Anyways what do you guys think about the lists??? What are some of your favorite songs from each year????

The songs listed were BIG. Hell, I had forgotten how big the Rude Boys were when they first came out.

I think Blaque's 808 was big for several reasons. The first being that the remix made it a pop hit. The album version was slow and boring, though. Besides, it had the Brass Monkey sample that made people love it.

What do you think of MoKenStef? They were horrible. The only saving grace of this song is that it sampled "Do Me Baby".

Interesting. As far as I'm concerned, the album version of "808" is one of the best songs R. Kelly has ever written for another artist. I couldn't care less about the remix. shrug

Oh, I can't even express my hatred for "He's Mine"! I did kind of like their second single "Sex in the Rain" (edited version: "In the Rain").

"Anniversary" was a victim of its release timing. It made its peak near Billboard's year-end cutoff date, so its impact was spread over two years. It finished as the #44 song of 1993 and the #80 song of 1994. An even bigger hit to suffer a similar fate was Whitney Houston's "I'm Your Baby Tonight" in 1990-91.

Really???? Its an okay song, but is quality wise its easily their worst single IMO.

(i think its also their worst charting single, i dont think it even hit top 40 pop/top 10 R&B)

my top 3 swv songs are:
-use your heart
-right here (human nature)
-you're always on my mind

It's better than all of the others AFAIC. Anyway, that 1997 list is wrong. You're right that "Can We" didn't make the R&B Top 10 at any point in '97, so it obviously isn't the #9 song of that entire year. Here's what I have:

1. In My Bed - Dru Hill
2. I'll Be Missing You - Puff Daddy
3. G.H.E.T.T.O.U.T. - Changing Faces
4. Can't Nobody Hold Me Down - Puff Daddy
5. You Make Me Wanna... - Usher
6. I Belong to You - Rome
7. I Believe I Can Fly - R. Kelly
8. Cupid - 112
9. On & On - Erykah Badu
10. Get It Together - 702
11. Never Make a Promise - Dru Hill
12. Don't Let Go (Love) - En Vogue
13. Return of the Mack - Mark Morrison
14. For You I Will - Monica
15. For You - Kenny Lattimore
16. Big Daddy - Heavy D
17. My Love Is the Shhh! - Somethin' 4 the People
18. Un-Break My Heart - Toni Braxton
19. Nobody - Keith Sweat
20. Mo' Money Mo' Problems - The Notorious B.I.G.

I'll check the rest later.

SoulAlive

speaking of 90s R&B songs....does anyone remember a song called "What You Deserve" by a duo known as Answered Questions? It's an uptempo song,BET used to show the video alot in 1990.Whenever I mention it to somebody, they never know what I'm talking about (lol). It wasn't a big hit.

I LOVE THAT SONG ALSO!!! I sometimes forget how much I liked that song. Timbaland and Missy were pretty cutting edge when they first came out.

I don't see how you could say that. Almost every single from their 2nd album could fall into that category. Their 2nd album, New Beginning, was OK, but didn't have any clear singles. All of the singles released from that project didn't do that well (in comparison to their 1st albums singles).

I know they were hits. "It's All About U" was also a hit, however they pale in comparison to "Can We" (imo).

Look how few songs on the charts that I liked in the 1990s. Please observe how much slow shit and shit hop are on those lists for those years. Also, observe how fast songs got fewer and fewer as the years went by. When I say music had gone to hell in the 1990s, I meant it.

Most of the music I listened to in the early to mid 1990s was underground house music that was mainly played in gay clubs until shit hop had completely taken over even in the gay clubs by the end of the decade. It just goes to show who knew how to party HARD in the 1990s (gay people) and who partied soft, slow, weak, and sissified (straight people). Y'all need y'all's asses beat. You mean to tell me y'all are gonna let a bunch of gay people party harder than y'all.

"youre the one" was a big hit and "use your heart" was also a hit.

I know they were hits. "It's All About U" was also a hit, however they pale in comparison to "Can We" (imo).

"can we" to me is the weakest SWV single, but hey to each his own.

What do you think about "Rain" or the original version of "Right Here"?

"Rain" is a real good song and is the best song on their 1997 mediocre Release Some Tension album. That song his a nice backdrop, smooth bassline and real good harmonies for the hook and the third verse. "When U Cry" is the 2nd best from that album. That album was loaded with too many rappers which brought the album down A LOT, but these two songs really stand out.

As for the original version of "Right Here", it fo sure ain't on the level of the Human Nature remix, but is still an average uptempo dance song.

Do you not like these songs?

He was in the same place that The Barkays, Cameo, Lakeside, and all the others were. It was the 1990s. Shit hop and artists that made nothing but slow music had taken over. Prince had no place on those charts.
Andy is a four letter word.

He had good chart positions, but in annual charts, the singles that did chart at one point or another -- IIRC, "Scandalous," "eye Hate U" and "Insatiable" among them -- did not sell or play enough to make it to the yearly top 20 lists.

Prince's last big year was 94. TMBGITW did well, but I don't think it cracked top 20 for the year end count downs.

There is not a single act in 1990 that is on the 1999 chart.

I think Mariah was the only act that charted every year in the 90s.
