Artists that you didnt like before, but somehow they won you over...

Im sure we all have someone that we didnt quite care for and then suddenly they did something and got you into them....

FOR ME

Alicia Keys- Im not into HYPE and it was all Hype even before anyone heard her first album, and i didnt like it all, still dont like the first record, but since album 2 i dig her.

Hilary Duff- Never disliked her but could not name a song by her, but then she did DIGNITY one of the best pop records of the decade

Pearl Jam- i wasnt into anyone of those bands in that time period, but Pearl Jam grew to be a good kick ass rock n roll band.

About a year ago a young friend of mine started recommending his mixtape stuff and I was actually very impressed. I think the success of his new album Tha Carter III is a testament to the fanbase he built with his mixtapes since Tha Carter II. I'm just one of many converts.

Though it was more of not knowing that not liking. A friend got me into him in the very late 90's during his "Whiskeytown" days, and now solo since 2000, he is clearly hands down the artist of the decade, clearly on output and quality and his "fuck you" attitude towards the charts and industry.

When I saw the video for No Such Thing, I thought he was just a Dave Matthews rip off.

Then I saw the Your Body is a Wonderland video, and I was impressed because it was a sexy song. And DMB didn't write sexy songs. Crash Into Me not withstanding.


Then when I heard Bigger than my Body, I was impressed with his guitar playing. But I didn't crossover to being a fan.

It wasn't til I heard him play Come Back to Bed, on I think The View that I became a fan. I was floored with his guitar playing!!!

Then the Trio album came out and I was absolutely stunned.

the Killers. liked them more and more with each single release (except that one with the video of the dancing skeletons).

Ashanti still sucks as a singer. Smart lady, though.

For me it was The Smiths. Didn't understand why people wanted to sing about such mopey stuff until I finally got the joke. Hilarious. And the music is very very tight and well-arranged.

i've never had anything against Beyoncè, but i was never into her music, until she dropped 'Irreplacable'.. that's a female anthem song lol.. i love the lyrics to that...

As a child I used to hate him. I could not get over his strangeness and never understood him music. Well, one day there was a rockumentary about him on MTV and I though I should watch it to learn something about him since he´s such a big star. To my surprise, I found out, that I like some of the songs. God his first album, loved it, got another one, loved it, and another one and another one... And here I am. Couple of years later, I was even flying to Minneapolis for his first celebration in 2001.Through his music, I got even to him as a person....

Hey she did a good pop album with DIGNITY (and tons on this forum agree) unlike Mariah and others who didnt do good Pop albums. What made DIGNITY good was the fact that it wasnt what todays mainstream likes, thats why it was good. And also a good record is a good record, Britney Spears first 3 albums werent good and her last 2 were, Christina Aguileras first album was crap and the last two werent. And age has nothing to do with it, why can Hilary a 21 year old make a mature record for people OLDER than her now, while Janet and Mariah who are 40 year olds make records aimed for teenagers? so whats the better thing to do? its that simple do a good record and its good do shit and its shit.

I tried to fight against modern R'n'B since 90% of it is still crap. But I always loved some of their producions, even when I didn't even know it was them.
Through Madonna I am now able to dig their pop stuff.

Miles Davis--I always knew he was great, I just didn't understand. The music seemed so simple, like nothing happened.

Tom Waits--like Dylan, his voice sounded like a joke. But hear the lyrics, the melodies, and it just sounds like Tom Waits singing a beautiful song.

Not that I disliked her before, I just didn't see what the big deal is. Her voice sounded too plain, esp comparing to her rivals @ the time,,,,,and I thought her music was abit too leaned on the "white-washed" side. Beside, she was the target of EVERY joker back when I was growing up,,,,,and ya'll know the reason why

Of course, it took abit of a growing up to do to finally dig her stuff. The REAL reason why she's so appealing to me is, you can't really label her,,,,any artist, esp BLACK artist who refuse to be stuffed in a box,,,worth the tip of my hat, TWICE!

The pop/rock artists of the 1980s. During that era, there was so much good funk being made that I could care less about pop/rock. After everything good on the R&B side died, then I went back and started exploring the pop/rock artists of the 1980s.
