Funk Group War PISSED at Hall Of Fame Snub -- Beasties Ain't On Our Level!

Funk Group War PISSED at Hall Of Fame Snub -- Beasties Ain't On Our Level!

Howard Scott from the band War
The guys from War are FUMING after being snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this week -- telling TMZ the fact the Beastie Boys got in before them is some serious salt in the wound.

TMZ spoke with Howard Scott -- vocalist and a founding member of War -- who tells us he’s “shocked” the rappers were inducted before his band, saying, “We were cranking out gold records when they were still in diapers.”

Scott adds, "How could the Beastie Boys get in before us when they sampled War's music on their first album?! I'll eat their platinum records!"

The singer had been pretty hopeful his group would finally be inducted into the HOF this year ... and says the disappointing news "felt like I was kicked in the back of my britches."

For the record -- War was founded back in 1969 ... and DOMINATED music with hits like Cisco Kid, Why Can't We Be Friends, Slippin' Into Darkness ... and of course, LOW RIDER!!!

I agree with them. How the hell is an 80s rap group gonna get inducted before an important, influential 70s funk band??

It's ridiclous.

It's funny how two of the groups are somewhat newer and influenced clearly by African American music (Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chilli Peppers). Sad.

I wonder if WAR getting passed over has something to do with the rift between Lonnie Jordan (founding memeber), who is currently a member of WAR and Howard and the rest of the original members together with their group the Lowrider Band.

As Howard and the guys are not allowed to use the WAR name for anything. As Lonnie feels those guys are not members of WAR and are probably not welcome when it comes to anything WAR.

I have a feeling the current members of WAR feel their the ones deserving of the honor ahead of the original guys. Being that some of them have been with WAR now at least 20 years.

Maybe the Hall does not want to deal with that. Just a theory.

I also was upset about War not making the final cut for induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Along with Rufus, these two bands were quintessential makers of great RHYTHM AND BLUES music that the RRHOF seem to forget is an element of rock n roll music. I believe the Beastie Boys are deserving of induction but I don't believe they should get in on the first ballot. War is a great and important band that played funk, rock and even reagae music. I hope War don't think they are alone because as a fan these brothas injected social commentary and uplifting messages in the music that went beyond hit records.

Also, Billy Cox of the Band of Gypsys has been campaigning for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame to induct them for being the first Black power rock trio, helping Jimi Hendrix attract more Black fans with the funk and earthiness they brought to rock music and has complained that the Hall of Fame is giving him the run around.

I was happy when EWF, Issac Hayes, Prince, The Dell got in. But the card carrying funkateers members of the HOF should investigate why there is so much apprehension on the part of the voters to enshrine rhythm and blues artists.

Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke! How the fuck can they induct Guns & Roses and the Beastie Boys and ignore War, Chaka Khan and Donna Summer, who were legends long before anyone even heard of G&R and BB???

I have no idea how the BB's got in this. I was never a fan. RHCP are a great band, but War should've been in there long ago. It's sad.

I guess the Beastie Boys have friends in high places. They've always seemed to garner more recognition than was deserved IMO.

Poor WAR. I love Why Can't We Be Friends. To me its a sister song to Sly's Everyday People.

You know, I was gonna say something about them being bitter about an organization that was biased anyway but what's the point anymore? It's just a stupid organization, always have been. They're legends. Why would they need this validation? And the Beasties didn't deserve to be bitched on...

I can't say they shouldn't be upset but they shouldn't be surprised either. When you look at the R&R HOF's track record, it's not surprising. When you look at who's not in yet versus who is in, you realize that their credibility is lacking... Nowadays it looks like they're considering their television show and ratings as they vote instead of artistic merit and cultural impact.

Either way, R&RHOF doesn't make or break your legendary status anyway. WAR's status is already cemented in our hearts and the archives of music history. They were one of my brother's favorite bands.

With that being said, shout out to The Peppers and BB anyway. Congratulations mafuckas8-)

nod And of course they wait until an artist/group, especially black ones, have been dead for decades before they even acknowledge them. I mean who the fuck they think started rock & roll? Where do they think those early influences come from?

And what's even more sad is these guys haven't been honored by BET either.

ABBA & Madonna didn't deserved to be bitched on neither. But hot damn it, we can never overlook the fact that the longer KISS is denied a place in the R&RHOF, the far more of a joke the R&RHOF will continue to be.

Wow another white hate response thread. Look war is great! But so is the beastie boys & red hot chilli peppers. Yes they where inspired by african american music and? I also ate a pickle today! Wanna talk about more shit that doesn't matter? This is about the music, they all have made great music. War is a killer funk band and they deserve there place! No doubt, the beastie boys mixed punk & rap and made it something unique. And they used samples in a very clever way and some groundbreaking videos. The chilli peppers are kings of alternative, also my aunt is a dj... said rhcp is the only group she played on every stationshe worked at. They appeal to rockers, funksters, heavy metal, even r&b. And make unique music by fantastic, respected musicians. The r&r hall of fame is a joke anyway....

Surely you're not basing the R&RHOF's credibility on one act are you? Even if you add them to the list for this year's class, they still would be a joke. Their list of omissions is something criminal.

It doesn't matter anyway because of the commercialization of all of these awards induces vomit barf

So you´re saying that "the Jews" are behind this .....but then you say that KISS should´ve been in the RRHOF a long time ago. You do know that Gene Simmons is also Jewish, right?

I mean, if you really think it´s the Jews, then how come KISS haven´t been inducted yet? Sounds a bit paradoxical to me. And maybe a bit paranoid?

You didn't get the part where I said "picture satire". wink

As for Paul & Gene, they don't kiss ass (no pun intended). They already admitted publicly on numorous occasions that they're not bother if they're in the HOF or not. The main people that are taking the bad news hard are long time KISS-fans (AKA The KISS Army).

Which is why I don't understand why WAR is angry at this. They should be happy that bullshit organization didn't consider them because they cater to mainly sell-outs and WAR was never that. I'm sure the other nominees don't care much about a Hall of Fame. I know Donna sure as hell don't but she still be honored if she was chosen. Same with Eric B. & Rakim and whoever was nominated this year and years before that... plus I like the Beastie Boys!

I said this in this thread already, but what is new with what WAR is saying? This has been said for years. Even Ozzy Osbourne gave them a piece of his mind of how he thought about it but still got in as member of Black Sabbath...YEARS after they were first eligible.

yeah, like you said, why do they need validation when they are legends?
