Why learn to play an instrument? Because with time, dedication, sacrifice, integrity and a few like minded individuals, you might one day be able to produce live music like this...

...Zawinul Syndicate (Joe Zawinul's 75th birthday concert) You should be in a band that plays this well and grooves this hard at age 75. Even with the equipment problems, being the total pro, he didn't cave in. When I found these clips it reminded me of the feeling I had watching this band perform. Unfortunately, when I saw them they didn't have Sabine Kabongo who brings her own unique energy to the group. This is just one of a number of examples. tA Tribal Disorder

For me, playing an instrument can be frustrating, but when it all comes together, it is worth all the hassle - because it feels like magic is coming out of your fingers. The joy that comes from playing in a band and hearing all the different instruments and voices come together to create one overall sound can't be described. No wonder many bands over the years have said it is better than sex On the other hand, sometimes it is too much like magic, in that if you know how the trick is done, you lose some of the wonder and excitement to see other people do it - I expect it's a bit like being a magician at a Magic Circle gathering, damn hard to impress anyone! But yeah, getting lost in your own noodlings and losing yourself in them music is a feeling that you have to experience to understand. Why learn to play an instrument? Man, I wouldn't give it up for the world. I would go that far..... Well said rocknrolldave. I've played one instrument or other for the past 35 years and (acoustic guitar at present for 10 years) I couldn't imagine being without an instrument in my hands or one at hand. Dave's right, at times it can and has been frustrating but most thing value don't come easy come, it's the journey of discovery or creating something - your personal best. Be very careful how you treat people: You know where you've been but you don't where you're going. | |

I think people who can can make the audience FEEL them....that they are serious about thier music. When we say that the purpose of life is to find God, surely that desire to find God is an escape from life -Conciouscontact

A Musician's Brain Recognizes Sound That Carries Emotion. The study revealed two major differences between the musicians and the non-musicians. Musicians heard an emotion-packed, complex sound with an enhanced sensitivity, and they also were less distracted by simple sounds, according to the study. "What we found in this study is both an enhancement and an economy of resources varies as a function of the extent of musical experience. The more years the person has been playing an instrument, and the earlier the person began musical training, the larger the effect." http://abcnews.go.com/Tec...081&page=1 Thanks for posting the article. There have been quite a few studies extolling the direct and tangential benefits of learning how to play an instrument. tA Tribal Disorder
