^ I was just listening to the original and remembered Jody's cover, only to see it posted here! I love both!

Jody gives me chills with her videos, voice, songs, etc.

nod

Both are brilliant for different reasons and equally satisfying (to me).

Jody is so very talented and classy and still going strong on so many levels. She's truly an artist worth keeping up with.

OMG!!! I haven't seen the "Some Kind of Lover" video since the '80s. I remember riding the bus to school and listening to Jody's first album on my Walkman (bought the cassette at Woolworth's) and hearing "Still A Thrill" for the first time. That low voice shocked the hell out of me. lol Epic tune. Epic video. Good times! Jody's still got it and then some. This here is among her greatest IMHO:

How is it that she fell out of favor with radio so fast?

There was a lot of factors at play. But I think above all, Jody fell out of favor with MCA. 'Cause let's face it, the public will buy anything if it's pushed in their face and blasted in their earhole enough times. Jody was being pigeonholed as a dance/pop act. When she started releasing more mature, soulful material and ballads, things simply were not getting airplay, at least not in the US pop market. I remember when "Precious Love" was released (after 3 consecutive top ten pop hits from 'Larger Than Life'), MTV refused to play the video because it was a ballad. I forget who it was, but someone actually said that on air. Yet MTV used images from the video in a frequently-played promo spot for their station. Can you image a lame-ass excuse like that being given as reason for not playing a Madonna video? Jody continued to get radio and video play on R&B stations, even after she went independent with her own Avitone label. But it was pretty much all downhill for Jody as a pop star after "Everything".

thank you for this photo!!! they do have a connection though- jeffrey daniel. he was the 'official' person to teach michal the backslide. he did it a year before michael did on television, on top of the pops. daniel also worked on 'smooth criminal', and was in the 'bad' film.

and of course, watley and daniel were in shalamar together. take that to the bank! HA!

I have such respect for Jody as an artist. She does her own thing and does it so smartly and eloquently. She's class personified, IMO. She also shares great insight on pop culture, music and fashion through her blog and on fb.

I can't wait for the upcoming Chameleon. excited

I remember loving Real Love in the 80's when my mom would turn it up on the radio, but I got into more of her other stuff a few years ago, and yes I LOVE that first album!!! She even made me leave janet for a few minutes, and you know I LOVE janet! She's GOOD!

I also love her voice in Still a Thrill, and that Some Kind of Lover video is cute, love the part with the jacket, and her outfits! Remember the George Michael duet?

I like her soooo much! I have all her albums and would love to see her live one day.

I saw some recent pictures that Johnart posted here on the org a while ago, and she still looks very elegant and beautiful, yet still down to earth. She´s such a gorgeous woman. nod fallinluv

Howard Hewitt has done background vocals on songs by Mike, Janet, & LaToya.
