Here is the ironic thing about this track. This was written during MJ's "Bad" period. Teddy was supposed to work on "Bad", but for some reason, Michael backed out. This was one of the tracks written for those sessions.

Funny that you mentioned "Bad", I hear alot of "written with MJ in mind" influence in there. But if you could notice the difference between Teddy's production on this song and on "Dangerous", in fact if you notice the difference between "Dangerous" and the rest of Teddy's produced material at the time, you'll find the latter abit slicker. Mike seemed more comfortable with slick materials as opposed to the raw ones,,,,,not that its a bad thing though.

Still, I loved what Mr.Q did with "Bad".

Yeah and Johnny Kemp sounded MJ-esque in the track.

I never knew that. I just remember Keith Sweat talking about this song on his DVD and saying that it was supposed to be on his "Make It Last Forever" album, but somehow, it didn't make the album and they gave it to Johnny Kemp. I can't find the video on youtube of the interview, but here's the performance.

as bigger a fanbase and a career as Keith Sweat has and as "thick" as kemp is, kemp has 100% stage presence than sweat. Poor guy is a dead log on stage. lol

I don't know about y'all, but this song is a prime example of "they don't make songs like this anymore". I have not heard this in a while, and I was bumpin' in my chair!. I could hear MJ singing this, in my head however, this was Johnny's song!

Keith co-wrote and or co-produced it with Teddy, I believe.

That's what they stated on the DVD, but the song is credited to
GRIFFIN GENE
HALL AARON ROBIN III
KEMP JONATHAN J
RILEY EDWARD THEODORE

I guess Keith went uncredited on this one to get the record deal or something.

I'm sure there had to be something behind him not getting writing credit.

WHY DO PEOPLE LIE THIS SONG WAS NEVER INTENDED FOR MICHAEL JACKSON, Teddy wasn't even on Michael's radar during Bad Teddy was barely making it doing hip hop. JESUS CHRIST i understand people like Michael but don't lie, Michael only started working with Teddy when he saw the success of Bobby Brown, and the that sound exploded. We all like Michael but Teddy wasn't even thinking of Mike at the time, Aaron, Teddy and Keith wrote the song that was from them sing a tune about winning money at the gambling spots.

You may be right about the MJ part, but Teddy had exploded pretty big by 86. By the time 87 rolled around, Teddy was all over the radio with Kool Moe Dee, Heavy D, Keith Sweat, Guy, etc.

I believe Teddy had already started producing around 86 and 87 but
Guy's debut album wasn't released until 88.

According to Discogs, Teddy has been producing since 85. He blew up with Kool Moe Dee's stuff, then Heavy D, then Keith Sweat. The discrophy is off a bit, but you get a good idea of his track record.

No. Just saw an interview with Teddy, and he specifically said that he was called upon to work on "Bad", but the deal fell through, Teddy had 10 songs ready for the session. One of those songs was indeed "Just Got Paid. I know of what I speak of and I don't not like being called a liar.

I don't know if I understand what New Jack Swing is lol I hear it applied to different songs that, to me, don't sound like the same genre. Of course, I cannot think of any examples neutral But I find myself going Oh! That's new Jack Swing?!!!??!

lol

But yeah, that is a cool song nod

Incidently one of the first song's that he produced was, "The Show", by Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick.

NJS was pretty much a "style" of r&b that started in the mid-80s. The heart of NJS is mostly a beat and keyboard instrumentation. Teddy is the architect of the style, but a lot of people group Jam and Lewis and LA and Face in it. However, it was mostly Teddy that is credited with "creating" the style. Prime examples:

Anything post Michael's death can't be held to be truth, Teddy had no songs for Michael before 1990, Michael wasn't working with some no name producer who was barely making hip hop records. I have an interview with Teddy from 1991 talking bout Dangerous LP, and trust me Teddy wasn't sounding like working with Michael was some holy ground that he does now.

This was an interview that was done last year, before his death. He was interviewed for the show "Extra". Teddy has done more than one interview and the topic of Michael has come up often. There is also the transcript from that interview online. I love how some of you all are finding this fact so difficult to believe.

"Georgia" Gene Griffin should have NEVER gotten any credit for that song OR any other song by Guy, Keith Sweat, & Bobby Brown at all. rolleyes disbelief He never wrote one lyric OR composed one note.

That dude was nothing but a con artist that only got credit because Teddy & Aaron made a fatal mistake of hiring him as their manager, not knowing anything about his crime connections beforehand.

On a side note, Marion "Suge" Knight was inspired by the business tactics of Georgia Gene as well.
