When Graffiti Bridge first came out I was in the car with my dad and popped the tape in.
He listened patiently for the whole song, then turned to me with a very thoughtful expression on his face and said "That is quite possible the worst song I've ever heard in my life" lol

My dad likes Prince (or used to like, until I started listening to him excessively), and now he says he just doesn't like it when he does too much of the so-called "Nigga-rap" wall

He says that there is some good rap out there, but what he did on Emancipation and afterwards is a bit too cheesy for him.

How come I listen to the promo live verision of Face Down so often lately and turn up the volume really loud, so the whole house starts shaking? I have no idea.

my parents were extremely easy-going about the music I had blaring out of my room in high school.
2 Live Crew, Slayer, Appetite for Destruction, Minor Threat, tons of Prince back then. smile

The only time I remember mom saying anything was about 'Message In a Bottle' (police) of all songs.
She was concerned about the suicide lyric in that one. I always appreciated that, mom hug biggrin

I am a parent, so you people better watch what you play around me.

In all seriousness, I hate rap and hip-hop and I hate it when my daughter tries to corrupt me by making me listen to it in the car. I've found the best thing to do is say, "Wow, I love that song!"

Instant click.

My mom hated when Beck came out with "Loser".
She was like WTF kinda song is this? confused

And not a lot of songs phased her. She loved Prince also.
Especially the dirty songs. doh!
