Further proof that MTV has no relevance anymore(SHOW DETAILS) Todays awards show is their 25th Anniversary show, and yet, there has been no mention or very little of that in the press. WHY? they have nothing to show for it, they cant even capitalize on this, because they have no status anymore. Todays show will opened by Britney Spears who will NOT PERFORM, she will just make an appearance that is said to be "fun and interesting", Christina Aguilera will perform a new version of "genie in a bottle" that is to be on her Best of set, it is also the only nod to the "anniversary" of the show? Really, performing a song barely 9 years old is your "anniversary" celebration.

i think you mean 25th. and even at that, it's the 25th awards show, not 25 years since the first one. and they don't mention it because it's geared toward a youth culture and advertising the fact that it's been around for 25 years doesn't mean anything to the kids they're trying to get to watch this. Well they arent getting any audience that they are targeting, MTV awards show has had slumping ratings every year, though they are touting that last year was a 26% rise of an all time low the year before, what they fail to mention is that that rise was due to Britney Spears, the demographic of that 26% rise was 30+ years of age, and after her performance the ratings for the show declined 40% which put them lower than the year before. Which is why they begged her to open this year so they can "tout" a gain once again, but watch those ratings fall to shit the minute she leaves the stage. [Edited 9/7/08 15:28pm] The same can be said for the other music award shows as well. The Grammys, The BET awards, The SoulTrain and the AMA's ratings have all been in the toilet for the past few years. Why, I think the answer lies, in the type of music that is being produced as well as the artist that are making it. That's the reason why, these shows are so low in the ratings. I remember one could not wait to see who was going to perform, now it is more like..."When is the shit going to end. Dick Clark realized this a few years ago, when he moved the AMA's from Jan to Nov., in the hopes of not only having to compete with the other shows, but he figured that it was thankgiving and more people would be home. It did not do any good. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

It did not do any good. Exactly, i explained this in the Fashion Rocks event post, that show airs tuesday, but i got a chance to be in attendance, and though most of performances were good, there was no WOW there at all, and there is the issue, all these shows whatever they may be, always get the HYPE machine rolling weeks in advance, whether its a reunion, a duet, an appearance of some sort, they ROLL OUT the HYPE carpet weeks before, did they ever do that before? Does anyone remember the Hype machine before Michael Jacksons moonwalk? of course not. Now true, there wasnt the media you have now, back then, but the only way to build a rep in this business is to do a killer performance, not to hype yourself up and deliver with just OK, and thats what most do now. a-ha "foot of the mountain TOUR 2009" a-ha "Ending on a High Note Final TOUR 2010" going everywhere!

It did not do any good. I think another problem is that there are just too damn many of them on TV. They used to be an annual event because they were relatively rare. You had the Grammys, the Oscars, the Emmys, and that was it. Then the Golden Globes, the AMA's, the Tonys, etc. When MTV introduced the VMA's and even their movie awards, they were fresh alternatives to the stodgy standards. Now you've got what... the world music awards, the bet awards, the naacp image awards, blockbuster, people's choice, nickelodeon's kids choice, divas live, vh1 rock honors, rock n' roll hall of fame, vibe, fashion rocks, and about 8000 other ones that aren't rolling off the top of my head at the moment. There are just so many of them that NONE of them mean anything anymore.

Popularity of this thread kinda says it all about this "award" show.. Hopefully they will stop doing them soon... One can pray, anyway... When you treat people fairly, conduct yourself professionally, and act like an adult...bad things tend NOT to happen to you.
