If American Idol producers fail to nab either Jennifer Lopez or Shania Twain as a judge, there’s one other singer they might be able to score: Mariah Carey.

According to America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon, his wife would actually be interested in the position.

“You know what? [Mariah] talks about it,” Cannon said about a hypothetical job offering. “She says, ‘I would love to do that.’ She is one of the greatest singers of our time; she would be great. I don’t know if she has enough time, though, but if they could work with her schedule, I know she would love to do Idol. Let’s start the campaign!

many times i have heard "the auditions with all the freaks is the best part", especially as the seasons wear on.

yeah im sure if we looked at the ratings, the ratings for the first few episodes (the freak ones) is what gets the bigger numbers. No one even knows who is the winner anymore, plus its meaningless. They had their Carrie Underwood already, close up shop its over.

Unless they had Michael Jackson as a judge long ago but dude is gone , no way anyone would watch otherwise.

I'm not sure how available Mariah would actually be to work on American Idol; isn't she about five or six months pregnant now? Then again, the auditions would be occurring now, and the Hollywood auditions would be happening sometime in October, which would be presumably before her due date, and the live semifinals wouldn't begin until February, which would give her some time to adjust to the rigorus schedule of motherhood.

Yes, I know you all want Idol to die, and without Simon Cowell the show will not be the same. I know when they fired Kara they got rid of one of the actual people who know the music business extensively, so I'm not quite sure who they will get to replace her in that role.

As for Mariah, I'm curious why Nick Cannon is lobbying to get his wife on American Idol when he's working for Simon Cowell on America's Got Talent? I would think that he should be trying to get her on the U.S. version of The X Factor next year.

It isn't the same without Paula, let alone Simon Cowell, but now it's just impossible.

Nah... American Idol never had a judge who could actually sing (except for Carrie). Mariah is too big for this. Plus, she's too nice. I can't see her seriously judging someone's singing.

American Idol isn't dead, yet! It's rating are so much higher than most of the other shows on TV that it will at least get through this next season, and possibly the next. If the ratings pick up it would clearly stick around longer than that.

Mariah? Eh... I don't know. I would rather have seen J-Lo do it. I've rarely (if ever) seen Mariah speak in a way that I believed was genuinely her voice. It always seems like a put on.

I'm one of those auditions only people, though. Since they started showing weeks and weeks of auditions (don't think they did that at the beginning, maybe?), that's all I watch. It's actually kind of nice to NOT be able to respond when somebody says something about the contestant(s) they like. "Oh. I don't watch. Don't know who anybody is."

Rumor has it that J-Lo screwed Tommy Mottola for tracks. Mottola gave J-Lo some of Mariah's tracks because his sorry ass wants to destroy her career. J-Lo has been involved in extra-marital affairs, so she obviously doesn't care about stealing tracks. I guess Nick thinks if MC can get this job, then it will be a slap in the face for both of them.

A lotta stars have fucked for tracks and things far worst than that for the matter. American Idol sucks badly. She shouldn't waste her time with it because her career isn't all that now either.

I was answering someone else's question. MC doesn't need the money, but she may accept the job just to rub it in J-Lo's face. She may also do it so her old ass ex-husband can see her pregnant belly. Since he spends so much time hatin on MC, I'm sure he's going nuts because she married a young, virile, black guy.
