"streetwalker"
i was born with the wrong sign, in the wrong house, with the wrong ascendancy |
I'm not listening to anything. I just won't be able to bear it right now. But the one song that just keeps going over in my head is 'We've Got Blue Skies'. That song made me ache while he was alive so I can only imagine how it would make me feel if I listened to it now. Actually I'll put together the list of songs that touched me the most
|
The entire Off the Wall and Thriller albums always bring a smile to my face. Hell everything from 1979-1991 was just incredible. I almost broke down on the subway listening to the radio on my walkman with this MJ mix they were playing. I'm going to finish listening to Off the Wall. I Can't Help It is the next song. Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

Man, everything on "Thriller" was just out of this world. I'm not sure anyone ever did pop better than that album.

I was about to say the same thing. Anything from 1979-1988 was cool for me. My all-time favorite MJ cut is "PYT: Pretty Young Thang". I just remember singing that song in several talent shows when I was a young lad. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara |
These are in my top lastfm favorites. I cannot believe this man is gone..all my life damn near worshipping him. All the albums....years of books and research, money spent on this one man's work..and still more to go. Funny how Janet kind of interpolated this tune on "Can't Be Good" and "What's Your Name" last year. The Jacksons albums are what I have been listening to. I was blasting the Get It Together album loud in the car. Had all the people lookin at me in the suburbs I didnt care f* that they better get hip. Thanks for hitting me up yesterday too When we say that the purpose of life is to find God, surely that desire to find God is an escape from life -Conciouscontact

God Bless the family. |
When I got home yesterday, I immediately put on side one of 'Off The Wall' vinyl, and blasted it.
|
The whole Off The Wall album... I'm hot and I don't care who knows it...I got a job to do. |
i have always liked 'man in the mirror', and 'i just can't stop loving you' in particular.

For many non-HipHop Black musicians in their late 20's through the mid-30's there were 2 main people who influenced them when they were young: Prince (for his musicianship) and MJ (for his showmanship). The first song I ever wrote entitled "They Bother Me" was inspired by MJ's vocal style. It was recorded on one of those foot-long rectangular tape recorders that so many of us had back then, the ones with the big buttons and the handle on the front. I've got pictures of myself singing Billie Jean into a broom handle in the kitchen of the home I lived in until I was 7. I still have the Thriller and Off The Wall albums in my living room today, complete with the pencil outlines of MJ I did on the album jackets.

Klyph said: For many non-HipHop Black musicians in their late 20's through the mid-30's there were 2 main people who influenced them when they were young: Prince (for his musicianship) and MJ (for his showmanship).
I'm sad today and not necessarily because he died. I'm sad that for many MJ was just a Black man that looked freakishly like a White woman. For many he is just an alleged pedophile. For others he's just that guy who had those videos on MTV. But for me he was an inspiration to a young kid who loved music, an adult who can pinpoint the moments in his life where his songs made an impact, and a wanna-be musician who never would have written his first song without him. So you want a MJ playlist? I'll give you one. 1) MY LIFE [Edited 6/26/09 7:15am] When we say that the purpose of life is to find God, surely that desire to find God is an escape from life -Conciouscontact

Man in the Mirror is my absolute favorite, love the gospel style 2nd halve of the song and the lyrics , although a bit cliche, are very uplifting also.

Thriller - that entire album - love it. It was released when I was 12 or 13 and made me an instant fan. I was a fan of him first before I was a Prince fan. It brings back memories of being a young teen, house parties and innocence being slowly peeled away, lol.

Happy Ben Those were the the first singles of MJ that we had when I was growing up. And I used to think how sad those songs were. But I loved them. Used to know them by heart. That and the Christmas songs-- Give Love on Christmas Day and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. We used to sing them when we go caroling in the neighborhood. Thanks for the memories Michael. RIP. Yeah, to this day there are only 2 artists' Christmas albums I listen to during the Holidays: The Temptations and The Jackson 5. |

Most of his musical output was pretty decent up to and including the new singles on the History disc. After that it became pretty poor considering he takes plenty of time with top producers and songwriters between albums and has no excuses not to emerge with quality product.

OK, here's something I have ALWAYS wanted to know: The beginning of the long version of "The way you make me feel" video has what I always considered to be a straight-up Minneapolis/Prince sound to it. The first 3 minutes you can hear it in the background and ESPECIALLY from the 2:40 to 3:00 minute mark it is full throttle prince sounding! ![]() |

Thanks for hitting me up yesterday too You welcome man. We will definately keep in touch. Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. It's all so sudden, just cant believe whats happenned. I will always love the man, my favorite will have to be the whole Invincible album, even though its highly underated it just has a fresh sound to it. Please check my website out at www.jacksonplanet.net I think what has happened is an act of God as MJ has never owed anything to us, and he proved to the world time and time again of his geniusness (a word i think?LOL) this time GOd was like i'm openening up heavens doors for you. Step inside.

I don't think I've ever posted on an MJ thread on this site. However, I feel compelled to post today. I wasn't a big fan, but I loved most of his hits and could watch his videos, early performances and concerts through the Bad tour any time. Wow, the magnitude of this has this finally hit me. I think I was still in shock and disbelief yesterday. However, this morning I put on my MJ playlist to listen to him as I work because I wouldn't feel right listening to anyone else today, and tears just started streaming down my face.

If Im honest, while MJs music makes me nostalgic, I didnt really love most of it or listen to it much. Somehow, little of his solo stuff stood up to time for me apart from Off the Wall. Now J5? I can bump some of that to this day, particularly Got to Be There and The Love You Save. In any case, MJ was a talent. |
I am still in shock. Michael had such a profound effect on the music industry as he really was known worldwide for his great God-given talent.
|
I'm not a huge MJ fan but I do have most of his music from 1979-2001. I was a relatively late convert when I bought History , mostly for the hits, circa 1997 at the age of 17. I think the new music on History may be the most accurate portrait of who he really was. I certainly think that was the first and possibly only time that you got a bit of a peak behind the curtain at him. I'm not saying this as an insult but his previous albums were so commercial and I think he was trying to make them as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. History wasn't like that and for that reason it remains my favourite album of his. |
....june 25th can be remembered as the day back in 1977 when prince signed with W.B....but now it is also the day M.J. passed away..

