Beyonce shocker! She's named the world's most beautiful woman

Beyonce: Most beautiful woman in the world for 2012, People says

Beyonce has been named the world's most beautiful woman in 2012 by People magazine. (Frederic J. Brown / AFP/Getty Images / April 25, 2012)

Motherhood looks good on you, Beyonce! Especially in the eyes of People magazine, which named the entertainment dynamo its world’s most beautiful woman for 2012.

"I feel more beautiful than I’ve ever felt because I’ve given birth," she told the mag. "I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth, never so proud of myself." Blue Ivy Carter, her baby girl with hubby Jay-Z, was born Jan. 7.

Part of that purpose? Changing diapers, which apparently is also quite beautiful at Casa de Carter -- enough that Beyonce expressed "love" for the task.

Sofia Vergara, Charlize Theron, Lily Collins, Madeleine Stowe, Christina Hendricks, Michelle Williams, Paula Patton, Miranda Lambert and Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, are featured on the list as well. And, of course, there are some beautiful men, among them David Beckham, Blake Shelton, Ashton Kutcher and last year’s sexiest man alive, Bradley Cooper.

In case you were worried about 30-year-old Bey getting a big head about it all, never fear. "Being named the world’s most beautiful woman is really hard to say," she revealed in behind-the-scenes video from her cover shoot. "It’s overwhelming. It makes me feel very crunchy, and that means embarrassed." The 16-time Grammy winner says getting this recognition after giving birth makes it even better.

Plus you know you’re doing well when even a dog named after you is maybe the cutest thing in the world — below, check out Beyonce the rescue mutt, who just might be the smallest dog in the world, cradled in the hands of one Anderson Cooper.

Upping the “aww” factor on Beyonce the pooch: The little girl, who was born not breathing, stayed in this world thanks to mouth-to-mouth resuscitation from her human companion.

Hey, beats changing diapers. Maybe.

Motherhood Makes Beyoncé Feel 'More Beautiful Than Ever'

See the full story on newsstands now!Motherhood Makes Beyoncé Feel 'More Beautiful Than Ever'

Beyoncé Knowles

She's an entertainment force of nature, 16-time Grammy winner, and beauty and style icon. But Beyoncé is proudest of one title that also happens to be her most recent: mommy to little Blue Ivy Carter.

"I feel more beautiful than I've ever felt because I've given birth," says PEOPLE's 2012 World's Most Beautiful Woman. "I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth."

The "Crazy in Love" singer, 30, and her husband of four years, Jay-Z, 42, have gone gaga for Blue, born Jan. 7 in New York City. "She's just the cutest thing," gushes Beyoncé, who croons one-of-a-kind tunes to her daughter and professes to "love" changing diapers.

So who does her daughter most resemble? "She looks like Blue," says Beyoncé, who is back to her pre-pregnancy weight and gearing up for her first post-baby concerts, Memorial Day weekend at the Revel Atlantic City. "She's her own person."

"The best thing about having a daughter is having a true legacy," she adds. "The word 'love' means something completely different now."

For more of Beyoncé's exclusive interview – in which she shares her beauty secrets, reveals how she lost the baby weight and sets the record straight on all the rumors – pick up this week's special issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday

These kinds of lists make no sense to me. If the lady or guy is different every year, and the people before are not dead, did they somehow lose their looks?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I have to agree with what a friend of mine was telling me. Beyonce is pretty yes, but i know MANY girls that look like her. i went to school with many girls who had same look, same hair, eyes etc. So to me she is average looking which is not bad but most beautiful woman?

Pam Grier, Lucy Lawless or Zoe Saldona has my vote cool

There's no reward in posting every tabloid article this side of the Atlantic other that you collectively have the most responses to your threads than the Trayvon Martin 1000 flippers and subsequent related posts. What the org needs now is more Bey coverage, somehow she doesn't receive enough attention.

Good for her! I do find her gorgeous, so why not. These lists are just for fun anayway, there's NEVER going to be a 100% consensus on a matter like that. This time it's Bey's turn. It's also a nice change to see a woman of color on such a list.

I'm probably gonna get slaughtered for this, but I've always thought Beyonce is just 'average'.

To me 'beautiful' is like, Gia Carangi, where you don't even have to have a stitch of makeup on or your hair gussied up and still look breathtaking.

Some of her comments read really silly to me too, as though if someone doesn't have children then they can't possibly feel a sense of purpose in life or know what love is which is absolutely asinine to me.

I noticed too that when celebrity women have children they talk about it like it's some history-changing event, or like they're the first woman on the planet to ever reproduce lol . Says alot about their exaggerated sense of importance and their place in the world.

But really that's not totally their fault, when they have constant hangers-on and obsessed fans, blowing smoke up their asses on a regular basis. That'd probably be enough to make anybody think that they'd given birth to the next Christ just because they sing a few diddys for a living.

Though I love a lot of her songs and saw a couple of her tours, I do think she's an airhead in interviews, and felt the same as you did from the comment above. It came off as condescending and self-centered as if people who don't have what she does are lesser when the opposite is true. I already know I don't want to be looking after any kids even if it's a beautiful sounding experience and I cry over baby clothes, I don't have the time, patience or proper health or tolerance for it and would feel selfish for wanting to have a child. I would rather have freedom to do things for myself and focus on career and self-care, so sue me Beyonce.

Beyonce's looks are like her music...overrated.

However, her body is sick IMO. Now that I won't deny.

That's how it read to me too, and as someone who doesn't have kids (and isn't always sure I even want any), and definitely feels a sense of purpose and that I know what love is, I found it borderline offensive.

Comments like that make me understand why some people say that musicians should just sing and not talk.

That's great you know what love is. Though I know I'm loved by family, I'm still trying to find that feeling of self-love and feel peaceful and purposeful, but I don't believe rushing into having a family I don't want is going to make me feel complete, maybe it's true for her, but not me. I find relationships and responsibilites like that suffocating and like being tied down overall and I consider myself a floater and would not want to do that to my child.

I do like her though and during B'Day I was the most nuts for her (thought the first era was overrated), but yeah I also agree that she should stick to music and stop flaunting herself everywhere or talking for the sake of it.

Oh and I love the picture they went with for the article, she looks beautiful.
