I think that Etterlene wants her book to be the final say on the family. She wants it all to be whitewashed

they seem to have somewhat of a civil relationship with the father. in the vibe magazine there are pictures of him with one of his daughters he had with some other woman (think her name is Alice Debarge) and there is a picture of him along with Bobby Debarge and other members of switch. they look pretty darn happy to me.

As for the Mother she strikes me as the type whom never really disciplined her kids. and took there side when they were in the wrong.or made excuses for them. That is probably why they are in the shape they are in. Yeah Daddy Debarge did his dirt and had his ways. But deserves alot of the blame.

I think she didn't discipline them because the dad discplined them a little too much.

The pic of Robert Debarge Sr. with his daughther Althea (I think that is her name) in Vibe-she is the product of a relationship the dad had on the side while Etterlene was pregnant with the twins. He had 2 other kids out of that relationship.

So either way the parents didn't do their jobs playing the blame game is not what they need to be doing even in her book it wasn't the entire truth.

I don't see in writing a book like that if you don't lay everything bare. It's just not honest. And that whole family has been fucked up by bad parenting and too much church. I don't know why she kept having kids with the father if he was so abusive and awful. I don't get it at all.

I think Debarge is not as weird as the Jacksons. No one in Debarge has married their former sister in law, no one has had plastic surgery or been accused of molesting children, they don't cover their kids' faces in blankets or dangle them off hotel balconies.

That's because nobody sends the Debarge kids death threats

You don't have to, but it's true

Either way, both families have different levels of drama, and while I'm a fan of both families, I'd prefer The Jacksons

I agree, ArieLove,

Although I like the Jacksons, I still play DeBarge til this day! Can't say the same for the Jacksons. I will say the Jacksons are better entertainers than DeBarge.

To Scriptgirl, I respect your admiration for DeBarge smile Quite honestly, ever since the unsung special, I've been going back to my VHS tapes and watching the heck out of old performances and videos by El DeBarge,DeBarge and Chico DeBarge. You probably have the same performances:)

I pray that El really gets his ish together. It's one thing to have Bible Study and give your life to Christ in jail. It's another thing to actually do that once you get out. I find a few entertainers when in jail or may be facing jailtime find God, but going back to the same destructive lifestyle when they're out of trouble.

Yea I hope he gets out of jail with a new persona and just a more positive perspective because its hard to try to be different in the same negative environment but El has to figure that out on his own

Shut up and say it's not so, Scriptgirl!I have to hook you up with old DeBarge performances or at least try to put them on youtube. I have like four or five VHS tapes filled with DeBarge videos and performances from when DeBarge was on American Bandstand singing "Time Will Reveal" to when Chico was on Motown Live singing "Sexual" "Give You What You Want" and "Listen To Your Man". I even have a performance of DeBarge without Bunny, but including El, performing "Rhythm of The Night" and Switch's "I'll Call Your Name." smile

Like I said one of these days I have to put them on youtube.

I do have one BET interview with Chico that he did on Planet Groove w/Rachel. Do you remember that show? But that's it. Everything else is performances on Motown Live, Solid Gold, Soul Train(performing "Give You What You Want(For Sure)" and "The Game", Planet Groove and New York Tracks.

Basically, Chico was explaining that the reason why he was away from the music scene was that he was incarcerated for 5 years and 8 months(that I definitely remember smile , that girlfriend was his music when asked if he was married and why he looked up to Marvin Gaye. It was a good interview. And he performed several songs from "Long Time, No See" because that's when he had just came out with that album.

I'll try and upload it on youtube between today and Wednesday. At least when Chico was on Motown Live and Soul Train.
