Rihanna Loud Tour Grosses 90 Million (Plus Official Top 25 Tours Of 2011)

Rihanna's "LOUD" concert was the highest grossing Hip-Hop/R&B tour for the 2011 year, taking in over $90 million dollars. Come inside to find out how tours from Usher, Sade, and Kanye West/Jay-Z fared inside.....

According to POLLSTAR, which is well known for ranking the Top 25 Worldwide Tours for 2011, Rihanna is the Queen of the R&B Pack with $90M in ticket sales. She wrapped up another tour and went on her LOUD tour for 6 months all this year.

U2 was the #1 grossing act with $231M and youngin' Taylor Swift grossed over $104M. While these aren't the amounts the celebs get to take home themselves, they definitely get a hefty chunk of it after their crews, management and third party promo companies are all paid.

Sade brought in $83 million dollars, followed by Usher with $59M and The Throne (which only toured a little over 2 months) with $48M.

Congrats to all the big money makers!

They actually did well for themselves in the UK prior to this tour... they were still having hit albums in Europe.

That would explain it. Thanks. Why American acts don't parlay both (States & UK) touring markets is beyond me.

Well one thing that jumps out is that less than 10 on that list even have new product out or are a top airplay or seller these days, so once again touring $$ and your charts do not go hand in hand. Next thing is that people forget that there is a world outside america, america is not the force for anything anymore, even more money is made touring overseas, though its expensive, its more expensive for euro artists to tour here than the other way around, which is why you many times do not see groups coming over here. Im not really surprised by take that, because Robbie was fucking the messiah overseas and did nothing here, so seeing that doesnt surprise me at all.

Well you cant really just pick up and play overseas though, you have to have some sort of draw over there, i mean Amerie can pick up and do shows in Japan and Uk because they dig her there and not here, but alot of our artists dont appeal overseas touring wise, and yes add in laziness of just thinking outside the box, I mean Bon Jovi, U2 etc,.. all showed why you have to go to these countries, Bon Jovi has sold close to 175 million albums and almost 2/3 of that is overseas markets, look at Queen they told AMerica FU after 1981, a-ha let me not even get into what they did in 2010 on their 80 date tour which grossed them more than Prince's "Musicology" tour.

Wow! Bono is a monster. cool
only 34 gigs and $ 230 million (a very conservative estimate, by the way, I met 250 and 280 million dollars).

if U2 arrange a mega concert tour with 150-180 shows, they will overcome the figure of one billion dollars. eek

When you say "there is a world outside of America" are you talking about ALL of the rest of the world or just Europe? Also, by America do you just mean the USA?

If by America you mean the USA and by the "world outside of America" you mean every place else, I would assume there is more money to be made every place else. Every place else has a lot more people than the USA. There are also a lot more people in Europe than there is in the USA, so again I would expect an artist who has a real following there to be able to make more money.

Why is it that it costs more for European artists to travel/tour the US than it does for an US artist to travel/tour Europe?

edit: too many us's there biggrin

so another person was brought this up on another site

"Artists only get about 30% of the revenue that has to be split among EVERYONE. (Dancers, manager, etc). Plus most of the tour money has to be used to pay the bills.

What saved U2 from going bankrupt were there merchandise sales."

wow only 30%

also it seems like justin bieber has a very dedicated fanbase he did good i don't think the jonas brothers or hannah montana gross that much

Although they only had one hit in the USA, Take That had plenty of hits in the UK throughout the 1990's & 2000's.

I'm just happy for Gary Barlow & Robbie Williams to co-existed in the same studio without drama. lol
