Some of it. The rest are hair pieces.

How do you know that?

Pete Hammond's daily dose of awards season news and views
Notes on the town: Does Michael Jackson still have a chance?

Stuff heard around town this week.....

At BAFTA LA's lively annual Christmas party on the UCLA campus the talk turned to award season, of course, and surprisingly, Michael Jackson. A couple of Oscar voters there told me they intend to include the Jackson rehearsal documentary, "This Is It" on their list of 10 when they get their ballots next week. As one person said, it may not be so unusual a best picture choice as you might think.

"For me it's about the creative process. You really get to see the passion and the work that goes into creating something like this. It was quite inspiring to watch," he said.

Certainly right from its overwhelmingly positive response at a rare capacity official academy screening on the afternoon of Nov. 1 where long-time members have reported they never heard such a spontaneous cheering response at the final credits ran, the film has maintained buzz within the academy even as pundits have dismissed its nomination chances for best picture as a pipe dream.

Variety's Peter Bart, also a long-time Oscar voter who was at that Nov. 1 screening, announced last week on his new Encore TV series, "In the House" that he definitely "had a place for 'This Is It' "on his best picture ballot.

Sony consultants told me their subsequent awards screenings for the film have also been well-received and that's encouraged the studio to ramp up its campaign including last Monday's pricey Variety cover touting the film for Best Picture, Director (Kenny Ortega), Film Editing, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.

One naysaying person (an academy voter) told me flat out it won't happen. He couldn't imagine a movie , not even in existence as an idea last June (before Jackson's death) could possibly have a shot.

But.....

When I first wrote about the movie here in October I too dismissed the prospect entirely by saying "Best Picture? C'mon beat it." Now, call me crazy, but after seeing the genuine continuing enthusiasm within the academy I'm beginning to feel it's legitimate.

I know I'm late to the party, but I just saw it tonight. Nothing more to add that hasn't been said already. Just wish I could have seen Michael complete this vision, it would have been spectacular! His money woes would have been resolved, and he would have been on good footing for the rest of his life. Rest peacefully Mike, I miss you even more now.

I'm listening to the DVD-audio right now. Why, oh, why wasn't this the companion CD for the movie? It actually forms a fairly cohesive concert soundtrack.

I didn't see the movie, and instead decided to wait for the DVD, because I didn't want to be a blubbering mess in a theater. I'm way late with this, but I'm blown away at how good Michael sounds. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm listening to a performance from 2009 and not the Bad tour! The difference between This Is It and the 2001 MSG concerts is stunning. These concerts weren't going to be just some half-assed money-grab. He was really putting his heart and soul into this project. He was on the cusp of coming back and it makes what happened all the more tragic. cry

But he seemed to be wearing wigs only in the last couple of years and not in the 80´s or 90´s.

He wore a hair piece in the late 80's due to his hair loss from the Pepsi incident, which he's stated in past interviews

I don't think you can grow hair back
once the skin cells have been damaged.

I have a cut on my left eyebrow that
required stiches when I was 5. I'm
42 and hair has hasn't grown there
since.

but check out Randy, Marlon, and Jermaine's hair from '82-86. Them shits were a mess lol

Jermaine's curl didn't even blow in the wind or move at all lol

Some of it. The rest are hair pieces.

According to the medical reports at his death, he was completely bald when he died, his scalp was covered with a soft downy hair. Well thats what Sky news reported.
So they were all wigs. I remember seeing the net/mesh on his hairline for years, and wondering why it hadn't been photoshopped and why he was wearing full wigs.
Have you seen the footage of the pepsi accident? I saw it a while back and was shocked to see how much of his scalp actually went up in flames. poor thing.

When I think of all the work he went to just to cover up his flaws, I realize the guy must have been miserable. No wonder he was a recluse, he was probably scared to death of falling apart in public, lol. As rich and world famous as he was, it makes me feel sad for him. Feel a little sad also that so many of his "secrets" have been revealed since his death, I'm sure he would have rather kept them to himself.

Well, the autopsy record you are talking about was pronounced false. It also claimed he had a detachable nose.lol Then, there was another one which claim he had some hair plus some tatoos in the areas with less hair and that record was not commented on as far as I know so we don´t know if it was real or not, but it seemed more realistic.

That was the fake report. The real one say he had some minor hair loss at the front (he was 50) and damage where the commercial accident happened

I saw the video of the accident, it was at the top of his head nod
Alot of people made jokes about it for years and when they finally saw it, it was a different story neutral
