The key difference is all that stuff happened when:

A) Michael was not a multi-millionaire from things that had nothing to do with his family.

and

B) Michael was living at the family home in Encino.

It's easy to forget that even throughout "Thriller" and the recording of "Bad" Michael was still living at home with his family. He didn't buy Neverland until 1988.

Was this arguably the beginning of his downfall, due to being able to retreat into literally his own world and not have to deal with ANYONE if he didn't want to? Perhaps. There's obviously positives to the situation too, but this might be one point of view.

I don't like her. i probably will never like her nor forgive her. But Michael was a very caring and forgiving person. He forgave her a long time ago, as did the family.
