I made a Police thread months ago, these guys where simply stunning. Lord Copeland is one hell of an amazing drummer... and the songwriting and everything. BUT WE KNOW THAT

Sting and his solo career need some more love, Sting is a multi instrumental mastermind and really knows his shit.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

As much as I like The Police, I've always prefered Sting's solo work until 1993. Nothing Like The Sun, The Soul Cages and Ten Summoner's Tales are amazing albums. The following records were OK, but more irregular.

My favourite songs:

- They Dance Alone

- Why Should I Cry For You?

- The Wild Wild Sea

- Fields Of Gold

- Shape Of My Heart

- Ghost Story

Difficult to choose, anyway.

i prefer the police but sting does have some amazing songs too. "Fragile" deserves a mention too, beautiful song.

Sting always comes to my mind when I hear the word "underrated". You can't name many artists with a catalogue as rich as his.

I was a fan as a kid, then kind of fell off after Nothing Like the Sun, thinking Sting was boring and pretentious. I still think that, but I've grown to appreciate his music again. He seems to know he's pretentious, so who cares? He is talented and creative, and has a unique voice.

love the first album

I love The Police definitely one of my most favorite bands of all time.

And I also love Sting his solo work, his later solo work is a bit nah. But his first records (till Ten Summoner's Tales ) are truly amazing.

This was probably the last song I loved by Sting, from the last album I bought.

''I Burn For You'' is so underrated. It's one of my most favorite Police songs. I love it.

Also ''Invincible sun'' is a great track;

And this song! Is my jam lately

They have too many great songs. wink

Yes, King Of Pain is great. The other day I listened to Wrapped Around Your Finger. It may be my favourite Police track.

Someone once told me that Wrapped Around Your Finger was secretly purchased from Bob Marley (or his estate) lol

Don't much believe that, but I could certainly hear him sing "you consider me a young apprentice" if not "caught between the Scylla and Charybdis"

for me, The Police changed the rules of the game

perhaps the ultimate new-wave band

sting solo albums are good (at least until 1993), but they lack the humor and vitality of the Police albums...

Kind of like George Michael, the Police and Wham were super hooky, but as solo artists they seemed to become obsessed with being taken seriously to the detriment of their music.

IMO Sting fared better, though

Faith was still a funny album, the ballads were sad, but the dance numbers were def upbeat. The downhill started with the overrated and pompous Prejudice.Vol1 (ye, I said it)

Sting's 80s and 90s albums have some very funny moments nonetheless, unlike now with those folkie/viking/symphonic albums which are unlistenable!!! lolollol

I love how the Police could write a lyric as serious as Roxanne but with upbeat/catchy music, or just plain comedy songs like Canary in a Coalmine...

then came Synchronicity with some dark/sad songs which were a preview of Sting's solo career...

yeah Faith was still when GM still wanted to have hits, and not just be taken seriously

I feel like Sting went more gradually & naturally in that direction, GM went there very self consciously, especially considering the title of the album Listen Without Prejudice--it's actually kind of desperate.

that title smells like a rotten piece of cheese, or a WWII wound with gangrene, lol. It actually makes you listen the album WITH extreme prejudice, lolollolol
