I would think it's from the BSN tour.

I remember reading a Billboard article that the label is going to release the Umplugged show on dvd in the near future but I think the current tour will have its own dvd as well...

^ Yep, I think they'll release catalog items like that. They should also release a DVD of all his music videos.

Regarding the album.
I'm underwhelmed.
I think it's his weakest release to date.

All 5 of his albums are good(including the "Unplugged" CD). People are gonna have their faves.

But yes, weaker than 'Now.'

'Help Somebody' earned 3 stars on the IPod and that was the only track. Every other album (excluding Unplugged) has at least three rated songs and every other album has at least one 5 star rated song. So yeah, this one is weak.

I agree Now isn't weak (none of his albums are). That album has some of my most beloved songs.. "Temporary Nite", "Symptom Unknown", and "W/As My Girl". But it doesn't hold up as an album in comparison to BLACKsummersnight, imo.

"Now" has grown on me, but it's definitely his weakest album. I must say that it actually gets more unsatisfying as it continues (save for "This Womans' Work"). Through giving the album time, though, the only songs that are *still* auto. skippers are "Silently", "Sympton Unknown" and "Now/At The Party" (which is probably his weakest instrumental entry). Everything else spans good to great, but not superior.

Maxwell went in a different direction on "Now", and I respect that, but he also dropped a lot of the sonic depth that made his first two albums so appealing to me. Also, the songs simply aren't as *stunning*..."BLACKsummers'night" fixed, at the very least, the latter problem and is a body of work that stands completely apart from the rest of his collection. I take it for what it is, and "it" is at least better than "Now".

Well when I get a taste for Maxwell 'BLACKsummer's Night' will not be the album I listen to first.

"Embrya" gets that honor.

Hopefully you like the 2nd or 3rd installments better. (For anyone who doesn't know, BSN is the first part of a trilogy).

I agree. I was underwhelmed too after 8 years of anticipation. It seems to be missing a "groove" which was very much present on Urban Hang and Embrya. I'm not so sure why this one feels like such a dud. I wasn't impressed and more so, disappointed. Even when "Pretty Wings" first leaked, I wasn't impressed. Now it's grown on me, but it took a long time and quite a few listens. sad
Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

My girl just bought this project for me and I'm actually impressed by it. I prefer Urban Hang Suite but I think I like this one better than all of his other CDs. The project holds together well for me.

"Watch Maxwell on Ellen Thursday, September 17th"

Don't miss Maxwell when he performs his #1 single “Pretty Wings” Thursday, September 17th on Ellen (check local listings for time). He’ll also chat with Ellen about his comeback and his acclaimed new album BLACKsummers’night.

One of the top ten best-selling albums of 2009 and picked as one of their early front-runners for Album of the Year at the Grammys, the LA Times declared that Maxwell's ‘BLACKsummers'night’ “hits a span of emotions without telegraphing them… a seductive, yet devastatingly heartbreaking record. Look for it on year-end lists, and look for it in this field.”

Maxwell is evolving as an artist. I was underwhelmed at first too, but now I love the new cd! It's cohesive, it has a great "live" vibe to it and the vocals are sexy as hell. I play it all the time!