"Live" in concert he became an absolute joke, all pompous, masturbatory theatrics and lip synching. The O2 Arena residency would have been a total trainwreck. Michael Jackson was the best live. His albums were nothing but perfection. Great music presented with impeccable taste. Nothing half-assed about his output. I am not a fan of the man's music, rock n roll is my game, but greatness has to be recognized. the music lives on:
Michael Jackson may be gone, but his music is definitely living on. A quick look at iTunes' and Amazon's bestseller lists reveal a virtual run on the King of Pop's albums. On the current iTunes Top Ten Albums chart, he's taken over seven spots, starting with the 2005 five-disc retrospective The Essential Michael Jackson.
Rounding out the list? The 25th-anniversary edition of his 1982 blockbuster Thriller, 2008 hits package Number Ones, his 1979 solo breakthrough Off the Wall, 2004 box set Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Collection, 1987's Bad and 1991's Dangerous. On iTunes' Singles chart, the Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" is still No. 1, but MJ singles "Man in the Mirror," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Thriller," "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Smooth Criminal" are scattered throughout the top 10. On Amazon, he's even more dominant: The Top 10 bestselling albums are currently all Jackson. |
I don't believe I still don't own the "Off the Wall" album. I like everything I've heard on it, especially the title track which might be my favorite MJ song. Close second is "In the Closet". Great chorus. All time if you include the Jacksons is "Can You Feel It". Again, I don't even have an album with that song. Michael is definately being appreciated for his music right now. |

I am not a fan of the man's music, rock n roll is my game, but greatness has to be recognized. There was only one and just like Elvis and John Lennon before him, there was no one like him before and there will never be another like him. His was not a soul that comes around once in a lifetime. His was one that comes around once. Period. He was one of the last of his kind. McCartney is the sole survivor of the greats that actually changed the world with art. I don't think the world will see an entertainer of Micheal's caliber again. "McCartney is the sole survivor of the greats that actually changed the world with art. I don't think the world will see an entertainer of Micheal's caliber again." With all due respect to MJ memory, let's not get abzurd, we still have Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Led Zep, The Stones, Prince the list goes on... RIP MJ Maybe Dylan in influence, but in terms of artistic class and perfection, McCartney is the last man standing. None of the others mentioned come close to the worlwide phenomena that was Micheal Jackson. Or that is Paul McCartney. Though we are all fans, Prince definitely does not belong in the company of those select few. |

Game recognizes game and Mike was a first class, top notch performer, no question about it. But whatever flavor of Kool Aid you're sipping on that led to the last comment, you need to avoid like the plague. It would be informative to sit down and speak to McCartney, Dylan, Clapton, Page, and Jagger about Prince's influence and impact on the pop/rock music (both recording and performance) landscape. I guarantee you that their thoughts are in the complete opposite direction. There is good reason that he can still sell out 21 concerts at a single venue like the O2. Not that Mike couldn't but I'd like to see any of the others mentioned try it. Good luck with that. |

Here is my playlist of memories: Push me Away Blame it on the Boogie Get on the Floor... No doubt. Ever since I heard the news, my mind has been stuck on the 'Jacksons' songs/albums. As much as I loved seeing him deliver solo, Off the Wall is just supreme, pinnacle R&B. Bad is only underrated because of what it followed. Invincible was really really good, but sadly lost under the weight....but it's the work with his brothers that impacted me the most. I took my entire collection to work today and listened all day long. These are additions from my book. That's What You Get for Being Polite (just sub in MJ for "Jack". period) Good Times Dreamer Everybody Time Waits For No One and Wait (Jackie's underrated cut...but when Mike comes in near the end in background, that song is the highlight of Victory to me) But it's the inside jacket photos from Destiny and The Jacksons that stick with me. As much as he needed to break free to let his artistry out, I think he was healthiest with his brothers beside and behind him. peace in sadness [Edited 6/26/09 18:16pm] *************************************************

I have been remembering a track that I used to hear on the radio in L.A. all the time in 1987. It was a remix of the Way You Make Me Feel... My fave songs were Beat it and Billie Jean, but the entire Thriller album brings me good memories. It was the first album I bought (I was 8 back then). The last album I listened to was ´Dangerous´. That's as close as he'll come to MJ. - Hmm. I disagree. I think Prince will start to be remembered when he dies. If Prince gets to live as long as Ray Charles, he will be receiving those Life Achievement Awards and several tributes. He is already receiving now. For me, the only difference between Prince and people like Dylan, Brown, Hendrix, etc, is that Prince arrived too late to the game. Like Eric Leeds said, popular music was already defined in 78. But in terms of pure talent and genius - when it comes to popular music - Prince is much more than Purple Rain, and influenced pop music, R&B a lot. [Edited 6/26/09 18:31pm] Peace

My neighborhood has a few block parties during the summer and I guess one was planned for tonight as hundreds of folks were out and the dj was bumping. Given the news I guess, he was playing all MJ. We decided to hang out for a bit and ended up dancing up a sweat! Off the top of my head I know he played PYT, Wanna Be Startin Something, Rock with You, Dancing Machine, and Baby Be Mine. People clapped and cheered at the start and end of almost all of the songs. It was a nice and Id say a fitting celebration. |

This makes it more tragic to me...
Michael Jackson spent his final night alive in his favorite spot on Earth: the stage.
At Staples Center Wednesday night, the performer did a full run-through of his planned comeback concert. He and his company -- dancers, musicians, singers, aerial performers, choreographers and costumers -- planned to fly to England early next week for final dress rehearsals at London's O2 Arena, the site of the pop superstar's 50-night sold-out run. "He was dancing, training, working every day with our choreographer Travis [Payne]," Ortega said. "Michael has always been slight. That was his fighting weight. He was getting rest time, coming in and working with the band, guiding the singers, working on orchestrations. He was enthusiastically involved in every creative aspect of this production." http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-jackson-rehearsal27-2009jun27,0,4699249.story |

Then I put on "PYT", "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'",and "Baby Be Mine" from 'Thriller', also on vinyl. I danced my ass off. Remember, I'm not known as a Michael fan, but these songs above I've always dug. Plus, back in the '80s, my boy Rog was TOTALLY Michael, and I was totally Prince. He dressed in Red and Black... me in Purple & Black. He even looked a bit like Michael (Off The Wall/Thriller era), and had every dance move down. I looked a bit like Prince, and we used 2 battle at house parties... u & i r kindred spirits... ive always been about prince, even when everyone else tripped over mj it is sad tho but remember micheal was an entertainer- prince is a musician as well. He'd throw on 'Off The Wall' or 'Thriller', do his routine, and I'd jack the turntable, and throw on '1999', and sometimes 'Purple Rain', and do my thing. THOSE were the days. RIP Michael. . Okay, I don't remember who said that Prince is really only known for Purple Rain and his "weird behavior." I'm sorry, but have any of Jackson's albums outsold "Thriller"? I don't think so. So, in non-michael jackson fans' eyes, jackson is only known for that record. Now, let's talk about this weird behavior business. Does/Has Prince own(ed) a freakin' monkey???? don't think so. Does prince let children come over and let them sleep in his bed?? Don't think so. MJ fans can say all day that he didn't commit any sexual crimes, to which I would say, uh, "Why did he pay that family $22 million???? to avoid going to court and looking like a guilty man(?)? If he had done what MANY of us know he did with one of my children, I wouldn't have taken hush money. I would have made sure he spent his last days in prison, being treated the same way he treated children. |

Yes there is. Some of it was already released on one of the more recent boxset and you can listen to many of those tracks on youtube as fans have uploaded them there. His unreleased outpuf isn't necessarily of the same quality as his released, but I think it's mostly because they wanted to focus more on the tracks they'd pick for the albums anyway.

