That piece is sheer beauty.
He and Lyle Mays make such a great pair musically. I posted this on the other thread but here it is again. (scurries away to practice....) ... I must admit, while casual listening it escaped me at first. This has always been my favorite Metheny/ Mays composition---but I'd love to see the charts, though...What time signature is this tune in, 22/8, --followed by 12/8, then 8/8 ????? .... Those 2 are a perfect match for each other. I'll have to save the time signature analysis for this weekend. I'm detecting quite a few 11/8 sections. Others broken into 6/8, 5/8. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 [Edited 4/6/07 11:51am] "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. One of the things I've always loved about the Group is the highly structured written pieces that also have plenty of room for improvisation---like a small-big band, But I've always liked that mix of the Jazz and Classical aesthetic too, from Ellington and Mingus up to composers like Michel Colombier and Vince Mendoza..... ...
