I just don't get the pop chart. How can a song be #1 on that and not be #1 on the hot 100...

Isn't any hott 100 #1 going to fall into the category of pop music?

In Billboard USA, the hot 100 singles charts is THE pop charts. It's been that way for decades.

Now the dance charts are another story. These kind of charts have been around since the disco era (then known as the disco charts).

Well, she's #2 on the Hot 100 and up 2 places so she could still get to #1 next week. She's getting alot of airplay on radio which is helping her. I'll give her credit for not being just a one-hit-wonder which was what "I kissed a Girl" sounded like.

Although a first hit in the USA, I Kissed A Girl was actually Katy's second career hit. Her first one was You're So Gay which was a hit in the UK.