Oh My God. I still can't wrap my head around it. There are WAY too many MJ songs for me too choose from to decide the "favorites", but at the moment I can't stop listening to Man In The Mirror, Got To Be There and Gone To Soon..... and coincidently, I can't stop cryin when I hear them |
Prince should have agreedto doing Bad with MJ. That would have been epic! Love you Mike RIP to a legend. You will live forever! |
vainandy said: We all know that if Prince died, there is a lot of old unreleased music that could be released for years but does Michael Jackson have any? I'd love to see some old jams released that were made by either Michael solo or with his brothers from around the "Destiny" through the "Thriller" eras.
most of MJ's outtakes have been released officially on box sets or compilations, and out of the tracks that have been put out, none of them are up to the same standard as the rest of the albums, in that both songwise they aren't as good, and production wise most of them are demos rather than completely finished songs (whereas most prince outtakes are completed as much as any other prince track) they could collate a bunch of them onto one or two discs or a box set, but it would probably never happen as critics would then say that material wasn't a patch on the rest, which is why it's been bundled up with other compilations there are unnoficial bootleg compilations with various outtakes, just like there are prince bootlegs, and also live bootlegs too. i imagine the p2p places are full of that stuff right now if you have a look at the playlist on the first page of this thread i've included pretty much all the outtakes in circulation from off the wall onwards, in pretty much chronological order. you will know the album tracks, so you can tell thee non album tracks, as the collabs from other peoples albums have the name of the other artist All the latest Prince worldwide news and reviews in one easy to find place www.thedawnexperience.co.uk

Not everyone thinks he was some massive icon, he was a pop singer and dancer at the end of the day and not the pope. No actually at the end of the day, the pope is only, and I repeat only a "human being" too, with his own faults, just like Michael Jackson was, let's not forget that. [Edited 6/27/09 7:08am] I use the pope only as a cultural icon my main point is the WHOLE world is not crying about his death, a lot of people don't even care. He is a celebrity at the end of the day to most people and that's all. Think we all lose sight of what's important, and celebrity is not one of them I hope he rests in peace but keep it real and play the records, he will always be there. |

I don't think he tried to stick it to Prince. I think that MJ admired Prince. I don't know what happened, all I know is that MJ will be missed by everyone and I wonder what killed him. No one knows why MJ did what he did on the day he chose to do it on or if he even had control over what happened to him. His family doesn't even know what happen. They don't know who was with Michael when this situation occurred. It is so important to keep your family close especially when you are successful. This guy went into cardiac arrest minutes after a Demerol injection. Demerol overdose causes respiratory arrest initially. You chose to be a Prince fan because you love his music and hopefully that is why you remain a Prince fan. MJ is one of the greatest musicians born just like Prince. I like Prince more because he played an instrument and he has a style no one can replicate. |

thriller was a great album, but MJ dropped the ball by taking so long to release his follow up, which at the time was a particularly long time as normally artists would release an album a year back then. so prince released 1999, purple rain, around the world in a day, parade and sign o the times by the time the follow up to thriller came out, and bad wasn't a patch on it's predecessor. in the meantime MJ had many problems and issues and pretty much went off the rails

I'm still in total shock; but I feel I owe a lot to Michael, because he was the one who got me into music. Period. He helped me find my own favorite genres of music as opposed to listening to what my parents listened to. I'm 17 right now, but I'll never forget the impact "Beat It" had the first time I heard it. As a result, "Beat It," "Billie Jean," "Rock With You," and "Black Or White(the music video for which premiered on the day I was born)" shaped my pre-teenage years, and Accumulating his other albums and listening to what they contained taught me in my early teens (13/14) not to judge people, but to know them for who they really are. It was only a couple of years ago when I learned about this fella Prince, and, well, that was a whole different thing because I grew to appreciate musicianship more as I do now; but I feel bad saying over the past few years admitting that I'd jumped off of the MJ train because he didn't play all the instruments or produce everything on his own. Oddly enough, on Wednesday night of this past week I played some of "Off The Wall," and went, "hey, I forgot this guy's really got it, doesn't he!?"

There's enough negative news in the media to last a lifetime as it is. I decided to turn the channel, when some of them started bringing up all the negative stuff. His body isn't even in the ground yet, and their feasting on the BS already like hungry vultures. I've been watching VH1 and BETJ as they are playing MJ videos all day. Brings back so many good memories. I haven't seen the "Bad" video in a while, as well as many others, and just watching MJ perform with all that energy, and watch his fantastic dance moves, brought a smile to my face. He was truly an icon. [Edited 6/27/09 16:07pm] Education, the greatest weapon

There could not be a Prince if it was not for Michael Jackson. Everyone who was Black and lived in the 70's wanted to be a member of the Jackson 5. They were the coolest thing going for Black kids. For millions of Black kids growing up at that time they emulated the Jackson's singing, dancing, and fashion.

True. On that same token Michael wouldn't have been Michael without Jermaine. Originally, Jermaine led the singing group at the behest of their father, who at first felt that Michael was too young. It was Jermaine who convinced him otherwise because HE was the first to see potential greatness in his little brother and cultivated him to that effect. It was J who practically raised MJ from a pup in all facets of life and music giving him the confidence 2 accomplish all that he did. Thank God for the entire Jackson family. Peace! |

