What is Manchester's greatest ever band?

It's tough - I love many, many bands from this city - but i'm gonna go with

tunes, fashion, spirituality, wit, arrogance, they had the lot

So many to chose from.

Ernest L Sewell, IV
Confessions Of A Prince Realist. You might want to sit down for this.

Although there are a lot of great Manchester bands, there's nobody quite like The Smiths.

There's Joy In Expatriation.

Easy; Joy Division. Not even close. Morrisey total wanker. Except Meat is Murder. That good. Sorry Pook.

I'd have to opt for The Smiths...

For a comprehensive list of Manchester bands go to The Manchester & District Music Archive: http://www.mdmarchive.co....mePage.php

New Order and Stone Roses are fine bands indeed but there can only be one answer to this question:

Joy Division clearly cast a shadow over everyone else.

But New Order, The Smiths, Stone Roses and Gang Of Four are all among my favorite bands.

OK, I like To watch CRonaldo on the ball...you know skills are good.

but why is he such a diving cheat? is this not embarrassing? why do a player that good need feel the need to cheat? It's sad.

Mark E. Smith uh
he's class
a national treasure him

I liked the Smiths I also liked that they were not Joy Division, who I love dearly. It's good to see a band be conciseness different to such a "geographical" influence.

Happy Mondays...side 1 of "Pills and Thrills" is good.
I liked New Order...esp the video take of The Perfect Kiss
go large Hooky Bass monster.

That is my answer as well. The Fall are exactly what I want music to sound like.

Most economic fallacies derive from the tendency to assume that there is a fixed pie, that one party can gain only at the expense of another.

Gotta include The Fall, otherwise we would have to exclude Neworderjoydivision as they were a Salford/Macclesfield band.

I've never really checked this band.
Will do now.

The smiths are unbeatable

small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

well there output is prodigious

I really dig their cover of "Lost in Music"

the mid-period I like the most...pop songs
"Extricate" , "Shift Work" and "Code Selfish" may all be approachable albums, unlike some of the earlier efforts which can be a bit hard on the lugs.
