Lily Allen is set to launch her own record label — In the Name Of — with financial backing from Sony Music.

Allen's imprint will release its first record, the debut album by the Brooklyn art pop band Cults. " I think things need to change in the music industry and we need to rethink a lot of stuff," Allen said in 2009. At the time, she joked that her first signings would be "terrible [bands] that work on the radio".

Cults are not typical top 20 fare – the duo are best known for "Go Outside", a lo-fi, reverb-heavy song released last year. The single will be reissued on 20 February, with a debut album to follow in May. Cults will play three dates in London next month.

lets all note the important thing that a major is paying for an indie, which is mostly how most of them function

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Lily will never achieve complete independence with this arrangement. Sony remains connected to the imprint-- and holds the purse strings.