it's sad that a once promising artist went off the rails like MJ did. in the end, his last recorded music was never released and he never got to perform a full show in 12 years. the live side of his work was never fully realised, so no-one ever got to see him as an adult perform a full set singing his own songs for every hit single, he had a bizarre story, starting off as fun with a pet monkey, a zoo, elephant man bones and hyperbaric chamber, and ending with bankruptcy, drug abuse and child abuse. no other artist with so many hits has as many scandals, so with big artists the scandals are usually forgotten about as the music plays a bigger part of history. it's a shame that he didn't put more into his work to make people remember him more for the music than the scandal many prince fans started off listening to michael jackson, but as his releases were few and far between over the last 30 years, prince flooded his fans with new albums and live shows, and his material was of a more adult nature, rather than the childlike image that michael tried to portray. as kids growing up want to shake off the child and grow towards the adult, they will reach for more adult orientated music like princes (or rap and rnb music today), so it's almost like prince came along and snapped up a chunk of fans who waited too long for a new michael jackson record, and once they listened to prince and found out more about him, they become hooked on prince and forget about michael. when jackson finally drops a new release, it's usually been more dissapointing than the previous album, and with a number of great prince albums released during that period it shows up the lesser tracks on the jackson albums, so whilst the singles stand out as being great, the other tracks seemed very much second rate by comparison i always considered michael to be much closer to madonna than prince, in that she relied on others to write, record and produce tracks for her, whilst prince would just do everything himself and in his own studio. madonna, prince and michael were almost as popular as each other around 1985, but 25 years later, who would have thought madonna would have been the most succesful? had michael avoided the bad moves such as moonwalker, captain eo and ghosts, and stuck to the music instead of the bizarre, perhaps he could have been the most succesful still, and followed a similar career path to madonna the past few months i've recently went through my fairly comprehensive collection of jackson material, viewing concert and tv footage, and compiling the playlist posted earlier. in listening to everything i could really hear the music change from the greatness in off the wall and thriller and becoming more dissapointing as it went on, but with real gems that stood out on later albums, standing out moreso as they were so good, but the other tracks were so dissapointing. i think if he had retired early after history and dissapeared out of public life it would have made a more fitting end to his career. it's just sad how it all ended so badly i never expected him to appear at the o2 shows, certainly not all of them, i was just waiting for something to be announced as an excuse for the shows to be cancelled. i never thought he was fit enough to put on the type of show that randy phillips was suggesting, so when the story first broke i thought it was another sham story like turning up at the court room in pyjamas, i never thought the curtain would come down like this i hear AEG are facing huge losses of millions as a result of this, and whilst a price can't be put on anyones life, perhaps it will serve as a message to randy phillips and AEG that they took one step too far in the way they treated the fans in the way they handled the ticket sales and cancelations (i suppose now i can mention that they only originally sold half the number of tickets that the o2 could hold, knowing they could comfortably seat far more, but they wanted so much to claim a sell out and hype everything up), and by pushing michael into something he obviously wasn't comfortable in doing, and ultimately contributed to his death i put together the tracklist on the front page just two weeks ago, and it seems to serve as the perfect tribute to the most important part of his life to his fans, which is the music of his adult life. i didn't expect much more to be added to the list, but i didn't think it would become the final tracklist to his life he lived his life in the tabloids, and ended his life in the tabloids. i don't think anyone will ever know the real michael jackson and when the groove is dead and gone... A true voice of wisdom. Thank you very much. It looks like Prince will be proven to be prophetic when he said that no one would ever break his 21 nights O2 record unles he does it. |

Earth Song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8muMo0fw_M&feature=related I did not like the Earth Song because it was sad and it blamed God for all of the problems in the earth. MJ pretty much called GOD a liar and uncaring. I hear you SummerRain. For me, MJ stepped away from "fluff" and addressed a very important topic. Towards the end when things are being restored is the part that got to me. Like Job got asked by the Almighty..."Grid up your loins and answer me. Where where you when...". MJ's character got an answer too. I mean I could be "reading" too much into this video. "Marriage is a fine institution, but I'm not ready for an institution."

Put it this way. There was music before Michael Jackson and there was music after Michael Jackson. He changed the art-form. Just like what Marlon Brando did for acting and Richard Pryor did for stand-up, Michael Jackson did for music and pop culture. He is incomparable to anyone and his impact is immeasurable. Not to mention the impact of his philanthropy. A true hero that graced this earth. Case closed. RIP to a legend. You will live forever! |

that was a rerecorded version, and jagger did it at live aid with tina turner, but the original version was recorded with freddy mercury in 1983. MJ and freddy worked on state of shock, there's more to life than this, and victory. all the tracks were later rerecorded. there's more to life than this was on freddies mr bad guy album, state of shock was on the jacksons victory album. the song victory is unreleased there are two versions of there's more to life with MJ and FM, one is a duet thats similar to the released FM version and the other is FM on piano and MJ on vox, that's the version i choose above SOS and TMTLTT were to be released on a FM boxset in 2002 that compiled his solo work, but they were pulled at last minute, probably due to rights with MJ. the pulled tracks were later leaked on the internet that year i just noticed i put the MJ piano version on the playlist instead of the duet and i had for all time listed twice by mistake, so i've updated my playlist slightly (as i have this as a working playlist on the pc). it's over 10 hours of music so easy to make a mistake. i don't think i have any omissions bar the eddie murphy and simpsons stuff, and i didn't bother with the wiz. i didn't include stuff where he didn't have a lead vocal, the idea was to create an essential playlist thats 99% complete, i just used a bit of artistic license so it flowed well, so the collab stuff doesn't sound out of place. the other stuff that's omitted was half intended as a seperate playlist of completist tracks [Edited 6/28/09 2:36am] All the latest Prince worldwide news and reviews in one easy to find place www.thedawnexperience.co.uk

Motown has over 200 songs left in the vaults and around 7 years of footage MJJ Productions has a wealth of material. Books that were never released, albums that were either finished and put away or projects that were never completed concerts that have been shown... He recorded everything A secret library of over a hundred songs recorded by Michael Jackson could be released following his death.
One of the singer's biographers, Ian Halperin, claimed that the unheard songs had been made for his children. Mr Halperin, author of Unmasked, The Michael Jackson Story, said before his death: “He wants to leave them for his kids, a very personal legacy to them. I was told he will not let them come out now.” Jackson leaves three children: Prince, 12, Paris Katherine, 11, and Prince Michael II aged seven. It is rumoured, given the parlous financial situation of his estate, that any such recordings will not be kept private for long. It is understood that Jackson may have gone to the grave under debts of about $400 million (£240 million) – though some believe the true figure may be much higher. Sales of Michael Jackson’s music and memorabilia have already begun to soar. In America, the Thriller album is number one on iTunes, while his Number Ones album has now reached the top spot on the UK iTunes chart. Online retailers Amazon say that Jackson’s albums had taken 14 of the top 20 places on the Amazon.co.uk sales chart. The Amazon chart was topped by his first solo album, Off The Wall, which features tracks such as "Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough" and "She’s Out Of My Life". Already, Jackson’s death is beginning to producing a new industry. Outside the Los Angeles hospital where he was pronounced dead, a group of men appeared selling $10 T-shirts with a silhouette of Jackson and reading: “In loving memory of Michael Jackson.” Memorial T-shirts were also being sold at the Glastonbury music festival. On eBay, bidding grew on a number of Jackson memorabilia items. Limited edition records, musical instruments used by the star and even a movie contract with his signature were being sold for thousands of pounds. The Neverland ranch and Jackson’s final resting place, if made accessible to the public, could also become lucrative tourist attractions. Graceland, the mansion owned by Elvis Presley and where he was buried, has become a much-visited landmark. Opening its doors to the paying members of the public is thought to have made the trust that operates Graceland in the region of $100 million. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article6584011.ece [Edited 6/28/09 3:00am] All the latest Prince worldwide news and reviews in one easy to find place www.thedawnexperience.co.uk

