I'm always going to rock her first album!

Fallin' is a hard song to sing.

Her second album was amazing too!

She's decent. Better than a lot of what's out there.

If you look at the musical landscape today, Alicia is head and shoulders above everyone else, but considering what passes for talent these days, that isn't saying much.

Id rather here her stretch on vocals because im not a fan of slick ass production and re-doing vocals and layering vocals, to me thats why so many singers dont tour, they dont know how to

She just goes right over my head, apart from a handfull of songs I find her quite the snoozefest!!

but when you compare her to what is being paraded as talent today ill give her a nod (very slight one though)

'Do you think Alicia Keys is a good singer?'

No. She's not terrible, but I wouldn't call her good. For whatever reason she insists on singing far beyond her range. I still can't understand why 'No One' was such a big hit. That bitch's voice on that song made me wanna go out and kill babies and cats. fuse Someone in another thread made an interesting point about her singing. They said that it didn't make sense why she, as a musician, can't seem to find and stay in the right key vocally. They pointed out that usually a person who can play an instrument is the first one to find and stay in key.

She starts to sing very flat for the range of notes in the last third of this video. Those pitches should have question marks starting around the 2:00 mark.

But she is very good at emoting, or at least sounding genuine, which I think is what most ears tend to favor.

No, I don't. But she seems to think so. And that's why we can't be friends.

She's a good singer if you don't particularly care for good singers.

Alicia Keys is an average singer. She can improve vocally if her boss Clive Davis would just back off and stop trying to get this girl to be " poor man's Whitney Houston on the piano" all the damn time.

Yeah, I said it.

I can play several instruments but couldn't stay in key if my life depended on it.

You know, Dave Bowie isn't that great in that respect either...

What's my point of bringing up David Bowie? Bowie sings off-key all the time and you have his picture as your avatar. Being a little hypocritical there, aren't we?

I think that's how her singles become hits, yes.

Whether it's the "oh! OH! AHHHIIIIII!!!" from Fallin

or

the "You can be SHOO OOH WHOA" from No One

she's putting everything she's got into those lines. Usually the ones with the worst "takes" but the ones that are kept anyway because it sounds like conviction.

All the time? No. He just has a distinctive tone rolleyes and how am I being hypocritical? neutral

I'm asking if ALICIA KEYS is a good singer. I didn't ask for your input on David Bowie. He sings songs that are fitting for his voice unlike Flat Keys. Who like TonyVanDam pointed out - tries to sing like Whitney Houston in her prime.

biggrin
