Van Halen - 'Mean Street'.

Is this song by the boys simply anything less than BADASS!!! I mean, the whole sound of the song completely blew/blows away any rock song from any of the other rock bands of that particular era. It was FUNK-ROCK! Or was it ROCK-FUNK? And its easily miles ahead of the rock-funk of Zeppelin's 'Trampled Under Foot'. And never mind 'Eruption'. To me, this was/is EVH's best moments of guitar playing on record. Those opening notes at the beginning are incredible. And then the huge solo in the middle? Out of this world! It was probably the heaviest song that they ever did. Thank you EVH!

This is Van Halen at it's best IMO, nothing beats the Roth era for this band, I feel that Eddie never played the same after he left or was kicked out depending on whose story you believe.

The whole "Fair Warning" CD was great. Edward and Dave and the band to a lesser degree were at odds so Edward was pissed off a lot.

He used to record his solos at night with Donn Landee. The rumor was at this time Edward wanted to leave the band and he tried to join KISS.

I've read many times that he did his guitar stuff at night with Donn Landee - but KISS! I've never heard that one before.

I really miss Van Halen, the way they were. They did this last big tour with Dave and I just couldn't care anymore. Maybe it was Wolfgang doing Michael Anthony's job. So fucking petty of those Van halen brother dicks.

That whole Women and Children First/Fair Warning era i thought was the most interesting Van Halen ever got. I think the first VH album is overrated. Mean Street is a great song. The whole album rocks.

One of the best album openers ever. There's some great tunes on Fair Warning.

EVH has stated in interviews that Fair Warning was a very dark album. The "Push Comes to Shove" solo has been dissected on more than a few occasions in some of the guitar mags I've read. It's regarded as one of Eddie's best. EVH was on point throughout the whole album.

I'm inspired to dig out my copy of Fair Warning.

Though I was always slightly more keen on Women and Children First. Romeo Delight is my favorite VH song ever!