i've long compared MJ to elvis for a number of reasons, and it seems on his death that it makes the comparison even closer, both dying at a reasonably early age after long spells of drug abuse and trying to reclaim past glories, and both were on the verge of bankruptcy at the point of death. whilst elvis made a lot of money, he similarly blew it on gracelands and all sorts of spending sprees. he was also warned that his spending was out of control. ironically elvis made more money after his death than whilst alive, partly due to turning gracelands into the museum, and partly due to merchandising and licensing, as well as gradual reissues. i think they should take another leaf out of elvis's book and open gracelands as a museum for the fans to visit, and whilst they've already went OTT in rereleasing the hits umpteen times, perhaps they can finally give the studio albums the expanded versions they deserve, such as 2 disc sets with the outtakes following the main album, and 12"s on the bonus disc. that was the original idea behind my playlist, but instead of sticking to 80 minute sets i thought i'd just stick it in order All the latest Prince worldwide news and reviews in one easy to find place www.thedawnexperience.co.uk

[b][Edited 6/27/09 19:33pm] journey, journey, journey, journey: in what ways did mj show his love for his fans??? by taking the younger ones to bed with him???? by waiting 14,000 years between the release of his albums??? by calling himself "the king of pop"? (what an arrogant thing to do, btw) prince puts out albums like stephen king puts out novels. i know some of you are thinking "quantity does not equal quality," but I have a counter statement for you: mj waited 4-5 years between each album (on average) to get people pumped up for the music. he did this in an attempt to top his top-seller. when he didn't, he showed disappointment, saying how he couldn't explain why his fans wouldn't/couldn't get into "Bad," "Dangerous," etc. etc. Now, if you believe prince mistreats his fans, it's probably prince doesn't put out records that radio picks up on. my question is, "what's so awful about that?" i posted this somewhere else, but here we go again: ARTISTS PRODUCE WORKS OF ART TO PLEASE THEMSELVES FIRST, AND THEN FANS WHO BELIEVE (TRULY BELIEVE) IN THE MUSIC/LYRICS WILL FOLLOW. you don't like prince does, do something to top him. stop being a music critic and start being a MUSICIAN. But in terms of pure talent and genius - when it comes to popular music - Prince is much more than Purple Rain, and influenced pop music, R&B a lot. it's sad that a once promising artist went off the rails like MJ did. in the end, his last recorded music was never released and he never got to perform a full show in 12 years. the live side of his work was never fully realised, so no-one ever got to see him as an adult perform a full set singing his own songs for every hit single, he had a bizarre story, starting off as fun with a pet monkey, a zoo, elephant man bones and hyperbaric chamber, and ending with bankruptcy, drug abuse and child abuse. no other artist with so many hits has as many scandals, so with big artists the scandals are usually forgotten about as the music plays a bigger part of history. it's a shame that he didn't put more into his work to make people remember him more for the music than the scandal many prince fans started off listening to michael jackson, but as his releases were few and far between over the last 30 years, prince flooded his fans with new albums and live shows, and his material was of a more adult nature, rather than the childlike image that michael tried to portray. as kids growing up want to shake off the child and grow towards the adult, they will reach for more adult orientated music like princes (or rap and rnb music today), so it's almost like prince came along and snapped up a chunk of fans who waited too long for a new michael jackson record, and once they listened to prince and found out more about him, they become hooked on prince and forget about michael. when jackson finally drops a new release, it's usually been more dissapointing than the previous album, and with a number of great prince albums released during that period it shows up the lesser tracks on the jackson albums, so whilst the singles stand out as being great, the other tracks seemed very much second rate by comparison i always considered michael to be much closer to madonna than prince, in that she relied on others to write, record and produce tracks for her, whilst prince would just do everything himself and in his own studio. madonna, prince and michael were almost as popular as each other around 1985, but 25 years later, who would have thought madonna would have been the most succesful? had michael avoided the bad moves such as moonwalker, captain eo and ghosts, and stuck to the music instead of the bizarre, perhaps he could have been the most succesful still, and followed a similar career path to madonna the past few months i've recently went through my fairly comprehensive collection of jackson material, viewing concert and tv footage, and compiling the playlist posted earlier. in listening to everything i could really hear the music change from the greatness in off the wall and thriller and becoming more dissapointing as it went on, but with real gems that stood out on later albums, standing out moreso as they were so good, but the other tracks were so dissapointing. i think if he had retired early after history and dissapeared out of public life it would have made a more fitting end to his career. it's just sad how it all ended so badly i never expected him to appear at the o2 shows, certainly not all of them, i was just waiting for something to be announced as an excuse for the shows to be cancelled. i never thought he was fit enough to put on the type of show that randy phillips was suggesting, so when the story first broke i thought it was another sham story like turning up at the court room in pyjamas, i never thought the curtain would come down like this i hear AEG are facing huge losses of millions as a result of this, and whilst a price can't be put on anyones life, perhaps it will serve as a message to randy phillips and AEG that they took one step too far in the way they treated the fans in the way they handled the ticket sales and cancelations (i suppose now i can mention that they only originally sold half the number of tickets that the o2 could hold, knowing they could comfortably seat far more, but they wanted so much to claim a sell out and hype everything up), and by pushing michael into something he obviously wasn't comfortable in doing, and ultimately contributed to his death i put together the tracklist on the front page just two weeks ago, and it seems to serve as the perfect tribute to the most important part of his life to his fans, which is the music of his adult life. i didn't expect much more to be added to the list, but i didn't think it would become the final tracklist to his life he lived his life in the tabloids, and ended his life in the tabloids. i don't think anyone will ever know the real michael jackson and when the groove is dead and gone... Yes, that's a great post. [Edited 6/28/09 13:59pm] Wake up children, dance the dance electric... there isn't much time.... who screamed? Was it U...? |
I agree that MJ cannot be compared to Prince since he is not a singer songwriter and musician. He is more comparable to Madonna in that most of the songs he did were written by others or he had minimal input, whereas we know P is behind all aspects of his music.

