Yep,..like I posted last week some time on the thread about Tito, Jermaine was killin' on the bass when he was with the Jackson 5. He and Tito both had to play rather complexed parts that James Jamerson and Wah Wah Watson and Dennis Coffey recorded on the J5's albums. James Jamerson was one of the best bassists of all time and he's the one playing bass on the album version of "I Wanna Be Where You Are". Jermaine here is staying true to Jamerson's bassline but is really throwing down some extra quite fluid licks of his own. Great example of Jermaine's playing, especially when he was so young.

Jermaine based his early solo career largely off of Graham Central Station. Especially when Jermaine as a solo artist played live as he's doing here. The J5's early shows often included Sly and the Family Stone's song "Stand", so there was no way Jermaine wasn't going to be hip to Larry Graham's bass style. Graham Central Station was very popular, especially among other younger musicians. Jermaine had put in his work doing a ton of touring with the J5 so he had long since had his chops down. Every musician knows that Jermaine ALWAYS could slang on the bass. But yeah, this clip ^^^ always have reminded me of GCS. Even Jermaine's hair style is evoking Larry's do at that time!

And this is why I will never figure out why dude is not out htere touring. vocally, he graduated from the the School of Marvin. On the bass, as black has stated, he was in the senior class at the school of Jamerson and interned at the Graham Academy. In music business, hell he learned fom his dad and father-in-law. Jermaine never should have stopped touring or making records as a solo artist. He should have opened himself up to other genres and roles in the business. Marcus Miller, LaFace and Reid...he could have done similar.

I've often wondered if construction of a red lightsaber takes place before you can become a Republican, or is it something you do after initiation. Dah, well...

That's why I'm upset with him. Jermaine's got TALENT, the fuck doesn't he use it. He can play bass, he can sing as smooth as his mentor, the hell happened to him?

His lil brother and sister is what happened to him. Made his ass too scared to get on stage by himself and do his music. He could have sold consistently doing music that suited his style, or made millions as a record company exec.

Where's soulalive with the tracklist for the Jermaine shows that are never gonna happen?
