Updated: TLC's First U.S. Concert in 7 Years, Photos

August 25

TLC, the record-breaking, four-time R&B Grammy winners who were a mainstay on the Billboard charts in the 1990s, is set to play a show on U.S. soil for the first time in seven years – as part of a benefit concert hosted by Justin Timberlake.

Playing the "Justin Timberlake and Friends" concert, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, the two remaining members of TLC – Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes was killed in a 2002 car accident – will play Las Vegas's Mandalay Bay Events Center on Oct. 17.

Along with Timberlake and TLC, country sweetheart Taylor Swift and vocalists Alicia Keys and Ciara have also been added to the ticket. Tickets go on sale Saturday.

The benefit concert highlights a weeklong golf tournament to be hosted by Timberlake in Sin City Oct. 11-18 – the 2009 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Timberlake, 28, is in the second year of a five-year partnership with Shriners to host the golf tournament and benefit concert.

They played a few dates in Japan earlier this year and T-Boz (via Facebook) said the shows went well. I guess we'll see.

A few weeks ago,one of our local radio stations reported (erroneously?) that TLC was gonna reunite for a new album, with a new member,Lil Kim,to replace Left-Eye eek

I dismissed it as a silly rumor, but has anyone heard anything else about this?

Maybe, but none of them chicks were strong as individual singers or performers. What made them special was the three of them as a unit. I know they prolly chasing a check but it will seem too awkward. It would be different if they were moving forward as a twosome cuz Lisa left the group as opposed to knowing she's dead. shrug Besides, they looked a hot damn mess on the BET Awards a few years ago. confused

If this is a charity concert, I imagine they are not getting paid (I could be naive and this might be a big paycheck for them).

“Give it up for the one and only, legendary T-L-C!” said Justin Timberlake as he introduced Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, the two remaining members of the R&B trio, as they performed at the second annual Justin Timberlake & Friends concert at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Saturday (Oct. 17). The show, benefiting Shriners Hospitals for Children, also featured sets from Alicia Keys, Ciara, Snoop Dogg, Taylor Swift, Jay Sean, and Timbaland. (Source: Rap-up)

I don't see any problem with them wanting to do some
shows. They had a lot of fans. Performing is just something
in your blood if it's something you've enjoyed doing
your whole life. I know no one will probably accept a new
TLC album without Left Eye but let's be honest there were
some songs where she didn't contribute. There are certatin
groups out there that continue to carry on the group's legacy
even after a member passes. If these two want to carry on who
are we to say that they shouldn't.

I wish they would reform and release new music. It's not like they are shoving Lisa aside for someone else, they'd really have no other choice.

Just don't perform under the name TLC. They said they'd never do that. They should have a new name as a duo, and just go with that. I still miss TLC on the radio w/ new songs, I miss Lisa Lopes and her squeaky little voice.

I don't like all this judgement for something they have absolutely no control over.

I think it's just over using "TLC". They can control whether to call themselves something else or not, especially if any contract they had has expired, and they owe no other music to the record company. IIRC, they owed an album, and the record company wanted to release a greatest hits. TLC said "No!" and completed the 3D album, then the GH was released after. I say all that to say, they are able to strong arm their way into what they wish to do. Personally, I'm glad they're performing and doing what they love. I just think "TLC" should be laid to rest. Let T-Boz and Chili do their own thing as something fresh and new, while still honoring the past that got them here.
