Why wasn't Madonna on "We Are the World"?

Does anyone know? And forgive me if this has been asked 100x before

The Madonna of 1985 was a different person compared to today's version. I don't think people took her seriously so she wasn't invited.

1985 Madonna wasn't invited.

But Bob Geldof made sure she got into Live Aid. I loved her look for the performance - which probably shocked the audience noting how she emerged as a blonde initially but having her hair back to its natural state, she threw people off. lol

My favorite line from her during her performance was: "I ain't taking shit off today! biggrin " falloff

Madonna was still becoming "Madonna" when that thing was being assembled. My guess is that she wasn't invited. if she cared about being snubbed, then I'm sure she got a kick out of the fact that "Crazy For You" bumped "We Are the World" out of the #1 spot.

I had no idea she wasn't invited, but she was a huge star then, right?

She was what we would call today, "on the rise". I think she became a huge star AFTER 1985 came to a close... I think she had just started her Virgin tour around that time.

No, the theme about Madonna, not about Elvis and Michael.
You need to take a closer look at the topic title, my dear! wink

I understand that you're a fan of Madonna, but assume that she is more successful than Michael and Elvis - really weird. eek

Longer career, more successful tours, more hits, crossover success in film, successfull label, etc.

It's not weird. It's common knowledge.

there's the answer smile

What's amazing to me is,how many 'big' names either weren't invited or chose not to be a part of it...

Aretha Franklin

Luther Vandross

Patti LaBelle

Donna Summer

Rick James

Madonna hasn't been big in years. Yeah 4 Minutes was a hit but not the album itself. More Successful Tours? Michael has the most successful tours in music history, more hits? Next to Glee, Elvis has the largest amount of songs to get into the Hot 100. Also he was 18 Number One hits! The most of anybody on the U.S charts. I am a fan of Madonna but saying that she is more successful than MJ and Elvis is just ignorant.

Aretha Franklin - probably chose not to be a part of it

Luther Vandross - invited but probably was too busy to do it

Patti LaBelle - she's ALWAYS saying she was going to do something as eventful as this and probably said "but I was never invited" (then again was she at the American Music Awards at all?)

Donna Summer - Invited but probably had other options like her babies

Rick James - I couldn't see Rick wanting to be a part of it! lol

You're high on crack, or an evil hater:

Confessions on a Dance Floor peaked at number one in 40 countries, earning a place in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records as the album topping the charts in most countries.[23] In the United States, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 350,000 copies in its first week. It became her sixth number one album on the chart and the third consecutive album to debut at the top, following Music (2000) and American Life (2003).[24] To date, the album has sold over 1.703 million copies in America, according to Nielsen SoundScan.[25] On December 14, 2005, the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments of one million copies of the album.[26] In Australia, the album debuted at the top of the chart for the issue dated November 21, 2005.[27] It has since been certified two times platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) denoting shipments of 140,000 copies.[28] The album also debuted at the top of the charts in Canada, with first week sales of 74,000.[29]

In the United Kingdom, the album debuted at the top of the UK Albums Chart becoming Madonna's ninth number-one album and eventually selling over 1.6 million copies.

To date, worldwide sales stand at 8 million copies, according to The Times, and 12 million according to Chicago Sun-Times.[38][39]

The Sticky & Sweet Tour broke many records in terms of its ticket sales, commercial gross and audience attendance. After the first leg, it became the highest grossing tour by a solo artist, earning $282 million, breaking the previous record Madonna herself held with her Confessions Tour. Overall, Madonna performed to over 3.5 million fans in 32 countries, grossing a total of US$408 million, making it also the fourth highest grossing tour of all time, only behind U2's U2 360° Tour, AC/DC's Black Ice World Tour and The Rolling Stones's A Bigger Bang Tour. It still remains the highest grossing tour by a solo artist. At the 2009 Billboard Touring Awards, the Sticky & Sweet Tour won the Top Tour and Top Draw prizes, which acknowledge the highest-grossing and highest-attended tours of the year, respectively. Madonna's manager Guy Oseary won the Top Manager award.

shut you mouth the next time sugar, unless you wanna embarrass yoself again in front of everybody, lol

Sticky & Sweet was the most successfull solo tour of all time, topping her previous. I think that counts as being pretty big in the past couple years.

Madonna is second to the Beatles in terms of chart success. Not counting Glee.

Automatically putting Madonna far behind MJ and Elvis is sexist.
