Best CHIC-sound alikes songs? I'm so in love with Chic (I'm a fan for three years now). Since they have been that influential, I wonder if there are certain songs that are obviously influenced by CHIC or even sound alikes.

Queen - Another Bites the Dust - I remember reading in Chic: Everybody Dance: The Politics of Disco that many folks thought Chic had ripped them off! Haha yeah...

I like "Give It to Me" from Rick James, off the 'Street Sounds' release.

That right there is the blatant disregard, dismissal, disrespect most white-identified people have for music made by or inspired by black musicians. And it fucking pisses me off!!!

And it fucking pisses me off!!! but Brian Decon of Queen (the bass player and songwriter) never denied that he was inspired by Good Times. In fact they went into a more black direction but the album flopped. It was more Queen's mainly white rock audience that did not no anything about black musicians, namely CHIC.

[Edited 3/25/09 4:30am] yeah, I was reffering to the Hot Space album. It's not a good album imo anyway.

Interestingly enough I was listening to In the Glow of Love the other day and it reminded me of Chic. Don't know if it's exactly a sound alike but it sure makes me think of them. I only have a vinyl copy stored far from me so I wonder who the prodcution is by? for me personally it marks the beginning of the end, after Hot Space and The Works I started to loose interest and didn't continue buying their albums Hot Space is so so IMHO... if it hadn't been Queen but some newcomer group instead, maybe my reaction would have been different.. anyway, there are songs on it I really enjoy, but as an overall album it's to patchy and just doesen't work for me “Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.” Han Solo

I'd love to listen to those tunes now. Didn't know Vandross sang with Chic as well but definitely not surprised (makes me miss my vinyl and liner notes even more). Sometimes you'll hear a song and it's like listening to it with new ears. My statement wasn't directed at the members of Queen. I was referring to people who are deaf to something unless it comes from their own kind. "Good Times" was was released a full year before "Another One Bites The Dust" yet some people had the nerve to accuse CHIC of ripping Queen off. Just patrol the comments written on YouTube about songs covered by white artists that were originally written and/or performed by black artists. CHIC's "At Last I Am Free" is another prime example. Robert Wyatt covers it and some people naturally assume he wrote it because he is so brilliant. And when they're informed of the original artist...they say shit like "naw, that couldn't be a Chic song...they suck". [Edited 3/25/09 6:42am]

I know a classical guy who thinks black music is rubbish and simple and refers to Stevie Wonder as "the blind singer". Ignorant and pretentious!

Be sure and get Diana Ross's album "Diana" and Sister Sledge's "We Are Family" which were produced by Chic. The group Change also has a very Chic sound. And the song "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" by Indeep sounds Chic-ish. Andy has spoken dammitt.

That's one of my favorite Chic efforts, if not the favorite. The deluxe edition is "Have Fun Again (The Original Mix)"

I actually prefer Norma Jean and We Are Family over the Diana album.

But the basic things are: a heavy bassline that serves as the hook the chords are played by the piano and by a funk guitar Strings tight drums female vocals. The songs start and end with the chorus.

The structure of singing is imo their strongest trademark.
