I've heard the whole album on wimp, a norwegian app similar to spotify. I think overall the albums is pretty good. It's not groundbreaking at all, and it's absolutely no 1999. Soundwise it is emulating the feel of 1999, the sound of The Time as well as some early Sheila E new wave funk. This just proves she has done her research on Prince pretty damn well. Even though she is almost copying the sound, she is bringing enough personality to the table to make it somewhat fresh in todays context. No classic, but a great fun listening to. The production is tight too.

That's a well written and fair review of CHÂTEAU FAUX-COUPE. Tight production and great fun to listen to ... EVERY SINGLE DAY seems to become a club favorite down here, we played it several times in our little club tonight and the people came over screeming for more!!! It has that certain SOS Band/Flyte Tyme Groove from back in the days, not created in this perfection for a long time.

I am not going to talk the new albums of The Original 7ven or Fdeluxe here. In the end they are the Minneapolis Funk!

No, the year 2011 has brought some hot new music, mostly from so called 'Independent Artists' which are heavily influenced by the Minneapolis music scene but have never worked with Prince himself. Please check them out, they are definitely worth a listen ....

My very favorite is:

MAYA VIK - Album: CHâTEAU FAUX-COUPE

kind of a SHEILA E from Europe ....

other favorites:

GOLDIE WATSON - ELECTRIC HEAVEN

PATRICK STUMP - SOUL PUNK

JOHNNY SHOWCASE - LOVE IS THE MESSAGE

DEONIS - THE BREAKING POINT

NINA ATTAL - YELLOW 6/17

TGFA - WHITE KEY

JOY DELIVERED - JOY DELIVERED

WES STYLES - THE BETAMAX COLLECTION

NAZZ - GLORIA EUPHORIA

Please name your discoveries here, I am sure I missed some ... Thank You!

The Maya Vik tune is NIIIIICE!!!!!

cool

Maya Vik - Daydreamer sounds like a The Time track, or a jamie starr prince Do Me Baby type with more "cold" and up to date production. I think it is using the same chords and almost the same bassline, but is still a fresh listen.

Yeah that song is hot! Been listening alot to this album lately. I must say it is brilliant, it actually tops Condensate imo. Condensate has great songs, but is more unstabile, while Maya Vik has delivered an album that is a cool listen all the way. It's light and fun, but sophisticated at the same time. This is how it would sound if Flyte Time, Quincey Jones, Dj Quick and Prince joined forced and did a european version of Minneapolis funk. If annyone is interrested in similar artists vocal wise, ya'll should check out this chick...

I sign that! We both seem to love MAYA a lot, the album really grows on you with each listen ... While, ok, Condensate is a very enjoyable relase, but I dont listen to it that much anymore, it became kind of boring after a while, furthermore there is not one single track that I can use in the club?! I tried playing 'Trending' and 'Condensate' with little success but the people love 'Every Single Day' ... Let's hope for more great music from MAYA VIK in the near future.

This chick totally sample/ripped off Shakatak, that Jazz/Funk band from the 80's.

First off you rock! Thanks for posting this thread I love it! I've been looking for more Princely stuff to add to my collection. Soul Punk in my opinion is a pop/funk masterpiece and might make my number one this year for album of the year! Never heard of Maya Vik before but I am loving this and hope I can get a copy of her album. Cheers!

Is Maya Vik's entire album like Get Low? I really hope so!

the org is a rather odd (but always amusing) place

this is the EXACT sound that Prince has on MPLS/20Ten, but people (fans? really) dissed both albums, shrug

but oh! wait! wait a minute! if some new artist releases an album with this sound, then he/she is the funky as hell, the new saviour of funk!

but if Prince releases a new album with this sound,...then he's done, he's copying himself, he's desperate, he's out of ideas, etc rolleyes

fart

Not me. I really wish Prince would make more albums that sound like this...copying himself.

All in all CHÂTEAU FAUX-COUP is much more relaxed and sophisticated like f.e. SOUL PUNK but that certain Minneapolis Vibe is all over it ...

I can understand that Patrick Stump's Soul Punk is your Number 1, I love it a lot, too, i only got this problem with the single 'This City' and a couple of other tracks on here, they're too poppish for my spoiled ears ...