I watched "Captain Eo" today. I was alone when I watched it and I still got embarrassed. There is entertainment. There is art. At times you can have art that entertains and entertainment that occasionally prompts some thought. Michael Jackson was nothing but entertainment. Musical genius, (musical anything) doesn't even enter the conversation. He sang, he danced, he elevated the music video to silly levels. Song and dance. Nothing high-brow. I don't get what all the fuss is about. Musically that guy wasn't about anything. he was good at many things that made his records desirable, but I don't think music was one of them. Most of it dated extrememly poorly, to boot. Wow. |

You may feel that way but others will disagree, I do Michael was a musical genius. Sure, he didn't write and produce all his songs, but it's deeper than that. Not every performer does what Prince does. Does that make them less talented. Does that mean they shouldn't be less loved by the public? No If you think Michael was just an entertainer, fine, but I think he was more than that. I put him in the same category as James Brown, Stevie, Jackie Wilson and more of my favorites. Michael introduced alot of people to music, he reached alot of people. That speaks volumes to me Project L.O.V.E |

Not everyone thinks he was some massive icon, he was a pop singer and dancer at the end of the day and not the pope. he may have not been the pope...but he was bigger than the pope and known by more people than the pope. Don't fool yourself his freakiness will never outweigh his legacy. |

[Edited 6/26/09 12:35pm] [Edited 6/26/09 12:37pm] Not only is Prince one of the greatest musicians ever born, Prince will be revered because has never been marked by scandal. MJ is being remembered for his music and his videos but in the same sentences, the media cannot seem to stop talking about his child molestation charges. If it were not for the music channels and radio stations, MJ would be remembered for his alleged liken for male boys and his questionable sexuality. Prince alleged eccentricities had nothing to do with his personal life but more with his ability to appeal to every person in the society and remain true to himself. Prince was not perfect, but who is? He did endure some episodic rumors about his life but those rumors did not overwhelm him and those rumors quickly dissipated as fast as they evolved. Prince will be remembered as a great musician. I cannot imagine and refuse to imagine how it would be for anyone who genuinely loves Prince if he died prematurely. God forbid anything happens to P soon. On that note he has not and will never have the impact MJ made in the world. |
it's tragic that an artist with his talent didn't release an album in 8 years then passes away |
Time heals all wounds, but the loss of Michael Jackson is still so devastating to me. I was home when hearing the news, and I felt as if someone has kicked me in my chest. I fell to the floor. My heart is very heavy. My eyes are blood shot from crying off and on for the past few days. I am crying as I make this post.

Stranger in Moscow is the sound of loneliness and fear. I'm telling ya, Disc II of History is an awesome album. Aside from a couple of misfires like Little Susie and Childhood, it's classic stuff.

I think my two favorite MJ songs are "Keep The Faith" and "Just Good Friends". When either of these start playing in the car they really pep me up. "Keep the Faith" is very inspiring to me. |

Right - plus I never bought this "Prince treats his fans badly" bullshit. What has Jackson done to appreciate fans anymore than Prince? Because Prince doesnt let his fans steal from him, he is treating them badly? Oh, please, it's so much more than that. Don't you remember when his "people" removed the video of a baby dancing to his song from youtube? Yeah, that kid and his mother were STEALING from Prince! The whole stance against youtube (and all video sites out there) means he's basically killing any chance of future generations being exposed to him and his work, while denying his fans the chance to relive and appreciate his golden moments. He shouldn't have become a huge public singer if he was this ridiculously possessive. There's also the time he covered Radiohead and still wouldn't let audio of it on youtube, even though it wasn't his song. Foo Fighters covered Darling Nikki, Prince went off at them...then covered Best of You. Darren Hayes told of how he covered a Prince song for one of his concerts once that was being filmed for a DVD release. Prince's people made Darren destroy all evidence of the footage. I mean, where does the destroying all evidence of an iconic career end? |
I am not sure whether anyone has thought about this or not in this thread cos I havent really scrolled through it, but, IMO, Michael Jackson will only b remembered as an excellent POP PERFORMER, nothing more, nothing less!! He wont b remembered as a PROLIFIC SONGWRITER AND MUSICIAN like, for example, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, etc.!!!!

No other singer songwriter past or present has had this much love bestowed on them. He's more special than any of those people you mentioned. End of. |

[Edited 6/29/09 7:45am] He composed songs on the piano. A piano is an instrument that requires a musician to play it. Concerning his songwriting, Songs like Billie Jean, Man in the Mirror, ect., Will outlast any song from his contemporaries. A year ago from today his songs were still being played in mainstream radio, while others were 'nostalgia'. A year from now, they will still be played. Yes these others include Prince and Madonna. |

There are so many stories and so little time. And maybe that's the way God intended it, so those who've touched us can continue to do so... RIPMJ
You got teased for being a J5 fan in 74, everybody loved Dancing Machine? Kids will be kids, and it was the deep south. Most white folks didn't get it until the 80's. A lot of the ribbing came in the mid and latter 70's, up to '83. Then it was cool, and I was respected for having the foresight in recognizing such great talent... How ironic. |
Just last weekend I had spent hours on youtube and dailymotion watching old MJ/J5 videos. And I'm not talking that 80's stuff, no sir! I mean the mid-70's; big fro-wearin', nitro-dancin' performances during the transition period, when Mike's voice was changin' and the mainstream wasn't payin' close attention. The shows that made me lie to my mom, sayin' I was sick so I could stay home from school and wouldn't miss it (we didn't have VCRs, much less tivo), but then was amazingly well when she got home and ready to go to the wrecka stow and buy the new album kinda performances… I don’t know who performed better in those days, me or them. Still, I wouldn’t change a thing. I am who I am today because of the inspiration and motivation Michael’s excellence gave me at a formative time in my life. So many stories… |

I growed up watching MJ grow up. His death reminds me greatly of Elvis P. death when I was a kid. I don't believe there were any fowl methods to his death, I think that Michael J. tried to comeback too hard too soon at 50 yrs old. I also believe stress took him down greatly, though he caused a lot of the stress involved in his life.

