why do so many people like Metal?

What's the appeal of Metal? You can't dance to it, it's sooo fast, hard and loud, it's seems as if you can't fully appreciate the rhythms or melody or chord progressions.
Did Prince ever deny he had sex with his sister? I believe not. So there U have it..

For the same reasons people enjoy rap, Metal isn't my thing, but country isn't a lot of people's thing, and rap isn't a lot of people's thing.

Metal doesn't usually float my boat but as I understand, one might be impressed at how fast those riffs are played.

And apparently it isn't about dancing, it's about ---> headbang

well it depends what type of metal.

listen to some Saxon if you want some true metal! This song has one of the nastiest chords ever heard in a metal song! Makes you want to chop up some demons right now!!

It's a crime to corner King's X in the Metal category.
They're so much more than that.

It's also a crime how ignored they are.

Some metal, I think you can dance to. AC/DC's Back in Black for example. If this doesn't make you get off your ass and move, you're dead!!!

See I wouldn't consider them Metal. Hard Rock would be my take.

Now I find the loud, grinding guitars a lot more appealing than dull Indie rock for instance. There's nothing I find more insipid than some blokes strumming away over and over again singing a little tune but not actually playing one other than the odd key change. Hard Rock and Metal at the very least is actually played with some heart.

Agreed, I love metal, I can't stand boring middling indie rock.

listen to the rhythms and the riffs and the great harmonies in the slow part
they were outstanding musicians , they weren't just making a bunch of noise

My 2 elder brothers are metal heads headbang, so my poor mum had to live with Prince on one room and guitar classic metal on the next one lol (not to mention my neighbours).

Metal goes from AOR, hard rock to more extreme stuff, and sometimes you find real musicians, like one of my top bands

- even metal fans can't stand a 4-minute wall of noise!

I love AC/DC, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Quiet Riot, Kiss, etc. I don't know if those are considered metal or just hard rock but those are the type that I like. Maybe they're just hard rock because I have heard some horrible groups that sound like just a bunch of loud guitars playing with no real beat and a bunch of screaming where you can't understand a word they say. The type that makes me visualize flames from hell. Maybe that's metal, I don't know. lol

I remember when "Turbo Lover" came out, my metal friends were complaining Judas Priest went disco. lol

Listening to it again now, it is indeed very dancey. hmmm

I like some kinds of metal/hard rock a lot: Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Pre-Turbo Lover Judas Priest lol

Back in the day your average metalhead really turned me off though. Not that bright, and way more conformist than they realized. Gotta have the dirty jean jacket with band names written on with a Sharpie, the stupid bandana and the metallica shirt! It was a code not to be deviated from.

I must be getting old because I actually do consider today's metal "devil music". Seriously. neutral
