I do agree about that. Aretha definitely has had it rough. I guess she didn't feel she needed to be there and actually do grieve in private... and everything said here including what I said was just speculation. But the funeral's over so let's just let Whitney rest in peace finally.

Aretha Franklin according to her statement via her publicist and her message to Al Roker had every intention of going to the funeral, but after getting in very late from the meet and greet after her sell-out show at Radio City Music Hall, she woke up at 4AM and realized she had muscle spasms in her leg and thought it best to stay off of it as much as possible today to prepare for show tonight. Franklin would have to have gone to Newark, NJ from her hotel in Manhattan at about 10:30AM, then be back in Manhattan by 3:00PM, the funeral was nearly 4 hours - it was a dicey situation. I understand. Ditto for Babyface who wanted to be there, but he has a concert tonight in nothern California and even with a private jet flight of 5 hours to Newark airport and 5 hours back, he would've been pressed, not considering jet lag. Aretha is not a spring chicken and with her recent life-threatening surgery, we treasure she is still with us. I am sure she and Cissy have spoken. I additionally wouldn't be surprised if she goes to the cemetery to pay homage as she leaves The Big Apple to head back to Detroit via her tour bus.

I love us we know how to put on a real funeral.. Its not about that glitter, glam, hollywood etc... Its about remembering and honoring the past and keeping in mind to put God first in everything like Whitney did. Despite everything that she went through she truly was led by her faith in God and was a spirtual woman. She will forever live in our hearts.. God bless you Whitney

yeah, remember Aretha doesn't fly. she has to go by car everywhere. And the funeral being that long... and in order to have a concert I would imagine you have to be there early for mic check etc.

Aretha has had some money problems in the past and I am sure with her staging her own comeback and new tour, she doesn't want to make her concert tour sponsor nervous about her reliability.

At the same time... it is bad that she got on national tv and basically wrote checks she couldn't cash... not just be at the service but to actually perform.

Just announcing that to Al Roker on news program was not a decision based on good judgment... but from emotional grief.

So ... it could happen to anyone of us J give her a pass because all this week I have seen interviews were Aretha was supportive and protective of Whitney.

The woman most sincerely WANTED TO BE THERE but in the end, she couldn't! Whatever her reasons are really no one's concern but her own. I am more than sure that when Aretha Franklin takes the stage at Radio City tonight. Her LOVE for Whitney will be right there with her. That's more than anyone else should expect of her!
