What do you think of Vanessa Williams as a singer?

I think she has done some nice stuff, like the remake of Work to Do and I like Comfort Zone and Right Stuff. I also love her rendition of What Child is this. I think her voice is a bit broawayish for Rnb though.

I LOVE Vanessa. Though, she's not a powerhouse singer, she is a good singer. To me, she is kinda versitle when it comes to her vocal stylings. Pop and Jazzy type songs tend to be her strong points, but I think she does well with r&b vocals also.

I saw her when she toured with Luther Vandross during the "Your Secret Love" tour and she bored me to tears live. She did not hardly do any of her well known hits. She was concentrating on her "Next" album, but did a few broadway trax and jazz standards. That just didn't work when she was with a mostly r&b crowd.

I will give it to her, though, she closed with a great rendition of "Betcha Never" and KILLED it. All of the bored people in the audience stood to their feet and gave her a great rousing applause.

It was similar to this performance:

Vanessa wouldn't really be an "RnB" singer, her musical style has a large range, she does a lot of bluesy and jazzy stuff to. Her first album had a strong RnB vide but after that she branched out

She has some nice Christmas albums and does nice soft ballads

My fave is album #3

i love her voice. very diverse. broad range. i'm glad she didn't let herself get pigeonholed. i think i prefer her with more R&B-ish production, so Comfort Zone and the debut were my favorites. and man, i had that Comfort Zone poster on my wall during my teen years! i LOVE that woman. Ramon Hervey and Rick Fox are some scrubs!

It's aight. I don't take her too seriously as a singer because she obviously doesn't either. It's just a ocassional hobby for her. Another way to get that bread. Thats all. She shows no emotion as a singer.

I Agree with Timmy she has a nice pop voice. I always liked her singles, but felt kind of bad for her..... it seemed they didn't know whether they wanted a Mariah & Whitney esque R&B/Pop diva or contemporary thing...

Idk it just seems they didn't know how to do her image.

Vanessa Williams has a beautiful voice. I forget which cd it is, but I think it's her greatest hits cd with the song from Pocahontas-just beautiful. Her duet with Brian McKnight (before anybody knew who he was) is great too. Beautiful lady inside and out-and Fuck the Ms. America pageant! Haven't watch that bullshit since they messed with my girl V lol

She's as good as her producers and songwriters around her LOL. Decent enough voice.

The Keith Thomas tracks are my favs by her. Big fan of his from the late 80's-early 90's. "Goodbye" off her second album for example has lovely production by him...

I find her first 2 albums average though personally. Her xmas song for David Foster was great though.

TROR

*shrugs*

Not especially good or bad. Just kind of there. Since she has redefined her career as an actress, I'm over her as a singer. That whole aspect of her seems very "yesterday."

That's because she is

From looking at different interviews with Vanessa, she is all about WORKING. I think she realized that singing is not what's paying the bills, so she just kinda put it on the back burner. I would too if I was on a top rated show as well as doing a Superbowl ad for M&Ms.

The last interview I saw with her, she said that she was in the process of preparing to record a new project. I hope we get one soon. I really enjoyed "The Real Thing."

she has a glamourous style and her voice is classically refined imo. i luv her courage as a singer/actress. so to me she balances as good a singer as a actress. also the lady can dance.

i really liked

This is totally off topic, but do people accuse Vanessa of trying to be white? I mean, her skin is a different color in all of these pictures!!! She's clearly trying to be a white woman!! It has nothing at all to do with the flash or the exposure. *rolls eyes*

Sorry, I had to because people are going in AGAIN on Beyonce for her skin looking different in People magazine. It's so stupid. How come Beyonce is the only one that gets this crap?

Christ, Madonna's skin is a different shade of white on all her CDs too but nobody accuses her of trying to be an albino.