Over the weekend I seen and heard so much music that it is hard to say what my favorite is but something crossed my mine as I cried over the passing of MJ how we will never see him perform again and I am so proud of the reaction and affection shown to him to celebrate his music I look at Prince .org and how the Prince Family came together to talk about MJ and I am so proud of us as a whole and more than anything thing this is time for us as fans to do something for the man this site is mainly about because the tides could have been diffrent and it could be Prince that we are talking about how sad we would be if he passed away I am saying that on reflection to FANS UNTIE and all that has been done over the years lets show so suopport and LOVE while we have him here with us I am a fan since 1979 years in the making and I have loved every song and video I have seen over the years I learned about this web site back in 93 after a concert in Atlanta some flyers being passed around I am proud of the owner and it hurt me to see the Fans Unite thing take shape I don't know the Litagaion behind it all but I see it must have worked out but all I am saying is I am proud to be a long time fan and I am proud of the fan base at this web site for the LOVE shown to Micheal Jackson may he rest in peace and his music live on so if any song is on my play list for MJ I would say everything he gave the world his all in his music and his actions of helping feed the hungry and the least of these . Love God and Peace |
I've been listening to a lot of rare and extended MJ tracks these past few days. "Sunset Driver" is a darn good MJ jam! I'm also enjoying the extended version of "Bad". I wonder if in the years to come if we'll ever hear those 30 tracks that were recored during the "Bad" sessions ("Bad" is my favorite MJ album and era) That would be cool! |

Great stories keep posting them... One day, back in ‘86/’87, I tripped out my brother Norris, by telling him (with a straight face) that I was hooked on drugs; two drugs actually... And then, after a long pause, I told him the two drugs were called Michael Jackson and Prince. I wasn’t obsessed or possessed as much as I was moved and inspired anytime I heard, viewed, or read about these two amazing cats. And even though I had many other interests, I was still determined not to miss a thing as it all motivated me to strive for excellence in my essence and creativity. Of course I had my brother goin’ at first and we laugh about it to this day. But we also realized a commonality that brought us closer as friends, and would set the stage for many great performances of our own; even as recent as last week. So, folks, not all drugs are bad… BTW, on the 25th anniversary of the classic album “Purple Rain”, the world said goodbye to the one-and-only “Thriller.” Yes, so many stories to share… |

were long time fans, at least going back to thriller when the fanatisism started. when i got thriller i thought it was the best album ever made, although i only had a couple of adam and the ants albums to compare it to, as those were the only actual albums i had at the time. i think that's partly why MJ has such a big following, as people who don't follow music much, such as kids in third world countries, will have heard of him, so whilst many people will say he is the best, they haven't really heard enough music to give a true unbiased opinion. i mean probably 90% or more of his fans would never have heard petsounds, revolver, what's going on or the dark side of the moon for example. there's probably a high percentage of fans who listen/buy little but MJ it took me a long time to be able to buy a home due to all the money i spent on a certain short dude. i hate to think how much i spent on him, music, bootlegs, and concerts (not to mention travel and accomodation). i suppose getting in early on makes it easier as you just have bits and bobs to pick up as they get released, and maybe look back for a few bits you missed along the way, but getting in late on when you have 20 or 30 years to catch up is daunting. no wonder the internet is so popular with illegal downloading. obviously when i got into prince there was no internet, and when i bought purple rain it wasn't hard to buy the other albums and snap up the singles, then get into the related artists and just pick everything up as i went along speaking of fans, they had the 2 fans on GMTV today (uk breakfast tv) that were on the channel 4 documentary a few years ago, in which they flew all the way from england to LA based on a rumour that MJ was going to appear at an awards ceremony to hand out or receive an award, even though he wasn't listed as appearing, and they didn't have tickets to the ceremony, so they both spent about £4000 (which is probably about 10 million US dollars or 250 million australian dollars) to fly there short notice, get hotel rooms and hire a car, to go to LA on a wild goosechase to try and see MJ. of course he didn't turn up as he wasn't supposed to, so they then took a trip to neverland and of course they never saw him, and went home without coming within farting distance of anyone named jackson. during the documentary the fans were talking about themselves, and the guy, who was really young and spotty, worked for pizza hut and saved up all his wages and blew it all on this crazy trup. the girl, who was, and still is, really pretty, was training to be a lawyer, and i was thinking who on earth would want her as a lawyer after seeing her on tv acting so irrational and crazy. they also had other footage of fan parties and one guy who i think was german and was spending thousands on plastic surgery to look like MJ, oblivious to the fact that MJ was spending more thousands on plastic surgery not to look like MJ. they also had the MJ lookalike from the uk who was on GMTV last week (nijab or something was his name), who was in another interview in the press this weekend saying he wished he was MJ. hopefully they rebroadcast this, as it was the funniest thing i'd seen in years, a real spinal tap type laugh out loud show. presumably it had been edited like the bashir show to make them look like complete loonatics. i've met some crazy prince fans in my life, but none that compare to the MJ fans one thing that i thought strange was that the pizza hut guy had tickets for only 17 shows out of 50 and the girl had tickets for only 6 nights. i would have thought if they were real hardcore fans living in england they would have got tickets to all the shows, at £70 a pop thats £3500, which is a lot of money, but they blew more than that on a trip to LA. obviously all the shows would have been pretty much the same, but they were spread out over 6 months, instead of the 8 weeks that prince did his shows in. it got me wondering as to how many fans bought tickets for all the nights, or out of the biggest fans on the MJ sites, how many people bought 30-40+ tickets. of course it was hard to get tickets originally, but it was dead easy to get good tickets for any night during last weeks sale, so armed with a credit card and a £4k limit you could have snapped up tickets to every night. personally i bought tickets to all 21 main shows and 21 aftershows for prince at the o2, so 42 tickets cost approximately £1500 for 2 months (i spent £700 on train tickets alone going back and forth to scotland between shows, as i had to work!), and had he done more shows i would have bought tickets for every night, but then prince changed his show every night, and i was really going for the aftershows, as whilst i had a ticket for every night i didn't know if/when he would show up, the main show was just a bonus to seeing the aftershow, and i was front row at the aftershow every nite in my regular sweet spot in front of the guitar pedals. seeing MJ do an aftershow at the indigo2, stripped down without the dancers and just singing with a live band would have been something else. i'm surprised they didn't plan MJ afterparties with DJ at the indigo2 as they could have coined it in, especially with the suggestion that the gloved one might make a fleeting appearance so i wonder how many nights did people have tickets for? i didn't get any as i knew it wasn't sold out, and i had my serious doubts that he would appear, which unfortunately came true. it's really strange that i discussed all the same issues that are being pulled up by the press now, and it's unravelling before my eyes as being true, like some self fulfilling prophecy, and i only just made that tracklist, which i'm listening through at the moment and will do all day today and maybe tomorrow (as it's 10+ hours long), which is really weird as it's as if i was making the final MJ playlist to catalogue his career, and it's just as if i had somehow known he would never record again, and the playlist would never be amended with new tracks. the whole thing is very spooky. i spent the last few months watching and listening to a ton of live shows and videos, discussed it all, made the "ultimate" solo playlist and when i finished it, he finished himself All the latest Prince worldwide news and reviews in one easy to find place www.thedawnexperience.co.uk