Have you tried DEONIS - The Breaking Point and listen to JOY DELIVERED's LOVE Album on itunes, there are 2 tracks on it which will send you to heaven ... And if that's not enough, add SEVEN from Swizzerland to your collection. All his albums are great and he's deeply influenced by Prince, he even managed to get Tamar Davis for a duet, WOW!

This City by Patrick Stump and Spotlight are very pop but damn they are so catchy so they get a pass from me. Other than that, I think that album is so good. I'm surprised by some of the mediocre reviews i've read. I can't understand it....

Never heard of Joy Delivered but I will check them out. I happened to find a copy of the Maya Vik album and will listen to it tomorrow. I'll write more after i've heard it but I think i'm gonna love it!

Hi!

Annie's records are awesome, I think you won't be disappointed. They have an 80's flavour, particularly the second.

Oh, by the way, I'm not from Catalonia, actually I'm from Madrid. I made the joke about Catalonia, but I wasn't born there. I appreciate them a lot though, they have the most European mindset here in Spain, and Barcelona is a beautiful city. And they have Guillamino!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, merci, merci, merci for turning me on to Rozoff..

Hello Javi, which ANNIE album do you mean, 'Dont Stop' or 'Anniemal'? I am not quite sure which one is the 'second' ... And thank's to you and Replica for introducing!

So, you're from Madrid .... that's a pretty descent place to live, isnt it? Anyhow, I admire the fact that Spain has left Central-Europe far behind regarding the implementation of certain human rights, Congratulation!

Yes, I like these 4 tracks I purchased from Guillamino! Are their any other Funkster in your country which are worth a listen? Do you know VENUE CONNECTION from Madrid? It's not P Music but some good chill out jazz-funk/soul ....

The French Funk scene is incredible but sadly overlooked outside our country. Their are so many great Artist and most of them are heavily influenced by Prince's work ... I could name you at least a dozend others which come close to Juan Rozoff talent, but this would overload this thread here ....

Why dont you give NINA ATTAL a listen, I posted her live performance of HEAD up here. Some 9 minutes of cheer funk heaven, believe me!!!!!!!!!! And her album is ... WOW!

Anniemal is the first album, Don't Stop the second. Both are amazing, I couldn't choose my favourite if I tried... wink

Unfortunately, the funk scene in Spain is not as rich as the French. However, I've read in Rock de Lux (a Spanish music magazine) something about a band that were heavily influenced by early 90's Prince (N.P.G.). I'll try to find the article and I'll tell you.

I can't help you with the venues, sorry.

Who is this guy now I think I like him. The song is good. Doesn't send me Prince vibes I think he got his own style. Its kinda laid back but had some thought put into this mid tempo r&b pop piece. The chorus almost reminds me of the verses style like If by Janet.

SEVEN is a R&B/Funk artist from Swizzerland. So far he released, I believe, 4 or 5 albums overhere in Europe. His style, vocally & productionwise is heavily influenced by Prince on many tracks, esspecially on the first both but on HOME & FOCUSED, his 2 latest albums, too.

My favorits on Home are 'Crazy X' and 'Brother & Sister' a duet with TAMAR DAVIS. On Focused there is this splendid ballad 'LET ME BE' and 'I SHOULD' ....

The albums should be available in the USA/CANADA, too, but I am not sure ...

PS: And he's cute, isnt he?

Yes, Andy, everytime we play ESD the dancefloor is packed and people start yelling at minute 4:sth when the break appears ... Lots of guests have asked if this is a unreleased track from the SOS Band hosting another lead-singer lol

Anyhow, it's hard to name favorites on Château Faux-Coupe, Shoplifter & Oslo Knows is great, too. And I agree that the MPLS Funk is on here but she definitely gots her own skills .... To me this album is like the never released follow up to Jill Jones/Taja Sevelle/Sheila E's latest Paisley Park projects ..... Word!

I'm with you on that. I broke down and got it from Juno. It's a slammin album. My only gripe is that I can't really work out what she's saying most of the time. I think the vocals are kind of low but the album is great and has really good beats. I'm not sure how many of you are hip to Lushus Daim & The Pretty Vain but Oslo Knows is basically a track by them called The one you love with different lyrics. Maya Vik definitely knows her shit to be sampling that.
