I have no idea. It would look forced if they did it now too.

They should have did it well before he passed.

He was considered for a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, but MJ himself made BET give it to James Brown because he thought he believed he deserved it more. They should change gears and give him a posthumous award to make up for those horrendous tributes they've done for him (Chris Brown performance last year included!)

You almost got me in tears watching this again! lol

I was talking about MJ's tributes from '09 three days after his death and that little Chris Brown stunt from last year. Everybody knows that James Brown's tribute/performance was the best BET Award moment ever...

Hell Janet, Tina Turner and George Clinton could be contenders too! You never know with a hot mess show like BET awards. Hell they took so long with annonucing a Lifetime Achievement honoree last year.

BET was gonna induct an older legend but I think they wanted to attract younger audiences so they gave it to Whitney. I forgot who they said was gonna get it before they chose Whitney though. I think it was James Brown but I'm not sure.

Exactly.

Plus, it was the first BET awards show, so they had to attract younger viewers. I mean, it was 2001 for god's sake. Not a good choice agreed, but meh...

I seriously think it's gonna be Aretha this year, considering the stuff she has been going through.

I love me some Earth, Wind and Fire, but how on earth were they the second inductees? Fair enough, Whitney first as she probably had a record out at the time and was still known to younger viewers, but I'd give it to about 30 other people before EWF.

i always love watching this... it warms my heart to see michael in the presence of HIS life's teacher, and to present an award to him for his achievements. how many of us get to be in the presence of those we consider our true teachers?

i consider michael to be mine, and i know i will never get to physically thank him for all he's taught me. so to see this makes me so proud.
