Otis Redding was acknowledged as The King of Soul.

I'm curious.

If Aretha is the Queen of Soul and

MJ is the King of Pop and

James Brown is/was the Hardest Working Man in Show Business and

T.IP is the King of the South and

Prince is the Prince of Pop/Rock

Then who the hell is the King of R&B? confuse

Yeah it always changes every few years too smile I remember when Justin Timberlake was supposed to be this boy wonder of pop music....most pop stars fizzle pretty quickly, I guess that's why it's called pop music because as soon as they are blown up, like a balloon they pop and then vanish! smile

Honestly, when was the last time you heard a mob of teen girls busting down doors to get into a Hanson concert? smile

Many Kings from back in the day. Wish folks today would take a look at the quality and originality of songwriting from the Masters.

You can make a case for Marvin, Stevie, Al, and James as far as 70's artist go

but from 1990 on : Stokley

He does it all. Write, sing, produce, play guitar, keyboards, drums and steel drums.

Check out the drum solo at the end.

Solomon had several nicknames. As Timmy84 pointed out the King of Rock and Soul was one of them. He was also known as King Solomon, the Bishop of Soul and the Muhammud Ali of Soul.

Personally I like Joe Tex's "title;" the Clown Prince of Soul.

R. Kellywas Dubbed "King of R&B" by Music critics and Radio DJ's didn't dispute it. He's got the Talent to hold the "Crown", i like a a lot of his Hits, but he wouldn't be MY pick...

The same thing happened to Mary j. Early-early on. Radio & Music Critics crowned her "The Queen of Hip hop Soul" simply because nobody was putting out material as consistent as Queen Mary...

Same situation with Erykah Badu...Radio DJ's & Music Critics all agree that she is "The Queen of Neo-Soul"...I must say there is no argument..The Sista owns it...Jill Scott wants it but Erykah owns it...

I LOVE Whitney MADLY. Always have and always will. But "The Queen of Pop" rightfully deserves to go to Mimi Carey...She's unmatched on all levels. However, Music Critics & Radio DJ's CONTINUE to Flip-Flop the title to Whitney, MaDonna & Mimi...Mariah deserves it but Critics wanna share the title...

The Late-Great James Brown will always be known as "The Godfather of Soul" which is simply another term for "King of Rhythm & Blues"...no matter how you spin-it that is what "Godfather of Soul" means.....The ONLY reason R. kelly is ABLE to keep the title "King of R&B" is because it wasn't disputed when James was alive and people will look at it separately from "Godfather of Soul"....So Kelly can have "King of R&B" and wear it proudly...

Critics are now referring to Patti LaBelle as "The Godmother of Soul" which she DESERVES to be called...No one is representing and protecting Soul music better than Patti. Now that Critics have honored her with the title whenever you go to a Patti concert she has a Jumbo-Screen Monitor on stage that flashes "The Godmother of Soul" Proudly.....

The Late Great Luther Vandross is the Greatest Male Vocalist that ever recorded. There is no title for him because his voice still lives on as the GREATEST....

these whole titles, that said, bug the fuck out of me. it's all pr crap. Leon Russell is the "Master of Space and Time" or some shit. Tina is the Queen of Rock, Aretha queen of soul, madonna queen of pop, gaga queen of rich illuminati trash...MJ did it best. straight up market campaigned his record as the KING OF POP and it was forever attached to him even when he was totally out of the game for what, 8 years? but other than that stroke of brilliance eh...whatevs, Teena Marie is the Ivory Queen of Soul? I mean i am obsessed with the bitch but fuck, what am i, the king of prince.org badu fans? ok...

I don't agree with everything in your post, but this last statement I totally agree.

A close second to Luther boxed is Donny Hathaway.

Here's why I think this. Both men have phenomenal natural singing voices. They both can sing without even appear to try. Their voices are so natural and so smooth that it appears they are just breathing... while making great music with just their vocal cords.

I give it to Luther over Donny because I have heard Luther do "tricks" or runs with his voice that sent chills down my spine. But he didn't over do this the way Mimi does with her whistle register singing. A little goes a long way.

Luther knew this and was the very best at using his talent.

Personally, I do not know at least one person who does not know about Elvis or Michael, and their "royal" status.

It is impossible for anyone who has a TV, radio or newspaper. lol

Well, more than half of the world don't have TV or Radio and many countries that have newspaper have to "select" things that can be on paper (government-manuplated media system) so... wink

I was reading Lisa Ling's interview one day and she said she visited North Korea and was surprised that people she met didn't know who Michael Jackson was. It really shouldn't be that shocking.

.....but go to South Korea, it's a different story lol
