'Michael Jackson's This Is It' DVD To Hit Shelves On January 26
Concert documentary will feature an hour of extra footage on DVD, even more on Blu-Ray.

First, Michael Jackson fans couldn't wait for the "Michael Jackson's This Is It" documentary to begin its limited run in theaters around the globe. Then, even before it hit thousands of screens, they began clamoring for a DVD release date of the final artistic statement from the self-proclaimed King of Pop.

That wish was granted over the Thanksgiving weekend, when Sony Pictures announced that "This Is It" will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on January 26. According to Home Media Magazine, the DVD version will include an hour of extra footage in the form of featurettes on the making of the film, costumes, dancer auditions and the performers' memories of Jackson. The Blu-Ray will contain that footage, plus an additional half hour that includes alternate versions of videos of "Smooth Criminal" and "Thriller."

"This Is It" was originally scheduled for a two-week limited run in theaters, with hopes of a DVD version in stores by Christmas. But due to the popularity of the movie and complaints from theater owners that the Christmas release window was too soon, the run was extended by a month and the DVD release was pushed back, according to the Los Angeles Times. The film has taken in more than $70 million at the U.S. box office since opening on October 28.

In other "This Is It" news, the film did not make it onto the short list of 15 films eligible for Best Documentary Oscar nominations, because it was not released before the September 30 deadline for that category. But it is reportedly still a potential contender in other categories, including Best Picture.

I swear they are driving me mad the MJ forums seem to be full of all these people who joined after June and are all so I love him so much, and take offence if you ask why they werent members before. I think its a bad sign when they havent even heard of the Invincible album or anything before Off the Wall

This one is worse http://community.livejour...hamone_mj/

I like to be around the fans who were there from the start or the ones who got into him a little later on not the ones who just became fans this year ..lol

Haha oh my, I'm a member there, I'm viewing it right now. There are some old fans there but I do agree, the newer ones get on my nerves. There was one who even admitted to telling pedophile jokes in the past I was like eek eek

Top 10 Moments of 2009: #1 Michael Jackson 'This Is It'

Michael Jackson There is something to be said for inspiring millions in life but even more so after death. The shocking passing of the man many call the ‘Greatest to ever do it’ and the King of Pop is still a tender subject even as we close out a year full of economic woes, political battles, controversial music and videos and iconic comebacks. Ironically Michael Jackson, like Whitney Houston, was poised for a return to the stage and essentially a final bow that for him was a way to not just provide the fans he loved with music, a phenomenal stage show (as only he could do), and a historic venue to do it in, but a chance to once and for all rise above the idiosyncrasies of modern society and in true MJ fashion, inspire and rejuvenate our hearts.

Kicking off 2009 with a plan to return to the stage via ‘This Is It,’ a historic concert series at London’s O2 arena, Michael Jackson set out to, as he had done in years past with “Heal The World,” “Man In the Mirror” and “Earth Song,” touch hearts and minds. Tapping the best dancers, musicians, and other talent from around the world, Jackson pieced together a show that would unbeknownst to him be seen worldwide. While his vision never reached its intended venue in July of 2009, the vision eclipsed music and pop culture posthumously. Even bigger after death as some would say, Michael Jackson ruled music in 2009. Everything from “Thriller” to “Number Ones” and all other efforts in between flew off shelves and into the hands of not just a nation but the world shortly after his death. Collectively dancing to the beat of “P.Y.T.,” “Bad,” “Smooth Criminal” and as you know the list goes on, not a single neighborhood, corner or landmark was silent when the King of Pop made his final bow. While the circumstances surrounding his death were disturbing, the truth is they pale in comparison to the legacy the King of Pop left behind. No matter where you turned in 2009, you found friends, neighbors, relatives, business associates and others with one thing in common – Michael Jackson. As never seen before, neighborhoods and communities came together by the hundreds and thousands to celebrate the life of Jackson. From Los Angeles to Indiana and St. Louis to Tokyo, Michael Jackson’s music, legacy, and vision came true. Even if just for a few days, weeks or hours the world and people, despite race, color, sexuality, and creed came together as one.

As we have now seen with “This Is It,” the documentary, Michael Jackson remained true to his craft up to his final hours on this earth. Even with the jokes, allegations, trials and the scorching words often thrown at him over the years, Jackson looked beyond the surface and saw a need to not just entertain but to use his gift to help others. Perhaps the greatest lesson learned with the shocking and still hard to come to terms with death of Jackson is that we must look beyond the surface when dealing with one another. Yes, beauty and certain looks are often touted as being supreme but when the curtain closes and you take a final bow, as did Jackson, the imagery of beauty fades. What is left however is your story. No matter how muddied it may be or how many trials and tribulations you went through in life, your story from beginning to end serves as inspiration for others and perhaps as a cautionary tale. Perhaps Reverend Al Sharpton said it best when he told the late King of Pop’s children during a televised memorial “There was nothing strange about your daddy. It was strange what your daddy had to deal with but he dealt with it".

