Gay Musical Icons

Looking at another thread gave me the idea for this topic. Who would you consider to be a gay musical icon. The person doesn't have to be gay, but be admired by the gay community.

Here's my list:
Diana Ross
Madonna
Barbara Streisand
Phyllis Hyman
Donna Summer
Chaka Khan
Janet Jackson
Elton John
George Michael
Prince
Lady Gaga

What makes these artists attractive to the gay community? Why can't they just be credited for good music and being great entertainers? Why the tag?

I haven't really heard them with this tag/context.

In the black community, they are BIG gay icons.

You can also add Millie Jackson to the list.

Not being from a black community, I didn't know that.

We dropped them years ago. Now they are more suitable for straight people. If you don't believe me, just turn on the radio these days and see how slow everything is. lol

To me, the ultimate gay icon is Kylie Minogue. Many of the other artists mentioned Elton John, Madonna, Janet, Prince and George Michael are almost equally popular among straight people.
I personally am not that big on Kylie's music, but she is so loved and admired in the gay community, but pretty much ignored by straight record buyers as least here in the U.S.
