Madonna Ties Janet Jackson's Billboard Record Did you know know that Madonna and Janet Jackson have charted more consecutive #1 studio albums on the Billboard 200 than any other female artist?
Madonna and Jackson both scored 5 consecutive #1 studio albums on the Billboard 200. The former’s ‘Music’ (2000), ‘American Life’ (2003), ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor’ (2005), ‘Hard Candy’ (2008) and ‘M.D.N.A.’ (2012) records all topped the chart. On the hand, Jackson reached the summit of the Billboard 200 with ‘Control’ (1986), ‘Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814′ (1989), ‘janet.’ (1993), ‘The Velvet Rope’ (1997) and ‘All for You’ (2001). However, Madonna has scored 8 #1 albums on the Billboard 200 compared to Jackson’s 6 chart-toppers and is second only to Barbra Streisand’s 9 top-selling records. Additionally, Madonna placed 20 top 10 albums (studio, compilations and live sets) on the lineup whereas Jackson only logged 9 of such releases. Of course, Madonna and Jackson are still far from matching the 31 top 10 albums record set by Streisand. Watch the videos for Madonna and Jackson’s most recent #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 – ‘Music’ and ‘All for You’, respectively – below: Madonna – ‘Music’

Britney would have had 7 consecutive #1 albums if it wasn't for Billboard screwing her at the last minute with Blackout.
Nonetheless, she's the only one that could say she collected 6 #1 debuts (and albums) by the ripe old age of 29.

Really...
The fact that Madonna, the biggest selling female has JUST tied 'MJ's sister' answers your idiotic post. Not to mention how many more records, the old hag has put out.

it doesn't matter...Janet still gains and looses weight more rapidly than Madonna! At least on that she wins!! People have been calling Madonna a hag 4 a while...Janet is crossing that line 2..age comes 2 everyone!

Nice! And likely will break the tie for consecutive #1 albums (and tie Ms. Streisand for overall #1 albums) when her next studio album is released a couple years from now. Pretty amazing accomplishment.
Will be interesting to see when Janet's next studio album comes out, how well it does. There's a chance she could hit #1 again, too. * * *

I think what's most telling in this story is the fact that Janet's consecutive No. 1's all came earlier in her career, while Madonna's came later in hers. [Edited 4/20/12 11:22am]

And most of Madonnas number ones arent even her classics

Madonna #8 Like a Virgin #1 True Blue #1 Like a Prayer #1 Erotica #2 Bedtime Stories #3 Ray of Light #2 Music #1 American Life #1 Confessions on a Dance Floor #1 Hard Candy #1 MDNA #1
Uh-oh... Her string of #1 albums was interrupted by a two #2's and a #3. And she only had 3 consecutive #1's early in her career.
Very telling. * * *

Madonna's released 13 albums, 3 live albums, 2 soundtrack albums, 2 remix albums and 4 compilations while Janet's released 10 albums (counting the two albums she never wanted to make), two remix albums, and 2 compilations. And I don't think I have to bring the superbowl fiasco into this. [Edited 4/20/12 14:06pm]

Oh honey, you don't want me to do that . Suffice it to say, it took Gaga 10 years to break a Janet record with the "Born This Way" single, Katy Perry 21 years to tie a Janet record with her re-release of the Teenage Dream album (just to get that elusive 7th top 5 single), and Madonna 11 years to tie Janet's 5 consecutive Billboard #1 albums-accomplishment (nevermind the fact that Janet's last studio album also debuted at #1, and still didn't see as big a sales drop in week 2 as MDNA has). Couple that with the fact that everyone from Kelly Rowland, Rihanna and Britney to Chris Brown, Usher and Ciara are still paying homage to and/or jocking Janet's looks, dance moves and video treatments, and...well...let's just say that I'm inviting you to have several seats.

Some valid points. Janet was never one to rush out backtobacktobacktoback material, even during the height of her sales. She always waited 2-4 years between projects to release new material. Had she been one to rush out a new album or single every two seconds ala Mariah, Madonna, etc., then her stats would be even higher than they are. Plus, Janet's never even had many of her biggest sellers re-certified. There's no telling what the true sales of RN, janet., Control, etc. are. "Get up off that grey line"

It didn't say "surpass". Keep it movin'
And if Janet is being used to measure Madoosa, I think we know who's the true Queen of Pop around here.
Long Live Janet Jackson.
Flame on, naysayyers...

I like them both (I like Madonna a lil bit more though)! I think it's just fine 2 discuss which of them is the best one. I think they both have control of their careers and music (and really were involved in the making of it) and were groudbreaking in the pop scenario. IMO in the end it all comes down 2 personal taste. See, becuz they're competition 4 each other. It pisses me off when people compare them 2 this new generation of non-talented copycat asses like gaga, perry, ciara, rihanna, britney, etc. It is hard for women 2 get old before the world's eyes. There's so much prejudice bout it..and I think they're doin' just fine showin' people that age ain't nothing but a number. Hope Janet will make a comeback soon and they're both stick around 4 a while becuz it is yet 2 come other women that coul fill their shoes!!
And now I'll flip a coin to decide if I'll listen 2 Erotica or janet.