I think it was all about giving fans little bonuses.

For example - Heal The World is actually a demo version not the final version.
The Heal The World girl (reprise) with Love Michael was perhaps the way the live show would have ended with that being projected on the screens.
And the added takes from Human Nature were just a little reward for sticking the way through the credits.

Swa

I remember someone involved with the film said the scenes after the credits would blow you away and I was just like confused

I think the little girl was put there so you think she survived, since in the Earth Song performance it looks like the tractor killed her.

And the butterfly lived also because the butterfly was in her hair, when she turned around. biggrin Beautiful ending.

my opinions of MJJC werent great before he started the 'Gold Membership' they havent improved now. As previously mentioned everyone is cashing in whilst they can, what annoys me most is the majority of those items were uploaded by other fans to share for free I dont get why he thinks he should be able to charge for access to something which wasnt his in the first place disbelief

Firstly, its a bit spinal tap, isn't it? I thought it was a bit cheesy when I saw the crude CGI rendering in This is it, now I think that even more..

And secondly how the hell were they gonna get that ready in time for the first o2 show?, that was just a mock up with no hydraulics moving parts etc etc...

dubious..

On a positive note just ordered the MJ Opus which looks great!(and isn't covered in alligator skin)..

That's the reaction many of the uploaders and people who were regulars in the section.....and they got banned

If you disagreed, Gary and smooth.criminal.1987 would either give you some smart ass reply, delete it, or ban you permanently

So many of those downloads were uploaded by people who took alot of time to upload, improve, and share FOR FREE, but Gary messed that up and he's saying he' doing it because MJJC needs money to stay online

We know if it was said, fans would've donated loads to help the site out, but I think he's hiding behind the excuse to charge fans.

Then he said "Other forums charge people to access the download sections" and that's a bold face lie. King Of Pop Discussion, MaxJax, Jackson5abc, and even mjjforum.it don't charge fans

I would post his explanation but it was in the 2000 Watts section and it's invisible to members who didn't pay lol

Here's one member who disagreed
Why??
And the worst thing is that also who wants to share something with the others has to pay!
It's really stupid. I don't like it. We are in a community! This is not a shopping centre or HMV! We should share things together, without walls between us! I would never expect this from you.
But I had to imagine it when I've seen one of the banners in the home page: "Michael Jackson we miss you!".. And what was under? "From 2,99 £! [something like that]".
Money..

It's not nice. And all members who have uploaded something should decide.

here's Gary's response
You having a laugh with me, community you blab community wtf, you have been here for nine months you have 67 posts and 99% of those are in the 2000 watts forum you have posted 3 posts in six months and two of those are today about 2000 watts closing WTF.

Your selfish piggybacking of a place I am paying a shit ton of money for ends as of today.

Go and use someone else's house as your personal download area, cos in MJJC are fans of Michael who are a community who talk actively in every other forum every single damn day.

Oh and the thread you placed I'd also noticed yet more 30 to 40 poster somethings, one OMFG one even said goodbye forum and he didnt have a single post count.

Simple fact for MJJC to survive now that Michael has left us I need to ensure it has enough coming in to pay for everything and our ability to add to the services to keep us all living Michael's Legacy

Without any of that MJJC will be DEAD.

Jackson film rakes in over $250 million worldwide

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Sony Pictures on Thursday said global ticket sales for its movies have neared $3.4 billion, beating a studio record with a range of films such as Michael Jackson's "This Is It," which raked in more than $250 million worldwide.

The Jackson film, which was put together from video footage of the late pop star rehearsing for a series of concerts that would have taken place had he not died in June, debuted in theaters in late October and ended its run outside the United States this week with $180 million internationally, Sony said.

The movie finishes its domestic -- United States and Canada -- run on Thursday night, where it already has generated some $72 million, according to ticket sales tracker Boxofficemojo.com.

Sony Pictures Entertainment, a unit of giant Sony Corp, said it had raked in a total of $3.357 at global box offices as of Wednesday, surpassing the studio's own previous box office record of $3.334 billion.

In domestic markets, Sony said its box office total has reached $1.37 billion, while in international markets the total will surpass $2 billion after this coming weekend.

Helping fuel the studio's record year have been current hit "2012," which has earned $620 million worldwide, thriller "Angels and Demons," surprise sci-fi smash "District 9," and action-filled "Terminator Salvation."
