Record labels now authorize Amazon.com to burn and sell CD-Rs

Before you purchase another music CD from Amazon.com, read the item page carefully. The item being sold may actually be a CD-R.

This is a BAD move IMHO.

Hmm yeah I didn't know they authorized it. Some idiot sold me a CD-R of an album and I raised all hell with Amazon last week.

I saw this. Several cds are marked as "cd-r". I'm afraid to order them. I saw classics from Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes and a few other Philly International albums listed as CD-Rs. confused

Was it listed on the site as a cd-r?

Not at all. I'm sort of skeptical of buying albums that are deemed used on there now.

I've bought a few used cds on Amazon without any issues.

I do know that if you report them to Amazon, they will not allow them to sell on their site.

MusicStack has been doing this for ages.
However, they're clearly marked as such.

That's what I eventually did but it bothers me because it has never happened before and I think Amazon should look into some used items they claim are shipped from their warehouses.

They've been doing that for quite some time now. I've noticed it over the past year or so. But, it always clearly states the product is a CD-R. Found it out last year when I was looking for Ronnie Law's "Harvest For the World" CD and amazon had it listed as:

"Harvest For The World

This title is manufactured "on demand" when ordered from Amazon.com, using recordable media as authorized by the rights holder. Powered by CreateSpace, this on-demand program makes thousands of titles available that were previously unavailable. For reissued products, packaging may differ from original artwork. Amazon.com’s standard return policy will apply."

Just bought both of George's Paisley Park cds, very satisfied. Also ordered Carleen Anderson, David McAlmont, and Shara Nelson. Looking forward to great music.

I was thinking about buying Diana Ross' now out-of-print 1970 solo debut, Diana Ross, but when I saw that Amazon was selling the CD-R version with alternate artwork, I hesitated. To eBay I go. Not a good look or idea.

Exactly. I've noticed them for years.

Then again, what is a CD-R? I recently bought a Warner Classic Archive Movie and it's a CD-R. It only plays the movie but apparently has a trailer as well. It doesn't have proper chapters, but the movie looked great (or what it was, which was black and white). I bought another one for a movie that I've really liked for a long time and I was hoping would be released on DVD. So while it's not perfect, it's still sort of offical.
