Barbara Gibb is 91

That picture above is heartbreaking. I keep hoping for some small sign that he can recover from this. That picture shows just how bleak things are.

As far as I know Lesley Gibb is still alive.

Thanks. Yeah the picture speaks a lot of volumes. I hate to say this but I think it's inevitable that it'll be reported that Robin has joined Maurice and Andy in the skies. sad dove

Didn't know that the Gibbs also had a sister until now.

Here's some Bee Gees brillance that most in the US never heard. This song should have been a maassive hit (and was internationally - hitting #1 in more than a half dozen countries)

highly underrated (even by Bee Gees fans) High Civlilzation album (probably the most Prince like Bee Gees album)

And Human Sacrifice from the same album

and then there's this gem - perhaps teh last Bee Gees track featuring Robin. Recorded for thier last album, but not included because the record label thought it wasn't appropriate for a Bee Gees album. I had heard about this one, but hadn't heard it until tonight.

Sensuality - the Bee Gees

And since this thread is about Robin, this next one certainly belongs. I overlooked it on my list on page 1.

Rings Around The Moon - a bonus track from Still Waters

A few more

two from the album Still Waters

From the title track (I didn't know there was a video to this song)

Alone - their last US top 40 hit (great clips from their lives on this video)

And the title track to This is Where I Came In

And the title track to One

Exept for teh Stayin' Alive video I posted, everything I've been posting is from after most people thought the Bee Gees career was over. As you can see, they were still quite brilliant. I never will understand why the music industry didn't give them the respect they deserved.

The Bee Gees are one of the greatest groups ever. Their songs have such beautiful melodies and they are excellent songwriters.

I don't know why they're written off as being just a "disco act". They are so much more than "Saturday Night Fever" (though it is one of my fave soundtracks ever). They definitely don't get the respect they deserve.

The industry did not know what to make of the Bee Gees. People used to dismiss them as a poor man's Beatles when they came out - though their music was their own. Then when they began to have numerous hits, they were deemed a disco act. I think the passage of time and people realizing "oh wait they wrote that! Oh they wrote that?" That's why they got in the Hall really.

The most beautiful melodies for sure. nod

No other band has a catalogue so broad in scope. And what they achieved in the first two years of international fame is nothing short of remarkable considering how young they were. Robin and Maurice were only 17 when Bee Gees' 1st was released in 1967 and it's considered to be one of the greatest albums of the psychedelic era. Just two years later they released their fourth album Odessa (a double) which has grown in stature over time and now regarded as an overlooked gem and a lost classic.

Even when their success dwindled for a while in one country they were still having number ones in other parts of the world.

They simply never stopped having hits throughout their entire career.

Sure there's been a few duds along the way but that's to be expected considering they recorded almost constantly from 1963 through to 2001.

And then there's all the songs they gave to other artists. Love them or loathe them they're an extraordinary band.

Yeah, I first heard this a few years ago and was rather baffled at the reason given for Universal forcing them to take it off the album.

Lovely song.

Barry responded to Universal's decision by whispering the words "kiss my arse" during the intro to Technicolour Dreams from the same album. lol

Something written and recorded by Barry and/or Robin has hit the top 10 or better on some chart somewhere in the world every decade for 6 decades now. The first charted in 1963, they first hit #1 in 1966.

Here's a complete list of singles the Bee Gees released as a group and where they charted (a total of 74 songs charted somewhere - this doesn't count solo songs or songs written for other artists)
