Why Is Katy Perry So Popular?

Look, I'm not a Lady Gaga fan either, but I respect the shit out of her talent far more than Katy Perry, easily. & I love Pop music too, I just don't see her appeal. She's decent looking, but none of her songs [that I've heard] are "all that" to me. I don't get her popularity at all....is it the "Titty's"?

الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

Catchy music + marketable image=Success.

I think "Teenage Dream" is a good pop album. She has some ridiculously catchy songs on there.

However, I don't see Katy lasting in this business long. I don't think she's that talented or interesting enough as an artist or personality to last.

"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

She's garbage, absolute garbage. Her and Bieber's popularity just proves how utterly crap music is today.

Entertainer

Catchy lyrics, good production and easy on the eyes= all the ingredients for teen and prepubescent teens to use their Itune cards to purchase one of her digital singles.

Her popularity on the charts and with singles doesn't match up to her album sales which should really be double what they are now based on her single sales and radio airplay success.

yeahthat

Her albums don't even sell that well, she is a very strong singles artist who will be doing a Tiffany/Debbie Gibson tour with Ke$ha in 25 years.

That being said her songs are impossible not to sing along to.

It's those big white tits of hers. Cause it sure ain't her vocals. Her breth control is terrible, her vibrato is weak as all hell, her range sucks, etc.

She's bubblegum candy "pop"cycle girly fun for me! The new song she has out "last friday night"? when i first heard it i was like "ok Katy i'm a fan but i just cant get with this one", then i was randomly tv serving one day and watched the music video.....tooo funny.....now i get it. I love how she doesnt take her self to seriously and she has a clever sense of humor that she lets come through, which I love seeing in people.

But she is a true artist. Ive seen one of her acoustic concerts and love her raw voice.

Well, when you can not sing that well, you need a particular image in order to be appealing to others so that they can like your music and assume your image by buying all the things you wear or endorse. She does that with her dreadful 50s pin-up, Lolita-esque, candy land, kitten-obsessed style. She has a producer who knows how to make her sound good enough and make the songs catchy enough to not offend anyone or break any boundaries. So empty people buy up all her music and merchandise, to feel a part of something. They believe that since she is so popular and is given so much press she must have good music or be doing something right. That is why she is popular...oh yeah and she has really big BOOBS. Russell Brand is probably suffocating in them right now.

I kind of glanced at something yesterday that said she has made some kind of Billboard history by charting so many songs on some chart. Doesn't take a lot to make Billboard history these days, does it? lol

Identity

She's photogenic and media savvy, but her live singing is retched. I like two songs of hers: "I Kissed A Girl" and "Last Friday Night".

Katy used to be bi-curious. THAT alone made her popular since day 1.

Yeah, it was that faux-bisexual single that made her popular.

I think her looks are of the kind that make it easier for many younger women to identify with her. At least compared to, say, Megan Fox or someone like that. She's just some twenty-something singing catchy pop songs and she apparently likes to have a lot of fun. Not that terribly threatening.

She's like the musical equivalent of Fresita, you know.

This. She's not trying to be this profound "artiste," she doesn't spout flowery words or faux Confucius quotes during every interview/public outing to stroke her own ego, and she's not trying to knock anyone else off of a pedestal in order to be seen as "the best". She's just a 20-something woman singing what I like to call "drunken slut pop." lol She likes to have fun. That's just who she is. Her songs are catchy as hell, too. I can't help but sing along to "Last Friday Night", even though I rolleyes at the lyrics at times.

Honey, stop talking and just create the music.

She is popular because she fits the mold, she also doesnt take herself serious, and she isnt a total trainwreck so u can actually get into her and not have to worry about her driving her career off a bridge

Marketing and publicity $ and a great 5 year plan. Take J-Lo for instance. When she was sliding 2008/9 the plan was set - starting with her leaving Sony. I heard about the Idol plan at least 2 years prior to it happening. I consider J-Lo quite talented and business savy and she can pretty much stand alone now.

All handlers want the same for their artists - but if the talent isn't there it's apparent in only a couple years. Perry can't sing and really hasn't escalated into anything this far and probably won't. Five years from now - you won't hear much Katy Perry.

Can't believe this question is even asked and I think LBC pretty much proves why or at least a main reason WHY she's "popular". lol
