I've never seen this video before, and didn't know it existed. I just remember seeing the Stoney Jackson one all the time. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

LOL at first I just remembered the Stoney one from "Streets of Fire" too. Then I discovered this one with Dan Hartman actually in it. The girl is Joyce Hyser from that '80s comedy "Just One of the Guys". "Get up off that grey line"

'Streets of Fire' was pretty forgettable film but this song will be remembered from it. I must confess I never knew Dan Hartman was a white guy. Also he recorded a disco song 'Instant Replay' I didnt know it was the same guy. He sounds more soulful on this track.

First time I'm seeing this version, too. I often wondered why they had Jackson lip-synching to Dan's vocal in the other video. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

It was from a movie. He was playing the lead singer of a doo wop group. But, it was used as the music video too. I think many people thought the group really sang the song. Similar to Eddie & The Cruisers really being John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.
