

To me, Amy is miles ahead of Adele vocally and lyrically. Gotta go with Amy! Her lyrics are clever and her voice kills me.

While I dig Adele she's nowhere near as brilliant or creative as Amy. Back To Black is probably the best album of the 2000's.

Adele has a cleaner image than Winehouse with image and subject matter, but I find Amy to be the more creative one, and Adele to have more mass appeal

Though I believe Adele has talent and that helped her sales, I also think the death of Amy Winehouse helped her sales in the process.

To be honest, I think Adele (before she lost her weight) had less mass appeal than Amy. Adele happened to be popular during a period where masses were tired of the generic music. This isnt the first nor the last. I dont think this means she has more or less appeal than Amy or even talent. They both are very talented but I think Amy pushed herself more musically. Adele is a good singer and descent songwriter but nothing she makes is really creative or daring musically speaking.

Yeah I meant presently she has that image, I didn't know of her during her first album and agree Amy was definitely more popular and respected for her music, jokes aside.

Adele has mass appeal cause she is a "safe act" with talent, and sometimes simplicity and beauty wins over people
