MUSIC Sucks These Days

I'm 19 and this may seem weird, but i cannot stand listening to todays music, im forced to hear it in the car with my dad and step-mom. I usually just listen to Prince & MJ. But most of todays music is made by computers and i think they all sound a little similar to eachother. I was in the livingroom the other day and my step-mom turned on the TV and Lil-Wayne was on and he was showing his "Bling Bling" or w/e u wanna call it, and he was talking about sumone suckin on a lollipop and he had his pants down to his knees. WHERE in the HELL did Class go? I think sum of the best music was made in the 80's, and theres a few acts I like today, like Marroon 5,Alicia Keys,& Outkast.

DarkKnight,

You are right. Music sucks these days. I'm not much interested in what is out there. There are a few that I like, though: Nickelback, Enya, Enigma, Jennifer Hudson, David Cook, Evanescence.

I'm most definitely not into rap. The only ones there that I like are Will Smith and Eminem. That's it.

I hope that the music evolves into something that I would like again.
I've just recently rediscovered Prince and his music....some of the videos, too. I have sure missed out on a lot!!!

I completely agree. I'm an 80s fan. Even though a lot of 80s music was pretty awful too, I just loved the sound of 80s music in general.

The lolipop comment, lol yeah thats pretty lame. And I flipped on VH1 one day and saw this rap video about eating cookies from a jar or something and I was like, omg what is wrong with people

There are some really great artists out there that don't get radio play . Look for them

Great is so subjective. Some people think TI is GREAT. If that is great, I'd really hate to see CRAP. wink

Music does not suck these days. Something has to exist in order for it to suck and music hasn't existed for years. Shit hop killed it years ago and shit hop ain't music anyway. It's just a bunch of talking over a slow ass beat bullshit.

And where do you suggest we look for them? In a box which is underneath a ton of other boxes which is in the bottom of a closet in a submarine at the bottom of the ocean in a foreign country? Who the hell can go through all that trouble? There's a simple solution though. Take shit hop off the radio and put jams back on the radio. That's a much easier way to find music and the way it should be.

if you don't mind me asking, how young are your parents? I know adults like hip hop too, but most I know hate hip hop although they will go crazy for hannah montana or high school musical if they have kids who are into it

There isn't consistently good music like before, but Timbaland, Neptunes and Ne You write/put out good songs IMO even if they rip off what's been done before. Most of the good music right now is dance music from Europe and J-pop from Japan IMO, as well as trip hop if you want something current.

I find music through word of mouth and going to an independent record store that allows me to listen before I buy or even listen before I buy through an online vendor. I get emails from record labels (anyone can get them) on new music coming for the week. I read music reviews in newspapers and magazines. I look into related artists of artists I already like. It's not that hard

I already got Nikka. Love her like CRAZY.

I may give those other two albums a listen as well.

There is good muzik out there... but you're not going to find most of it if you depend on standard radio and videos alone. Word of mouth is my best source right now. Hell... when I want to know whats new and maybe worth lsitening to... I come here first. Seriouly.

Being on Myspace helps as well.. in that word of mouth part. A lot of people will be hip to something I havent heard any where else.

I don't like most R&B or rap thats played nowadays ( I loathe Lil' Wayne)... but I do like a few artist.

Visit my place on MySpace
Funk, Jazz, Rock n' Roll, Rhythm & Blues with a touch of Soul...
It's all about the muzik... that fonky azz Muzik

Hmm hmmm What's wrong with searching for new artists nobody knows yet? Pic up some magazines, look through myspace and try what you might like. I don't even look at the charts anymore.. except when Michael and Prince have singles out. smile