He was ONLY a pop performer, he never played any instruments and his songwriting was good, but it never really reached hearts and souls and thought provoking and life altering!!!! [Edited 6/29/09 7:45am] He'll be rememberd as the greatest singer, perfomer, songwriter combo ever. The millions around the world expressing their grief shows his music had much effect on people. No other singer songwriter past or present has had this much love bestowed on them. He's more special than any of those people you mentioned. End of. Bravo to Desire2006 MJ is just a singer and performer nothing more or less. Show me MJ sitting at a piano and play?! Show me MJ just holding a gitarr?! He wrote beat it? come on... Peace to the human MJ. But no idolatry. MJ was pupet from the industries, that's very sad. And more sad is that so much people not even now recognized! Peace and respect to MJ. I try 2 look behind the curtain. That's all. I like the music, sure. It's not about downplay a great artist, it's about 2 say what it is and nothing else. A lot of people do exactly the opposite, they "upplay" MJ. And not becuz of the music, but becuz of the hipe done by the marketing and industries. MJ had not the oppertunity 2 escape from that (with this father, i think no one could). All the glitter and gold you starring at, is exactly that what finaly killed him. [Edited 6/30/09 6:24am] |
After listening to a lot of MJ on Sirius's tribute channel I'm definately thinking that the "Dangerous" album might be my favorite of his. All such great pop songs with memorable hooks and strong singing. I know "Heal the World" is a sappier version of "Man In the Mirror", but it just gets to me. Once I get my replacement MP3 player, I will definately be adding quite a lot of MJ (likely the whole "Dangerous" album plus a lot of the hits that I like). |

MJ's character got an answer too. I mean I could be "reading" too much into this video. Michael Jackson's videos were very deep and I never really paid any attention to it until this weekend unfortunately Dolphinking23 Dolphinking23 that's the beauty of any art or artist. Famous or not. Hard to know what to say – what to feel. I find myself wondering what might have happened on his tour … the number of dates in the UK that he had committed to was insane … I did have a feeling it was impossible … but I was so shocked to hear that he went so suddenly. Very sad. Of course I still think of him as a boy … he used to come and see us (Queen) play when we were on tour in the States, and he and Freddie became close friends … close enough to record a couple of tracks together at Michael’s house … tracks which have never seen the light of day. Michael was the boy star of the Jackson Five, and always the most screamed at. I remember in their show, they tried very hard to make all the brothers equal in the presentation, but it was abundantly obvious that all most of the girl fans really wanted to see was little Michael. It was Michael who heard our track “Another One Bites the Dust” when he came to see us on “The Game” tour … and told us we were mad if we didn’t release it as a single. Of course this was way before Michael’s monster solo career began … but he was already in search of that fusion between Funk and Rock, Black and White, and the Thriller album was the consummation of that quest. There are many similarities between it and our “Hot Space” album … but our timing was out, really. Michael got it right in every respect … including timing … the world was just ready for it … and of course he was in a sense seeking the same ground, but coming from the opposite direction. Amusingly, after Freddie and Michael has spent some time together recording, Freddie came back and played us the work in progress, and he remarked that Michael had come up with a great album title … BAD. A little later, Freddie smiled his wicked little conspiratorial smile, and said … “I have a perfect idea for our album title – you may love it or hate it … but think about it …. we can call it ….. wait for it …. GOOD”!!! I think the world is a more colourful place thanks to Michael’s work … he was a truly wonderful performer at his peak – and had a great team around him, including, of course, genius Quincy Jones. I think he qualifies as a great artist; he devoted his whole body and soul to his art. It’s as if, with all the changes he introduced to his body, his art actually became his body and his persona. Yes, I only hope he passed away in happiness, in great hopes and anticipation of his glorious comeback tour. RIP Michael. Bri. Beautiful. __________________________

One of the more obscure songs I have heard is called I am Love, one of the Jackson 5 last songs with Motown its about late 1974 after Dancing Machine, Jermaine does all the vocals and they all wear matching different coloured frilled blouses singing it. Has anyone heard it, its quite mature sounding. All my life, Marge I have been a obese man trapped in a fat mans body, Famous Homerism |
I changed my mind about Michael after I read the description of all ´Thriller´ songs on Wikipedia. I knew that Michael wrote ´Billie Jean´ and ´Beat it´ (great songs) but didn´t know he wrote other songs too ("The Girl is mine" came to him in the middle of the night and he imediatelly recorded the melody and arrangement ideas with his voice, it was all in his head). And he had some input on production too. Sometimes, he really knew what he wanted.

The first Jackson release I remember getting was either a three cassette J5 comp released in 89 on cassette or Original Motown Classics on Pair. This was in late 91. At that time, I (or should I say my father) already had tons of Jacksons material. On vinyl ABC, Third Album, Maybe Tomorrow, Goin' Back to Indiana, Thriller, Bad and on cassette Off the Wall. Also he had Marlon's Don't Go single, and Jermaine's, Jermaine (80), I like Your Style and Precious Moments and Janet's Rhythm Nation VHS. So you see how I became a Jacksons fan, it was natural. For me, it was a long journey and I'm still on it My first memory of Michael is from 1989 or 90, when I was about 2 or 3 watching Moonwalker. My mom, aunt, and cousins tell me all the time how they took me to Great America and Michael's music got played and I instantly started doing all the moves and a crowd started, but I can't remember. In my house we already had Off The Wall on vinyl Thriller on vinyl Bad on cassette 2300 Jackson Street on cassette (I still want to know who bought that...) and then the VHS tapes of Moonwalker and Making of Thriller But then starting 1992, I was getting gifts like tapes, books...I learned how to read by reading Magic and The Madness! I was in the third grade with a 9th grade reading level! My first I didn't get the Jacksons tapes until 1994 or 1995. I remember in 94 on a rainy day going to Top Hits (local mom and pop record store) to get Original Soul of MJ on vinyl. I try 2 look behind the curtain. That's all. I like the music, sure. It's not about downplaying a great artist, it's about 2 say what it is and nothing else. A lot of people do exactly the opposite, they "upplay" MJ. And not becuz of the music, but becuz of the hype done by the marketing and industries. I get what you're saying. My only gripe is with those people who dismiss MJ as "just a pop performer".They forget that he has written many of his biggest hits,he composes melodies,he creates the vocal harmonies and background vocals, etc. These things are all part of the production process.I never considered him to be some "puppet" in the studio, taking orders from a producer.I always got the feeling that he was heavily involved in the creation of his work. Can he play 26 instruments? Hell no,but he didn't need to.He was able to do what he specializes in and SUCCEED at it.That was enough for me and his millions of fans around the globe. |
