The Main Difference Between Madonna and Lady Ga Ga?

Madonna was wild, yes, but her style of re-invention was old school cool. She came up with these grand themes for each project and projected it onto the world until the end of the project.

Lady Ga Ga and other Madonna wannabe's don't understand that concept of re-invention. Their idea of it is to radically change from one song to the next. In Ga Ga's case it is to change numerous times within the same performance. The message comes off as confusing. You look at it and scratch your head.

I like Ga Ga a lot but this is my criticism of her.

My vision for the video would've been a bunch of girls in a club, being annoyed by the guys because all the girls want to do is dance. Boring? Maybe. But the message is clear. Ga Ga isn't David Lynch.

I'll just say that i love the Queen of Pop.

Madonna is a cultural icon, the most successful female artist of all time, the most famous woman in the world... Gaga just put out her 1st album less than 2 years ago. The comparison doesn't make any sense. Compare Gaga 25 years from now to Madonna now.

However- Young Madonna vs Gaga now- Gaga is the clear winner imo. Her act is more polished, she's a much better singer, trained pianist, her stage set ups r more thought out. She's way more advanced than Madonna was at this stage...

... But one could argue she's this way because Madonna came before her. Madonna did push those boundaries back in the day...

Stupid comparison, sorry. Compare Gaga with ppl her age and on her level. Like Beyonce and Britney, Pink, Christina. Madonna is on a whole nother level.

Madonna had to resort to those gimmicks because back then there was more emphasis on singing talent and she just wasn't up to par.

Gaga has to resort to gimmicks because these days there's little emphasis on talent and people only care about beauty or gimmicks.

Bowie just looks so hot with this type of hair-do. Love it.

OK David Bowie is a good example of old school re-invention. He had his Ziggy Stardust period, his Thin White Duke period, even his Tin Machine period.

Even Prince had distinguishable eras.

Ga Ga, though very fun (maybe that's the most important thing) is VERY hodge podge-y. I believe her whole thing has something to do with our dangerous facsination with fame? At least that's part of it. Maybe her new video is making a point that video has a tradition of having NOTHING to do with the subject of the song?

If so she ain't the first one to do that.

The "maybe" is in reference to the fact that this topic has been beated to death (I naively had no idea).
The "or not" is in reference to the cool reception.

Here is a quote from Gaga about the "Telephone" video:

"In a way, the video is an attempt for her and I (Beyonce) to erase pop music as we know it up until this very point. It’s meant to change the perspective of the world on what a pop music video should be and she’s kind of the vehicle for that."

This is the problem I have with her. This bitch really believes that she's innovative. She hasn't created or changed shit. The things that she's done have already been done before. I remember someone in another thread said that Gaga critics take her too seriously. But she takes herself far too seriously. From the pretentiousness to calling her own shit a "masterpiece." rolleyes She sings pop songs about taking a ride on a disco stick, but she acts as if she's saved lives. Girl, have a seat.

And as for "change the perspective of the world on what a pop music video should be." Um, she's about 25 years too late.

Well said that man!

And Madge may not be a great singer / pianist / whatever...but at least she's had the good grace to go through her music career with a little tongue in cheek and ability to recognise that what she creates is not in the "masterpiece" category, just superb dance and pop music.
