out of curiousity, why do you think it's cheesy??? Its just all stereotypical things thrown into a lyric. Im not a fan of these type of songs, people already are putting this shit on their shirts and ringtones and bullshit like that. I always say, stay far away from gimmicky songs like this. Some people say this song is motivational, but thats crap. Its cheesy in the way Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" is and always was, its written to be cheesy, its a total cash in, not saying its wrong but thats what it is. So i dont wanna hear Jay saying he was inspired by NYC, because he's talking out of his ass on that. Don't ge me started on how nightlife was killed since late 90's Aside from that the big Apple still stands  People do realize that over 70% of the people in New York itself, were not born in NYC, im talking the city itself not the boroughs. But give it time and as the rents in Brooklyn are now skyrocketing u will soon see the same in the boroughs. Im saying that Jayz did this to get into that anthem cheesy category.
