Your not going to convince anyone outside of country music fans that Garth is a better singer. He could never take his voice up and down so many octaves as P does on "SOLO"

It would really come off as yodeling if he tried but I don't think Garth as the vocal ablity to pull it off.

"can think of that has had the amount of impact he has while being a great artist at the same time is Garth Brooks. And yes I'm serious. "

I will give it up to Garth. To what he did in country music was incredible but he is only a better singer if you enjoy boderline yoderling.

Garth's got more flexibility in his voice than Prince does, IMO. And if Garth's yodeling, then Prince is borderline whining. razz

There are lost of artists that are musically heads and shoulders above Prince.
There are lots of much better singers and composers than Prince.
There are more prolific artists than Prince.
Prince, however, is a good combination of all of the above elements rolled into a pop package.

And in some century you will give us a list of these artist because at this point none of the naysayers has come up with anyone.

I wonder why that is?

Kanye West is the "Prince" of this generation with the ego and the hustle of Prince, the musical quirkiness, and the attitude.

NOOOOO! Kanye is a horrific example and shouldn't be taken seriously for saying "Me and Justin Timberlake are like the Prince and Michael of today". F*CK Kanye West! He said that when he was having that ridiculous showdown with 50 Cent. As far as musical skill, nowhere close. Besides, Kanye has been pretty terrible since College Dropout. Sonically he has improved, but musically he is not all that he's made out to be. Kanye has completely allowed himself t believe he is great. He's good, but his first album gave him a false self appreciation. If he was so damn good to begin, how come his "Big Brother" didn't even want to give him a RAPPING recording contract? Exactly. Kanye has lost all credibility in my eyes with his evident decrease in quality, in such a short amount of time, as well as with his non-music "antics". He's a diva, and he's not even that dope to be feeling himself at such a capacity. This isn't a knock on Kanye as much as it means to be a defense for Prince. Kanye is in a lane of his own, but it isn't even comparable to Prince's. Prince is to Kanye West as Excalibur is to a steak knife. *End Game*

With the tirade out of the way, artist(s) with potential include: Alicia Keys. She seems to take the high road with her music. She is largely influenced by the man himself, but she's the most talented artist of this decade. She plays, she lives, she creates music. She doesn't just "make songs". She genuinely appears connected to her craft. She hasn't taken a wrong turn yet. At her current rate, she isn't on pace with him, but keeping quantity low and quality high should keep her active for well over 10 years. If I had to select an "heir to his throne" she would be the one. If I had to name another artist whose writing I am interested in, I'd say Adele. She and Alicia Keys make my first song look like garbage. (It wasn't all that.) "Hometown Glory" has a way of stirring your soul. I don't hear that in "newer" artists. Her debut album was released when she was 19, so she can still work her way up to legendary status.

These two are not on par, but I would like to see them 20-30 years strong making great music. My only wish is not to get annihilated after this post, because at least I gave some hopefuls. Don't take it as me saying they are going to surpass him, because I AM a Prince stan. I think no one will ever exceed his greatness. Not to be confused with someone that thinks "he can do no wrong", but I do feel his body of work is nothing short of phenomenal. As a songwriter, I strive to almost write a song half as beautiful as "Adore". I won't pass him musically, but I work diligently on my written works to come as close as possible. It would be nice if I could nominate younger "artists", but they seem to be dying out. Truthfully speaking, we may never be fortunate enough to see that artist. *End Game*

hmmm

I'm going to take this question to mean; "what newer artists can compare to Prince in terms of skill, artistry, proficiency, and relevance".

I would say that Ryan Adams is a good candidate. He puts out albums with a frenzy that rivals Prince, he's talented, and has a cult-like following (ahem).

Otherwise, I can't think of anyone else off the top of my head.

I don't disagree with what you are saying but the specific question is are there any newer artists who are on Prince's level. You didn't state who the newer artists are in your post, while there are a couple in here who have, that may be why people are coming at you like they are.

If there are any P fans who don't think that there are any on his level, why would that be such a bad thing? It's only an opinion, not something that's going to become a law based on that opinion. lol And like you said, you are on a PRINCE FANSITE, so why wouldn't you expect that? Why even treat that like it's a bad thing on a PRINCE FANSITE, no matter what forum you are in on this fansite. That's so snobby right there and it's not a good look. People like Blacknight are snobby they have a bug up their ass that P has fans who appreciate his work.
The shock that you would come to a fan site and not find too many people that think there are other artist working above P’s level.

When it comes time to defend or explain themselves they don’t and they get mad when the fans don’t agree.
Unfortunatly, the level of intelligence on this board is falling to a new low as you got too many haters who can’t even justify why they are haters and for those that do have legitmate reasons to be disappointed (Lotusflower website) members. They don’t do anythiny constructive to resolve that problem but have time to come to this board and bitch about it.

First - nobody asked about someone ABOVE Prince's level.

Second - No one has a bug up their ass that people like Prince's work either. But to those "Prince can do no wrong fans"...if you say you don't like his current output you get nailed with hate. Those are the haters. Not liking something is not hate.

Third - How are fans supposed to resolve an issue (website) where they got taken to the cleaners. What can they do about it realistically?

Fourth - as a rule people explain themselves fine. But that's not enough for some people who want to beat a dead horse. Ironically a lot of these same people who feel that Prince is hated on seem to hate all over other artists, multiple times, in the same thread. And I mean hate! Not even the music, but the people.

Okay - so one of the (relatively mainstream...cause that is what we are talking - right?) artists I think has the potential to be on Princes level is Imogen Heap. Level for me being interesting music and skill set. Plus she is creating her own sound at an early age. She likely won't be the performer he is, but that's fine by me as that is all I think Prince has left (hoping he proves me wrong). John Mayer shows potential too. His stuff has been rock solid, appealing to many different crowds over a few albums. I got to see him live and he puts on a great show even without splits and stuff.
It is true - Prince is Prince. Talking about a level all depends on where you as a listener put the bar to begin with.
I can appreciate and enjoy music so far from these artists as much as I did Prince when he started, only time will tell if they can hang on as long.
Also keep in mind the industry has changed. It would be tough for someone with Princes skill set to even make it today like he did. The dawning of MTV along with radio that played good pop helped (why MJ also blew up the way he did). Warner Brothers grew him as an artist in the beginning. This stuff is all a thing of the past for now so it's hard to know what kind of attention span people will really have even when artists release good music without a forum for the stuff. If Kanye West is an example of "good music" we are in trouble.
on that note...Hate away.....
lol

agreed.
I recall seeing the Controversy shows and Prince was like Jordan working with the team. He really wasn't as flashy as he is known for, he tended to just walk around the stage, not dancing so much and that was JUST as riveting as when he got known for big productions, on some levels more so... Now he's like Jordan without a team.

I am not even going to waste my time responding to most of your points because these things are being discussed and proved daily on this board.

I will address this one point.

"Third - How are fans supposed to resolve an issue (website) where they got taken to the cleaners. What can they do about it realistically? "

You have the option of disputing the charge with your credit card or bank. After all you did not receive the merchandise you were promised.

In addtion, perhaps people can contact the Better Business Bureau sometimes they can help get your money back or if a business get enough complaints they may actually get on the stick and start doing things right.

At any rate reporting the website would give other people an idea of what is going on and stop people from joining.
