Kanye to beat MJ's record for longest music video ever.

FORTY MINUTES LONG PEOPLE.

You can see a preview here:

http://kanyewest.com/GOODFridays/

Kanye West is set to release the longest ever music video. The Grammy Award-winning rapper will release a 40-minute epic for his new Runaway single. The music video will be longer by 29 seconds, beating the record of the former title-holder, Michael Jackson's Ghosts, which timed in at 39 minutes and 31 seconds.

West said that the movie will be an ‘Epic piece of art’ based on West’s song debut on September 12 at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, the Herald Sun reported. The song's story is inspired by the entertainer's own story. The story is severely criticized in which a phoenix falls to earth and then burns herself to escape.

CANT WAIT!!!!

MJ's people/Sony should do a press release claiming that all of Moonwalker is, in fact, a music video.

Oh GOD please no disbelief because by then, this fool would go out of his way to shoot a 2 hours music video/so-called short film.

I like Kanye, but everything about dude screams "trying waaaaay too hard".

Patience, and we'll see.

After his long history of self-boasting and big PR hoopla, this shit better break some records or else somebody's jaws gonna get into a frenzy and the crying to the press won't end.

Granted, I still need to see the full version of "Power".

That's a great comment Ernest. LOL

As if the fact that it is longer than MJ's video means that it has any redeeeming qualities.

Oh I sooo wish the media lost interest in this fool.....

Whatever qualities he may have in the studio are so overshadowed by the arrogance and lack of humility he shows whenever he is in front of a microphone that I just wish he would go away fast.......

^^^ He's a talentless bore. It's more hype and press around him than any real talent. Ain't no one humming his songs. It's all about how drunk he is, how he's boo hooing on stage, how he's a prick on stage, how he's constantly boycotting MTV cuz they hate black people. It's like a constant Farewell tour with this guy. He says one thing, and does another, over and over and over. He's a dickbag.

And Ghosts wasn't ever released in America either. I have it on PAL VHS, and have only gotten to watch it via the web or crappy MPGs. How quickly they forget that long form music videos like 3 Chains O' Gold, an alleged "storyline" with a bunch of songs, was released in the US. So it's not the longest music video ever. Ghosts had more than one song in it, so did 3 Chains, and probably others. How is Kanye getting this press? It's bullshit.

From wiki:

College Dropout:

The album debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 441,000 copies in its first week. It was a massive commercial success, producing five singles that achieved chart success. Upon its release, The College Dropout received general acclaim from most music critics and earned West several accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at the 47th Grammy Awards. It is West's best-selling album in the United States, with domestic sales of over 3.5 million copies and worldwide sales of over four million copies. Rolling Stone named it the tenth-best album of the 2000s decade.

Late Registration:

The album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 860,000 copies in its first week. It ultimately sold three million copies in the United States and spawned five singles that attained chart success. Upon its release, Late Registration received general acclaim from most music critics and earned West several accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at the 48th Grammy Awards. It appeared at the top of several publications year-end lists of top albums. Initially naming it the best album of 2005, Rolling Stone ranked the album number 40 on its list of the best albums of the 2000s decade.

Graduation:

The album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 957,000 copies in its first week. The coinciding release dates of Graduation and rapper 50 Cent's Curtis generated much publicity over the idea of a sales competition, resulting in record-breaking sales performances by both albums. Graduation received generally positive reviews from most music critics and earned West several accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. The album has sold 2,966,000 copies in the U.S. and has been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

808s and Heartbreak:

The album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 450,145 copies in its first week, and it produced four singles that attained Billboard chart success. 808s & Heartbreak became his fourth album to sell 1 million copies in the United States and was certified platinum in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America. Despite a divided reaction from music audiences towards West's stylistic change, the album received generally positive reviews from most music critics upon its release. In 2009, Rolling Stone magazine named it the sixty-third best album of the 2000s decade.

Who exactly isn't humming his songs? You?

The funny thing about this is when I read the title I was thinking that "Thriller" holds the record, I had forgotten about "Ghosts" completely. So yeah even though MJ is a legendary artist, the video which holds the record is far from legendary, I think it was just a vanity project with little significance in pop history. So whatever, let one vanity project take the record from another vanity project, it doesn't really matter
