Anita Baker and Ronald Isley to honored at Soul Train Awards

From People Magazine:

Reunited, and it feels so good: Oscar nominees Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard will return to host the 2nd annual Soul Train Awards, airing Nov. 28 on Centric.

"You will see our chemistry come alive on television," Henson, 40, tells PEOPLE, while Howard, 41, adds: "You're going to see what friends are about. Soul Train represents family. She tells me I remind her of her daddy, and I tell her she reminds me of my favorite aunt. This is my family."

The program will honor R&B legends Anita Baker, 52, and Ronald Isley, 69, and Henson hints that she may surprise viewers with a few numbers herself. "

As for their duties that night, Howard says, that hosting "feels like hitting the lotto. I think a big part of my genetic culture is Soul Train. We still dance the way we saw them dance on the show. People are watching us participate in what has become a part of our dream."

"As a child, you watch television and you're like, 'I want to be on that stage one day.' Well, the show was canceled before we could get up there, so to be hosting and have that dream come true is incredible," says Henson.

And her fondest memory of the iconic show? "Anytime the Jackson Five were on there performing, I never missed it. I also love when Minnie Riperton sat on a stool and sang 'Lovin' You.' I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. And of course the soul train line!"

"Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I hope they have a budget this year because that throwaway 106 and Park set for last year's ceremony was horrible.

falloff Anita is duller.

Actually, Anita is even duller than Shitney Houston. It's Shitney that I can't stand though because before someone like her, folks like Anita and others would be pushed to the back burner because funk would have been outselling them. lol

There are soo many beautiful colors in this world, to be soo damn narrow minded is a shame. And if you don't like it, just turn the fucking channel. The world's too short to have soo invest that much negative energy in something one doesn't like.

You're such the drama queen lol

There's nothing wrong with Andy's stance. Some people view it strongly like him, others like yourself are more accepting toward different styles. Thats what human beings are all about, differences.

I don't agree with him 90% of the time, but its ludicrous & condescending to slam his views as negative or narrow minded simply because I don't identify with them.

Continually spewing rhetoric against something you don't like is wasting negative energy IMHO and it's narrow minded and straight up rude to those who appreciate it. And you know we aren't talking a simple, "i don't like it". Its a bunch of drivel about this and that being shit and crap. It's straight up childish. And after years of reading the shtick, I think I've earned the right to counter the foulness.

yeahthat Plus he happens to be that type of motherfucker to shake his ass. If there's anything that doesn't get his ass to shake it or find some dick, he's gonna say it sucks so I don't know if arguing against it would be that necessary. lol

Simple. They have the choice to either co-sign, challenge or put the shit on mental block altogether shrug

Censoring one's opinion by using the good ol' "spewing negative energy" argument as smoke & mirrors is the easy way out. This is orgville my friend, not exactly a positivity haven, lets not be selective on who should shut his piehole and who should remain raising hell.

Ohh because resorting to "this is shit-hop and crap" on broken record is such a worthy contribution to the debate. If the broken record doesn't stop, I have just as every right to clown on the childish behavior as he has for continually dissing on music that other's appreciate. After all, this is orgville, not exactly a postivity haven, right?

You never know.

Even though his views are sometimes radical, he sure gave me a different perspective, and to be honest? Many times they're valid and I personally understand his reasoning for feeling this strong about it.

Does it get redundant? I'm sure, even for him. Andy is like the org's George Carlin, tirades for days and each time its funny lol I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm being a hypocrite for giving ol' dude a pass for having a crazy sense of humor.

hug Thank you.

I have friends that like all kinds of music that I don't like....shit hop, neo stool, adult contemporary, classical, etc. There are very few people that like only what I like and nothing else and that's fine because, hell, that's what makes me...me...and believe me honey, I am THE one and only Andy. And besides, if everyone else was a carbon copy of me, I could no longer be the baddest of the bad because everyone else would be just as bad as me. lol

But anyway, as long as my friends, family, and acquaintances share similar views as I do on important things such as racism, homophobia, and violence, we get along just fine. I shit on their music constantly to their face and they shit on mine also. Hell, that's just different taste. There's more important shit that keeps us friends instead of being a little whiney asses worrying that someone doesn't have a huge and wide diversity in taste in music. And besides, there's a good side to not being extremely diverse also. It keeps the genres hard and free of being weakened and watered down by other genres that are weak. lol

Turn the channel to what? There's nothing good on any of the other channels either, that's the problem. But you know, the same thing can be said that if you don't like a post, scroll on past the motherfucker and don't "invest negative energy in something one doesn't like". evillol

I like a little country also. It's fun to throw in a country song by surprise when you have company to get a good laugh and also, I like to play country continuously sometimes when I want to get rid of an unwanted pest who came over uninvited and wants to freeload. See....every form of music has a purpose. lol
