Marcus Miller B'Day Bash or Musician's Heaven

This year, Marcus Miller decided to do a birthday gig followed by a private party at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood Monday night.
Thanks to my good friend (triple-Grammy winning producer/mix engineer) David Isaac, I got to hang at both events.

Great first set which featured Lalah Hathaway doing People Make The World Go 'Round...

...and MM playing bass clarinet on When I Fall In Love.

One of the set's surprises was when he brought up Operatic tenor and vocal coach...

...Kenn Hicks

The Private Party segment was where things got really interesting.
At one point in the set, the band went into Moonlight Sonata (from the Silver Rain album)...

...and George Duke got called up to assist.

Knowing that I had to meet that mule in the morning, I was about to exit when Marcus said, "I see Herbie trying to hide in the back."
Then I pretty much resigned myself to the fact that it was going to be a long night.

How would you like to have...

...Herbie Hancock play a Jazzed up version of Happy Birthday to you followed by Cantaloupe Island?

A few shots of David Isaac with various musical luminaries:

...guitarist Dean Brown (and Dean's wife)

...Al Jarreau

...George Duke

...Herbie Hancock

...Lalah love Hathaway

...Lenny White

...Marvin "Smitty" Smith

And finally, the birthday boy himself...

...Marcus Miller

Some others in attendance (that I can remember) that I didn't get on camera.
Azar Lawrence
Keb Mo
Brian McKnight
Reggie Hudlin
Tim Carmen
Stanley Clarke

Fabulous night.
Thanks again Dave.
