Appreciating Songs or Albums AFTER the hype

which songs or albums have grabbed your attention after it's peak of popularity or hype? or even if it wasn't popular, but you didn't quite pay that much attention to it or it didn't grab you the first time around. when you catch yourself saying something like, "damn. that is a really good song!" or "you know. this is an incredible album". so go ahead and give credit where credit's due!

Stevie Wonder - Music of My Mind

For as long as this album has been around, and for as familiar as I have been with most of the songs, I don't ever recall having heard the song "Evil" until about a month ago once I had obtained the remastered version of this CD. Can't believe it's been around all this time and that I'm just now hearing it. It's a great song that I can really relate to today.

Nearly 40 years after it was recorded! How's THAT for appreciating a song AFTER the hype? lol

The Compromise Theory:
Based on my analysis, I believe the government faked the plane crash and demolished the WTC North Tower with explosives.
The South Tower, in a simultaneous but unrelated plot was brought down by actual terrorists.
Is it a deal?

It took me about 17 years to recognize the awesomeness of these songs and the quality of the production. Denise was not the center of attention here and I think that really was my issue with the album.

All of Nirvana's albums. I loved the songs but I didn't think I knew about CD/tape purchases. lol But recently I checked all their studio efforts and they were SLAMMIN'. I'm sure there's more I'm missing out that I'm just starting to investigate. I also love the Buzzcocks' material. thumbs up!

It was a waste of time. Don't bother getting it. The worst tracks were: Human Nature, Billie Jean, Beat It, and P.Y.T. The only good and talented part of that album was LaToya Jackson in P.Y.T. She's a fucking genius. I don't understand how her less talented brother made it bigger than her. Still beats the hell out of me.

If you are looking for something actually good and worth your time I would highly recommend the one below. You won't go wrong. I prmoise.

I'm in love with this at the moment. I don't think it's as good as Stripped or Back to Basics but she definitely went somewhere with this album. Songs like Elastic Love, Desnúdate, Birds of Prey and Monday Morning (even My Girls) are brilliant.

I agree with you. She got so much criticism for this one. It has some strong moments. You already named some of my faves. You Lost Me should have gotten more play. Its sad because she had already started working with the electro sound before GaGa got big. When I heard Back To Basics I told my friends I bet her next one will be techno because she seems to go from one extreme to the next. She started bubblegum then got really sexy. We all know the story.

nod The songs she did for that greatest hits collection were hot and so was that version of Falling in Love Again drool

Can't wait to hear new music from her pray

I appreciated Amy Winehouse more after everybody stopped constantly talking about her. It was something about having her shoved down my throat that made me immediately turn a deaf ear to her initially.

With Alicia Keys it's the opposite; I heard "Falling" like immediately when they first started airing the video on BET, when no one knew about her really and was talking about her, and I loved the song and I was like, "Why is no one talking about this girl?" About a year or two later, she was all over the place and they were playing the song to death and that drove me AWAY from her and her work.

"I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

I feel like I am the only one who loved this disk since the day it came out nearly a year ago. Its been on heavy rotation ever since, its the best album of 2010. Shame nobody listened and only used this project to hate on such a talented artist. rolleyes

Some of the black metal and death metal stuff that a lot of the guys listened to in High School, while I didn't really like it at all then. I was already 24-25 when I started to develop an appreciation for it.

I also thought The Cure was ridiculous, before I actually listened to a full album. That happened a little bit earlier. I got really hooked on this first:

I've also listened to Tricky quite a lot lately. Most everyone seems to have given up on him by this point. This one fits the season:

I am always more appreciative of music when the hype has died down. I think that usually it's the only way to have a clear view and opinion of whats going on.
